I have owned the car since last year and during that time it has performed faultlessly, been perfectly reliable all through winter and has never failed to start first time and drive as it should. However being made redundant just before christmas I have realised I can't really justify running this brilliant hot hatch as a daily driver. Although it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it, being a very desirable group 13 car the tax and insurance are not the cheapest so unfortunately it has to go! If you're under 21 and considering bidding on this vehicle I would recommend getting a few insurance quotes first to avoid disappointment.
The car itself is a 1998 model and with the exception of a few minor marks is in good condition for the year. Cosmetically the only things that let it down are a tiny dent in the rear quarter panel no larger than a 5p piece, and a minor crack in the front bumper just next to the headlight. Another thing I feel I should mention is when I purchased the car the bonnet had several small dents and some paint damage, so I replaced it with a clean white one which I then had professionally sprayed by a friend in the motor trade. The difference in shade is barely noticeable and I had trouble getting any of the faults to show up on the pictures, however I will take some more during the week and try to highlight any faults.
The interior of the car has all the typical GTI features, it benefits from a complete half leather interior, electric windows, power steering, central locking, alarm and immobiliser. Currently one of the interior sensors is faulty and triggers the alarm off so I turn them off, probably not a difficult job to replace them if you wanted but it hasn't bothered me during my ownership of the car. As well as everything else you would expect from a GTI the car has a very impressive sound system installed, which constists of front Alpine tweeters, Sony components front and rear, Infiniti 6x9s in the parcel shelf and a FLI 12" subwoofer in the boot powered by a Shark 1000w amplifier. I will be leaving the complete system in the car if it meets the reserve price.
I really will be sorry to see the car go, it's easy the best handling car I've driven yet, with the sporty suspension and Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres it sticks to the road like a go kart and has no trouble stopping with disc brakes all round. It's a very nippy little machine and the 1.6 16v engine pulls like a train in a little car such as this, and it starts, runs and drives perfectly, having had a complete new clutch, oil and coolant change last November. It has a long MOT until December this year, and tax until May. The mileage might be considered slightly above average but all in all it's a solid, tidy and reliable car and will give it's new owner many more years of fun driving. Please remember it's a 1998 car at the end of the day so anyone who is expecting a mint condition example I would recommend you come and view the car before bidding, test drives will be welcome as long as I've got the full buy it now price in my hand and a proper certificate of insurance. I'll take cash on collection or a cheque, but please bear in mind I'll need to wait for any cheques to clear before handing over the keys.
