Nick's series1 Rallye

I'll start this rolling... only pictures and stickers as far as progress goes so far!!
I was looking for a series1 rallye a few months ago but gave up finding a nice one! so settled on an Xsi.

Put a 250 pound deposit on and XSi, which i haven't bought for many various circumstances, you learn from your mistakes eh?

Anyway, i saw this on friday night on pistonheads, called the guy and arranged to go view it at 2pm on saturday!

By 3pm on saturday afternoon it was sat on my drive!

1994 Series1 cherry red rallye.
full service history, 79,501 miles.

Loads of receipts etc etc in good condition for its age.

Looking forward to drive it, oh and i've named it Raymond the Rallye :D

My camera is shocking it just doesnt take pictures in the dark :D

Yeah i guess it is a nice first car.
Definatley going to be speedlines anyway!
First of all i'm going to make it as MINT as possible.

Engines having a steam clean next weekend. Paint work is going to be worked on when the weather gets a bit better.

Nice rallye, but don`t steam clean the engine bay if possible, as it will get into electronics and they are not very good when wet.

Get to halfords and pic up the engine detailer kit, works very well if you follow the instructions, bought mine right up.

get some 'gunk' from halfords. amazing stuff. check my progress thread out to see how good it is...

to get then engine cleaned... best way really is some gunk, wet cloth, and a good bit of elbow grease.

If i can get a set of axle stands i might go all out and give the underneath a quick clean.

Need to do the two front arches next.

yeah get some axel stands mate. i had mine on them for about a month just stood there... worth it tho.. spotless now. cage is attatched by 2 hook things, you will see it when you get under there.. isnt hard to take off :)

Cut some card out to make a mock plate up but couldn't find a permanent marker!

had to bodge the letters on LOL.

Think it's bit too small anyway....

Just gonna cut my normal plate so there's 1cm each side.

Bit more progress today.

Bought a petrol cap from the scrappy last week, however it was purple!

So today i have sprayed it red, until i can get a proper cherry red one off the RR. Will do until then!

Looks better than the shitty alloy one it came with!

It's about time i updated this, seeing as it is staying with me now!

Today i bought some 106gti calipers,pads with brembo discs. (will do undo i can afford 206gti brakes)

And have swapped my piperx filter for a standard air box!

I am un decided on what approach to take.. strip, and slag out.. or try keep it in as good condition as possible and keep all the interior in?

Haven't updated this for ages.

Its been a tough few months.

As you all know the rallye has been off the road for ages!

I've spent shedloads on it and it's actually back off the road again lolzzzz.


Since i last updated this it's seen lots of new bits and bobs:


106 gti shocks all around
106 gti callipers with drilled/grooved discs and ceramic pads
S2 steelies with kumho tyres.
centre caps
New decal
de-wiper bung
fresh oil/plugs/filters
New (working!) clocks
new bonnet hinge
S1 airbox
BMC panel filter

im that tired i cant remember all the rest.

BUT:

the engine is now playing up.

Headgasket has gone, waterpump and thermostat suspected to have stopped working so this weeks shopping list includes


repair headgasket
skim the cylinder head
headbolts
cambelt
waterpump
tensioner
thermostat
fresh oil
re-set the tappets.

Also waiting on a Pugsport to arrive.


Still need to get the lower wishbones done as they are also near enough fucked, but they will come next week.

its nearly back to where i want it now and at the moment i am happy with it!

Another update today!!

Well having never (yes NEVER) had a CD player i went out and bought some new bits and bobs today.

I like all my mates Alpine cd players so i sort of knew what i was after.

Im useless with audio stuff so just picked the most expensive one really:o and the one which looked nicest.

Im happy with it, and i also got some speakers thrown in free because the man at audio island is a legend!

I know they arent the greatest but they are mint for what i need and you can't complain for free.

Anyway got it all fitted now and i finally have tunes in my car!!

Also - MY OWNERS PACK CAME, lolzzz. so i stuck a sticker on to make my car faster

tried mate, the xsi's come with two holes each side though, one for the screw and one just to clip in so it doesn sit on the boot properly.

The little knob needs sanding off and i dont want to do that incase it doesnt suit it!

danvilla - do you need a diablo red xsi front bumper? is it yours whos cracked? pm me if you do ;)

Just check the red hammerite colour before you apply it mate... I bought some of that stuff to paint my torsion bars with & it was very bright... Like a luminous colour.. Lol.. :p

They really need doing as the paint is scrubbing off in some places and they just look tatty! If its really bright i think i'll give it a miss lol.

I like to keep it clean(ish) but the good thing with rallyes is they sort of suit the whole dirty tatty paintwork look anyway.

Would definatley say get one as a second car, you will have bags of fun in it, and all the bmx boys love them too :p:)

cars going to phils to get rebuilt after the head has been re worked by a place in retford.

Wishbones arrived today.

which, to be honest, i am shocked with!

Bought the pugsport today and they said it will be here for tuesday!!

Join this exclusive club :D I wasnt overly keen on the 3", but I had no choice getting it second hand, I would like to get a 2"/2.5" inward rolled ideally, but the 3" grew on me. has a nicer sound IMo thatn the 2", a bit more of a bassy noise.

Time for an update.

im finally (after 8 months)

enjoying driving my 106.

A big big thanks to Phil and everyone who has helped me get it to this 'neutral' stage.

albeit very very fun at the same time.

I now consider it a good base to make it a real weapon of an S1

Pugsport is on, and to anyone who say's a 2" pugsport is the only one to go for... Get to fook!

love the 3", suits the bumper better and in no way is it big ... sounds lovely.


Im in the process of finding out about getting my s1 box rebuilt as it has started to give a little. I want it rebuilding with a Quaife dif so im going to look into it.

Phil has done an excellent job of rebuilding the little 1.3 lump. The proper inlet gaskets are on now, even for an s1 it idles well :)

i love the look on steelies, i will never sell them but watch this space, very closely.
