hi guys! now that im a week away from my test ive decided to start a progress blog on what im going to do on my car once i pass and have a bit more cash saved up. at the moment im selling my yamaha moped for insurance money. the ped should go for £1100, and the insurance is £649 as im going off a parents. so this leaves me with roughly £450 to play with.
so so far i havent done a lot, any of you guys that have read any of my earlier posts on the forum know that i have only really installed a basic sound system that suits my needs in sound quality so im leaving that how it is for now. heres a few pictures of the car as it stands...
The car
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v627/kinger8938/106.jpg
from the back
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v627/kinger8938/rear.jpg
the boot
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v627/kinger8938/soundsystem.jpg
and the debadging before and after shot!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v627/kinger8938/debadged.jpg
Ok so thats what ive done so far. the sound system consists all of Kenwood products. i have a head unit, 13cm front door coxials, the 6x9's, 600watt amp ans 1000 watt sub. for me this all sounds perfect and i have no need to change it as of yet. as you can see thanks to information given on this forum i also debadged the boot as i love the whole smooth look.
well ive had a look at some of your guys progress blogs and i absolutly love the smoothed bonnet, delocked book and colour coded bumper strips and handle look. so im thinking i would like to spend the ped sell money on gettin all that done first.
for another cheap mod i feel i will de-wiper the rear aswell as apparently the bits needed are cheap and it looks easy to do so ill give that a shot soon as my wiper blade snapped anyway before i brought the car :D thats my excuse!.
i would like to get an induction kit early on, but i know nothing about these. my only preference is sound and value for money so any ideas??
eventually i would like to get some black tinted angel eyes for the front and some darked coloured rear lights too, the next big spend after the body shop will probably be on lowering the car to a suitable, yet attractive level. then last but not least i would like some alloys! obviously the size will depend on how much shes lowered but im thinking 15-16". i really like the look of the kei force 10 alloys :P
well theres my plans, im obviously gunna post more pics as and when this all begins to progress!.
but for now if anyone here could give me ideas, cheap solutions etc that would be awesome!!
**Updated!
nothings actually changed but ive now decided to go with the raceland induction kit that alot of you have talked about on here. i must admit they look really nice under the hood and apparently there great value for money even with the slight modifications that are needed!
im now 7 days away from my test my bike is up for sale still so as soon as it goes, thats what im going to get :D:D:D cheers people ill keep you posted!!!!

oh yer thats the one i liked the look of :P i saw on someones progress blog a picture of it fitted it looked well nice! i pm's him to ask what he thought of it. so u both reckon this is the one to go for?
I have got a quiky mate but cant drive yet like you, and have never heard anything but good things about raceland products in general, especially these kits. Teamed with a green cotton filter. Do it mate.
Kinger
12-02-2007, 11:12 PM
i think i will :D not too bad on the price either :P thanks buddy! i think this will be the first bit i buy for the car then :D.
Thats a good thread mate, deffinatly taking steps in the right direction.
I like what you've done and like your plans.
Wheels and lowering next without a doubt mate.
Just put a enclosed on mine, you do need a longer hose just off the thorttle body and also a bit of trimming on the kit's housing manily for the bonnet catch is needed.
if ya car is 2000+ its easy
if its pre 2000 afew more mods are needed like grining off the old coil pack mount...
but its worth it, sounds ace, looks the dogs and helps gain a little power

thanks for the support mate. yer thats what im stuck between at the moment, shall i do the bodywork first or the lowering and wheels. id rather do the smoothing etc but im still un decided on that part!
James.G
12-02-2007, 11:28 PM
theres 3 of us not driving then ;)
i fitted mine and its pre 2000 wasnt too hard tho.
raceland are like a cheap make basically. all the same as supersprint ecosse just under a different label and cheeper...
love my induction kit was a good first mod.
cheers for the insurance info mate. ;)
Thats 3 of us yeah, and ive got to wait the longest! :'(

Lowering and wheels should be priority without a doubt dude.
Wheels and decking is my priority.
Kinger
12-02-2007, 11:39 PM
hmmm yer i suppose. how much does it roughly cost to lower it then? do i not have to buy the parts as well :S
well u guys will get there eventualli, it just takes time which sucks but worth it in the end, ive been learning since end of october !
James.G
12-02-2007, 11:44 PM
about £200 maybe abit more. you need the fornt springs.. www.kam-racing.com eiback sportlines is what you want no other shit. then i paid £100 for them to be fitted and get the torsion bar adjusted, although that was a very very cheep price...
look at around £250ish including springs (£85)
James.G
12-02-2007, 11:45 PM
kam also stock raceland products.
i cant recomend them enough, they are great guys.
Kinger
12-02-2007, 11:46 PM
fair enuf, thats not as bad as i originally thought it would be. so on a set of say 16" alloys wat would be a sensible lowering ammount??
Just found that Kam sell raceland induction kits with green filters for £86. Shweet!
http://www.kam-racing.com/product_info.php/products_id/275
Dont get 16's mate.
15's with 45 tyres, deffinatly the way forward.
I've been down both routes. :)
Kinger
12-02-2007, 11:56 PM
ah ok mate thx for the size advice, i love this forum i would make so many bad choices with out u lot lol
so is the green filter a good add on? what does it doo? sorri im really new lol
Im not into the induction stuff, im not the man to ask.
Im on my second Quiky though mate and know a fair bit about styling.
The do's and don'ts. :P

13-02-2007, 12:01 AM
ah kool your a good guy to talk to then! well i looked at ur progress file and basically your car is what i aim for! i love it dude its awesome! u should be chuffed with it
Kinger
16-02-2007, 02:06 PM
quick question dan, how much is your car lowered? do you experiance any rubbing at that height etc?
James.G
16-02-2007, 02:29 PM
hes down about 60mm and no rubbing.
then green filter is a good add on, the raceland filter is pretty shit. really small like. the green is larger and allows better air flow.
Kinger
16-02-2007, 02:40 PM
ah ok thats how low i'd go i think! it looks cool! cheers for the tip on the green filter, so would it be worth spending £86 to get the induction kit with the green filter do u reckon? cheers
James.G
16-02-2007, 03:16 PM
well yeah id say so.... because it will be £50-60 for in kit, then another £35 for the filter. so for £86 and no hassel its a good price...
Tuscan
17-02-2007, 01:40 AM
See your getting some good advice from these lot mate.
As Dan said, id make your 1st priority alloy wheels and then lowering the car.
Theres nothing worse than a 106 on standard suspension. They sit awfuly high!!
Im down 60mm aswell with 15" wheels. (195,45,15 tyres{lowest profile} )
I had 45mm springs before and it looked CRAP! was still reallly high up!
The only rubbing you will have, will be very slightly on the plastic inner wheel arch linings, when your on full lock.
But its no problem at all, as to be on full lock, your going about 3mph lol
Plus i hardly ever need to use full lock as i dont park like a goon n stuff
Kinger
17-02-2007, 07:54 PM
lol so to lower it 60mm, what exact springs should i get? do i need new shocks? links would be great! thx mate ;)
Tuscan
17-02-2007, 08:58 PM
When you lower your car more than about 40mm you need to replace the shocks.
If you don't, they will bleed out and fail within 6 months.
I have 60mm G-max springs and there pretty good. I used ot have p.i 45mm springs and they were cack!
Im running P.i shocks.
Other people dont recomend G-max as they recon they crack.
I think its more a case of chavs buying cheaper brands such as G-max and just kaning it over speed bumps and pot holes.
If G-Max had such a bad metal fatigue in their springs they wouldn't be able to sell them.
Eibach are recommended, but expect to pay more for them.
Kinger
17-02-2007, 09:06 PM
hmm interesting! how much am i looking to pay for a set of shocks then?
mat106
17-02-2007, 09:14 PM
Good plans, i am on g max springs and i find them alright, although they are 35mm they are for a 1.1 and ive gone and stuck a 1.6 in, but the height is good. For shocks i would stick to a good make and pay no more than £100 unless they are adjustable. Ive got standard shocks at this moment in time but i am on the lookout for some adjustables, maybe even coilovers. H and R seem good as that is what ive got on the project car and they are coilovers but the quality looks perfect. I personally don`t want a smooth bonnet as ive seem them crack if done wrong so i would spend the money on better suspension and tyres.
Kinger
17-02-2007, 09:27 PM
£100 quid :S all the ones i can see are like £250 + atleast, im new to all this im probably lookin at the wrong product. theres a g-max suspention kit here for £218 that will lower it 60mm. is that wat i need?
scot-ish
17-02-2007, 09:29 PM
remember if u get tht raceland porced kit, ur gunna need nother bit of pipe for it, as its designed for the 16v, an for the tu 8v, its needs a longer pipe to reach the airbox
mat106
17-02-2007, 09:34 PM
Ive seen kits go on ebay brand new for £185, the £100 was just for shorter shocks, i can get spax which don`t get good reports for £85 each and they are damping adjustable. If you are going for 60mm then expect some extra wear on the suspension parts and cv joints will wear out quicker. I will find some links for you, as different places are different costs.
http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/product_info.mhtml?id=2699
http://www.europerformance.co.uk/pages/products/product_info.mhtml?id=2997
The first ones are just uprated ones but different makes are loads different on price, avo`s do kits from between 5mm and 45mm and they are all £300, but some of the alternatives range from £150 to £300. Shop around and save a load of money. You could also buy a kit such as the bilstein one with shorter shocks, sell the springs and fit 60mm ones and not have too much trouble with shocks bottoming out as they are already shortened. I don`t know too much about the g max shocks but i suppose for the price they would be fine.
Tuscan
17-02-2007, 09:46 PM
Yeah the G-Max kits (Front springs, front shocks, rear shocks) go for under £200 on ebay.
I payed £122.45 for my pair of P.i shortedned shocks from this place,ad £51 for springs.
http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/
Cheap on prices.
The cheapest 60mm G-max kit is available ebay, But the cheapest G-max springs are on here also
http://www.motorsportworld.co.uk/
Altogether, delivered to my door, my suspension set up cost me
£174.20
A 60mm G-max kit would have cost me around £190 delivered but id have to pay to have the rear shocks fitted so labour goes up more, wich is why i jst got front shocks n springs.
I spent £46 on having shocks n springs fitted.
Total of £220.20
I then bought 60mm gmax springs for £50. Fitted by me and a friend.
Grand total of £270.20
So your looking at 200ish mate
Kinger
17-02-2007, 09:49 PM
yer where would i get the pipe for the kit??
yer thanks for the links, both those links arent 60mm kits tho? or am i wrong lol. id be willing to pay about £200, and it will cost about £100 to hav fitted i guess? this is more pricey than i thought lol thanks for help thus far!
Kinger
17-02-2007, 09:52 PM
that doesnt sound to bad Tuscan, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PEUGEOT-106-LOWERED-G-MAX-FULL-SUSPENSION-KIT_W0QQitemZ8031918619QQihZ019QQcategoryZ40192QQs sPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item803191 8619
thats the link to the onli set i could find at ebay, but it doesnt say how much it can be lowered by with the kit?

They can do a kit for 55mm, whether it will be a true 55mm drop or not i don`t know as a 1.6 will be heavier and its the same kit.
Kinger
17-02-2007, 10:12 PM
ah that looks good! is that then all i need to buy? then take it somewhere and ask them to do it? and whats the torsion bar? if i spelt that right ! cheers man ur all so helpful!!
James.G
18-02-2007, 01:12 AM
torsion bar is the french rear suspension to put in in simple terms. you dont have springs, just 2 bars that go acorss the rear of the car.
and the 'longer pipe' that you need have to reach across from the induction kit goes to the TB not the airbox...?
its 63mm in diameter and you will need about 3-4 inches off it at a guess. and you will also neeed a breather filter or catch tank.
As for front suspension. i would get some eibach 50mms. get them fitted and the torsion bar adjusted to match. then once thats done in a few months time after you have the wheels on.. look into upgrading the shocks when you have some more money. will be looking at around £300 mark for billies but they are worth it.
Tuscan
18-02-2007, 01:36 PM
Although buying sepearate shocksd and springs often works out more expensive than just buying a kit that has all the parts you need.
Id wait and buy a kit wichis the best value for money option.
If you have alot of money to play around with, You could buy different parts form different company's.
James.G
18-02-2007, 01:39 PM
i see what your saying nath, and its true, but if kinger wants the best set up for his quicky, H&R/eibach with billies is amazin! and as you cant buy them as a kit, so buy them separatly at different times to save money.
Kinger
18-02-2007, 06:22 PM
is there a kit that you would recommend then, good value for money and that contains all i need to lower it by 55-60mm? if so where from and how much!
ive also found a set of alloys i quite like the loook of
http://www.potn.co.uk/-_c1_8943_33_8714_p1011403.htm
im not sure on what colour yet tho, shadow chrome or silver? wat u guys prefer? i prefer shadow!
i'd get the 195x45x15 tyres for an extra £32.
i think ill buy the alloys first, then lower, once i know what i need to buy exactly.
cheers
scot-ish
18-02-2007, 06:38 PM
tis a cheap price mate fo rthem ,but ull get a 2nd hand set of cyclones for the pirce, an they will be a helluva lot nicer, or 205 1.9 gti wheels look the daddys on all 106's
Tuscan
18-02-2007, 07:01 PM
Agree with ya Scot-ish, i love both of those wheels.... In white :)
Those wheels looks nice kinger,multi-spokes always look nice on a 106, And deffinately upgrade those tyres mate.
Depends on how much u want to spend really .
If you have the money do what James G suggested.
If you have slightly less money go for G-Max kit.
scot-ish
18-02-2007, 07:02 PM
or if u really have the money, do what ive done up front, an get a set o leda coilovers done, an bilstiens for the back
Kinger
19-02-2007, 01:07 PM
yer i think i will have to go for the G Max kit due to fundings! thanks for all your alternatives tho! another question i wanted to ask. why do alot of you guys lower the back more than the front? does this mean i will lower the back 55 and front 50mm or summit like that? cheers
James.G
19-02-2007, 01:25 PM
people lower the back more than the front through personal choice and its easier to get the back lower. but for handleing i think its better it the back is the same hight or even 5mm higher.
Kinger
19-02-2007, 01:54 PM
ahh right and with this g max kit i can lower it at a max of 55mm front and back? or is that down to the springs supplied? could i buy different springs to make the back say 60 mm on the gmax shocks?
James.G
19-02-2007, 02:39 PM
yeah you could. if the kit says 55mm then that how much the front will lower. then back is up to you. just tell the person how much you want the rear done when you get it lowered
Kinger
19-02-2007, 02:59 PM
ahh right ok kool! well i dunno between 60-65 for the back i think. hmm 65 most likely :P thanks for the heads up mate ;)
I was going to ask about suspension/lowering in my progress thread but all my questions have been answered! Cheers guys

Firstly you should have got the stuff from Pug it only costs 2.49. Dewipering is easy. There is a DIY guide in the DIY section. Really good mod.

hey guys theres been a massive downside to my plans, thus why i havent added anything here for over a month! turns out wen i sold my bike, it still had some finance left to pay off :( just over £700, so i had nothing left to buy any bits and bobs for the car :(. it sucks!
But.. my mate recently had an accident and wrote his car off, and has offered me his Cobra Sidewinder seats in black for £150-200!!! he said i dnt have to pay him in one go either which is great as im not earnin a lot at the mo :( but all i need to do is buy the cobra sub frames, i found a set on ebay but i probably gunna miss them and hav to look for some more! hopefully there not to hard to come by, dont realli fancy payin £150ish for a new set!!! well ill keep this updated as much as poss, should be gettin the seats next week so ill post up some pics etc then!!
cheers!

29-04-2007, 06:11 PM
ok i did strip the back out, tried it for a few days but it really didnt suit my way of driving, i often hav passegers so it didnt work out :( maybe properly in the future!
However, after inspiration from Dargs and a few others on this site ive decided i would like to have a crack at painting my Quicky Wheels black!
the only thing is i need to use the car so i will be doing 1 wheel at a time and using my spare to substitute what wheel is being done at each interval if you get what i mean, so until all are done my car will look odd. it may take some time tho but its worth it! im off to halfords to get all the kit i need tomorrow again thanks to a list supplied by dargs' guide on this forum! cheers mate!
a few questions tho!
ive never done anything like this before, if i was to tackle all 4 at once, how would i leave the car standing?
cheers everyone :D
after this its being lowered 60mm for sure!

a little photoshop i just did of my quiky on the black wheels and lowered a bit! i think it would look really nice! opinions are welcome!
Marcs
13-05-2007, 01:25 AM
That photoshop looks awesome!
You planning to go matt black like that^^
Or gloss black??
Cause i think that (above) as a matt black almost grey ish looks better:D
Matt black would be original.
Gloos looks the best though! :p
Kinger
13-05-2007, 01:39 AM
to be honest i didnt think of it either matt or gloss. im not too sure now! i think the guide ive read through is to do them gloss, how would i go about doing it at matt, is it just a simple case of using the different type of paint and doing the rest the same as the guide that dargs wrote.
sorry ive never done painting so im tryin to learn stuff along the way! cheers for the opinions so far! luke could u pop a picture up in here of ur quicky on the glossed wheels ? cheers lads!
Kinger
13-05-2007, 11:28 AM
another question, what exactly is Laquer? what does it do, if i decide to go Matt do i need it still? sorry if the questions are a bit obvious! cheers again everyone!!! off to Halfords in an hour to get most the stuff so need to know about Laquer!
lewis
13-05-2007, 11:39 AM
Lacquer is the clear coat u put over the top of the wheels u protect the paint so yes i would think u still need it
Kinger
13-05-2007, 11:45 AM
ahhh ok yer kool, i thought it was something to make the gloss paint more glossy if u get me, so ill get me some of that :D cheers for the heads up dude!

yeah it would be a simple case of changing gloss black for matt black. i would go grey tho :)

It better be a matt one!
Have a look at Dargs' progress thread.

its kind of a Matt look, its not really shiney like the gloss but still has a light gleam to it, mid way between the 2 i think!

ok i went to get the spare wheel off today, so i can swapp it for the first wheel to start painting, however turns out i need something called a 'wheel-brace' which is missing from my car! never had one when i got it :@ is there any other way to get the spare wheel off? and othe tool to use ?~
cheers
do you mean that you cant get the wheel off from underneath the car or cant swap the wheels?
Kinger
14-05-2007, 06:50 PM
i cant get the spare wheel off as i dont have the tool thats ment to be attached to the inside of the boot to the left :S so lookin for a way around it
put a chisel in the slot that holds the spare wheel on in the boot thats what i did to get it off
Kinger
14-05-2007, 07:07 PM
i tried it, wouldnt budge! ill hav another crack tho! if i do get it off, for the actually wheel bolts can i just use a socket set, or is the wheel brace needed to remove the actual wheels too?
no you can use sockets to get them off
Kinger
14-05-2007, 07:13 PM
ahhh kool so may get away with the chizzle idea! ill go try it agen now! cheers bud!

:D it came off just wasnt tryin hard enuf! :P i cleaned the spare and began sanding it down, im using the spare mainly as a practise for the other 4 wheels. but bloody hell it takes ages to sand!
it took me like an hour for each wheel LOL
but worth it:D

14-05-2007, 10:25 PM

new update, gave the car a clean today and randomly decided to remove the quiksilver pillar strips from each side, :P i think it looks much better now :D! one of them came straight off with no trace of glue on the paint work, however the other left some dry glue which i managed to get the main bits off! have any of you got any tips for getting rid of what is left of it, basically just fine little rough speckles! cheers!!
i will post some pictures up tomorrow morning of how its looking now!
also the first alloy has been finished, it took ages as i havent really managed my time well to fit it in, but tomorrow im swappin this one for another one on the car and hopefully will have that sanded and primmered up before lunch :P
i must say the first wheel has gone rather well, however i think i got some dust under a layer of paint as there are a few tiny little grainy bits on it, but i was using this one realli as a tester/practice, before the other 4 were to be done! but im happy with it :D
ill also get some pictures of the finished first wheel up once its on :D
Thanks again :D i cant wait to have the wheels completed, it actually feels like im making some kind of progress and so far all mods (even tho there rather small) have been done by myself! i kind of like lookin at something and knowing i made it if you get me :D more updates soon ;)
Sounds good.
For the residue left by the pillar sticker try Auto Glym Intensive Tar remover, should get the rest of.

The guy with the cobra's didnt sell them in the end :( but obviously now lookin for a cheapish nice set of buckets if any of u hav any u can suggest ;)
Look for a make call cosmic. They are a cobra replica and theres loads on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Pair-of-Reclining-Rally-Car-Bucket-Seats-in-Blue-or-Red_W0QQitemZ260120880402QQihZ016QQcategoryZ30172Q QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
and u can't really bitch for the price. I have a single one of these in my pug in grey and they are proper comfy even on long journeys. You will need subframes tho which you can get from Demon tweaks.

:( didnt get to put my first wheel on, got 3 bolts undone and realised the 4th was a lockin security nut, which to un-do i need to use a tool that came with my car, which i didnt get :( so i spent all day goin to local garages and the only way to do it is to have them drilled out etc etc with a bit of cost behind it, ill get some pics of the pillars later tho!
cheers for advice on that :)

Thats unlucky mate. What type of locker is it? If its just one that has an odd shape around the outside just get an old socket and hammer it on and then use an impact air wrench or a long breaker bar to get it moving. Can't promise the socket will be any good after tho. I have seen universal lock nut removal things on ebay quite cheaply.

hmmm the nut has like 3 pin holes in random places on it, not too sure what ill do. i may just take it and let peugeot do it :( cheers for advice tho!
Audio cost:
sub and amp deal: £109.99 from car audio security
6x9's were 35 down from 85 on ebay
head unit was £200 odd back wen it was brought like a year ago! cheers

hey guys its been a while. i for some reason just slowly lost interest in my car due to money and being worried about a speeding offense (mentioned below). so i thought i'd fish this back up as stuff will start moving again soon!
unfortunatly i hae been banned from driving for 6 weeks due to a stupid silly speeding offense 6 months ago.
since i last came on and updated this i have got a new job at a local Currys store! its good pay for me and fits in well with 6th form so im now earning enough to get this car going!
first thing for me to do is fix my passenger door! a little while ago the door just gradually started getting lower, turns out the weld on the frame to the car had began splitting. but until now i had no money so this is booked in for next week! while the door was broken it was really awkward to close so people would practically throw themselves into it to close it! really pissed me off! so theres dents all over it, only small but noticeable! so this is also getting done on the same day along with a minor scrape on the rear wheel arch which happened back when i first got the car!
so while im waiting for that i have purchased some red seatbelts from Doely. for some reason i think they would look quite cool, so there arriving next week!
i also picked up a parcel shelf from the local scrappy for a 10er, really good nik!
so thats the small bits and bobs! while at the body shop im guna get a quote for a bit of work, depending how much it is, i may wait till next month!
sorry for the long boring chunk of writing!
ill start updating more when belts are fitted and next plans are carried out
cheers

I finally decided to go for a 2" pugsport full decat system about a month ago! Love the look of the exhaust however at the moment i dont have a 4-2-1 so i dont believe im getting the most i can out of it! i have just been paid so a 4-2-1 should be coming this week! Heres the only pic i have of the exhaust on the car:
http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/%5Burl=http://imageshack.us%5D%5Bimg=http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5140/dscn0446bd4.jpg%5D%5B/url%5D
http://img223.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dscn0446bd4.jpghttp://img223.imageshack.us/img223/5140/dscn0446bd4.jpg
after this i went for a new headunit as my one randomly stopped working and i fiited a new steering wheel that ive had for a while but was to lazy to fit! ill add pictures shortly!
Thanks folks!
