are the disks too hot to handle when you eject them? do you have to let them cool down before you can actually pick the disks up?

The disks are holdable but still really hot this is after around 45 mins playtime as well. The metal area on the unit is not holdable though that gets really hot.

I think its to do with the fact that the screen is creating extra heat behind it and that is transferring to the disks...

Will it do any damage to the wires in the dash or the unit itself?

nah i wouldnt have thought so, ive had mine in for aaaages, n nothing has ever gone wrong with it. If your that concerned i'd ring the company where you got it from see if its normal for the headunit to do it

Is it a JVC? My JVC KD-LH811 gets pretty bloody hot, cracking unit though!

Ive just got a normal cd player headunit in mine, and that seems to get hot after about 45 mins, i think its down to there not being a lot of ventilation in the dash, where the headunit sits.

Well if you feel the dash of the car that can get hot when its hot (hardly ever then) so inside the dash can get rly hot, if its worring you get some reflecty foil to put on the roof of the inside of the dash.

this is perfectly normal mate.the metal bit u touched on the headunit itself is the heat-sink. its like a mini radiator for the head unit.so obviously it does get very hot.it wont damage ur wires aslong as when ur installing the unit u keep the wires tucked away.
and all cds will get hot wen been played its the norm.

Mine gets hot as well, its been like that for 2 years so its not a problem. The unit should cut out if it gets too hot, my amplifiers do. My old non dvd one didn`t get as hot so i just thought it was normal for one with more features to get hotter.
