Hey guys and gals

Ive got a couple of problems with the QS!

The main ones being that it will randomly cut out, but i think they is the throttle body so ignore that lol

The 2nd and most concerning is the fact that the temp gauge keeps shooting up to just under the red. It had a skimmed head and new head gasket in July last year, has had a new rad, thermostat and water pump...

Any ideas what it could be?

Cheers, Adam

with that temp going like that sounds like the head gasket mate...

What would you say the main ways of checking are?

Check oil on dipstick?

Check to see if theres oil in the water, losin water or if u avnt got a compression tester take the spark plugs out, cover the bores with a rag and turn the engine over and see if theres compression on each cylinder i think

Check for mayo/ white looking gunk on oil cap for head g fail.

Could just be an air block in rad pipes too??

flush rad refil and new coolent then bleed, worth trying the little cheap things first.

Gotta say though when it happened to me on my old car, the head went about 4 weeks later and following that few more weeks later i had to replace heater matrix :-\

Make sure the headgasket isn't leaking first, keep an eye on the coolant level and the oil level. If these are ok, sounds like your NTC sensor mate. (Coolant temp sensor)

NTC sensor can cause a lot more problems than just temperature rising, ie irratic idle, mis-fire, etc though doesnt it? personally i would bleed the system first (like i did) because its free where as a sensor is not ;)

yeah it can do but it can also make the gauge go up and down randomly.

Not disputing that, but it would more than likely show in more ways that one (that sensor is only about 8quid anyway)

Its more than likely an air lock or a blockage in a coolant channel or rad or possibly your thermostat again? because if your car has over-heated it could possibly lead to the thermostat sticking closed which would mean higher temperatures around the engine coolant temperature sensor as it is only a few inches behind the thermostat

as said i would bleed the system first, then i f u can afford it or have mates with one get a compression test done, if thats good, should be the NTC, as its tepmin up, and its idlin mad an cuttin out

How much are compression tests?

I topped up the collant a bit and its been fine since
