Personaly, I use Auto Glym Engine Bay de-greaser. Fantastic stuff, Cover your electrics, Spray on, take a paint brush to the grease, and rinse off. Oh, and leave the engine running, Not only does it dry faster, But if you manage to spray your HT leads, you wont be able to start your car while they dry out.

Comes in a few forms. Can be brushed on, or sprayed on, I bought the spray, just spray it on and rub with a cloth, will see the grease and grime dissolve, then give it a final wipe down when fully dry.
Al get some before and afters tomorrow.

When I cleaned mine I used a combination of WD40 (for the plastic) and Jizer. Used an old rag and a toothbrush to clean it all. It did take all day so if you have no patience, it's not for you :)
TOTD: Secure a plastic bag around the alternator etc. so you don't spray/drip any crap in it.
I couldn't clean every single thing but I got most of the crap. Last weekend I took off my manifold cover, sanded and sprayed with some high temperature paint. That made it look tidier too.
