View Full Version : Club Ethos!

Right,
Im posting this in possibly the worst mood possible due to tonights 1.1 bashing antics I have witnessed on this forum
So I am going to say this as bluntly as I can put it
I have been a member of maybe 6-10 forums, and in every one there has been some shitty attitude of "normality"
If you have a 106 - you have to "debadge it, delock it, and fit morettes"
or..
If you have a 106 - you have to "fit a pugsport, dont lower it more than 30mm"
or..
"why buy a quiksilver and mod it when you can get a gti"
or..
"why buy a 1.1 when and mod it when you can get a gti"
ENOUGH!
This club was started 7 months ago by myself with the SOLE PURPOSE of bringing back the fun part of car modifying that seems to have been forgotten in the UK car scene
You buy a car because you love it, because it appeals to you, because it matches your personality. And this is the same reason we all mod our cars, to express our personalities and make us happy!
I have a roll cage in my car and a pugsport exhaust system, I also have a load of speakers and a sub and I've kept my back seats in!
Most people dont agree with that - its a mix of track mentality and show car - which is why in the past I've put up with driving a stripped out car which annoyed me. But since I decided to do WHAT I WANT i've never been happier
I love my pugsport - the noise - the power. I love my cage - the way it makes my car handle
I also love my car being cumfy and being able to listen to music I enjoy through a nice sound system
That is the ethos of this club, drive the car YOU WANT TO and modify it however it makes YOU HAPPY!
If you like lexus lights.. fit them. If you want a bright pink interior.. get it retrimmed.
It doesnt matter what others think.. it matters what you think.
And if I see any more threads slating other peoples choices in either car or modification, I will start banning people. I would honestly rather delete this entire site than watch it get the same flock of sheep mentality of other car clubs!
That being said.. I am now going to get drunk and try to put tonight behind me!

Good decision, i have had most things on my car and that is when you find out if you like them or not, not what other people say. Everyone else can recommend things but no one likes the same parts. I must say, there was a wide variety of differently modified cars on the stand at fcs and they all looked good.

Str8 to the point fuzz.
It bothers me that people perhaps forget where they started and if they didnt have to run a 1.1 for whatever reason - mommys boys/girls or whatever then they dont appreciate the little things that count. It pisses me off when sat with mates who constantly slate lower engine cars forgetting they have only moved up the ladder a few months ago!
I had plenty of fun in my 1.1 and shocked a few people too.

Totally agree Phil.. Well said.. :)
Your car.. Your mods.. Your decisions... Yes, people may disagree wth mods you have done, but so what.... At the end of the day its your car & your money.... Do what makes YOU happy... :)
The world is your oyster 106 owners.... ;) :p

You see I am the perfect example of what not to do
Everyone has seen "the" pic of my car - it was perfect
But a few people told me big wheels and silly drop was daft, "tracks cars are in now". I swapped £800 worth of wheels for some raceline rl7's that were in horrid condition.
I stripped it out so it was cold, damp, rattly and annoying. Over the next 6 months I made a car loads loved and I hated
Im past that now - I but what I want, and make my car look the way I want it to look and drive the way I want it to drive
Lifes to short to try and make other people happy, if I hadnt of listened to them all I might still be driving the nicest quiksilver in the UK :(

which is why i dont understand why people get pissed orf when other people dont like their cars.
aslong as you like it , who cares.
im upfront (and maybe too honest) sometimes.
other people might not like my car. doesnt bother me though. ( so if i post pics dont be affraid to say it)
you have a car that you like and not just to impress others.

Lowering your car 70mm...??? You must be joking right..???!!!! ;) :p
lowest ive known on a 106 was 80mm on coilovers and 120mm on airbaig suspension.
also. one phrase has sprung to mind....
'build YOUR car for YOURself and no-one else'
I totally agree, although alot of people will post pics up of mods etc and people will give an opinion of it and its generally 50/50 in views.
I think that maybe in the show n shine/progress threads there should be something that says you post things in here and you will get different opinions from members, so not to get offended. After all, its a public forum and we're here to help people out, BUT if you dont want to hear peoples opinions, maybe say so whe you post something?
Just dont get offended by things, and like fuzzy and a few others have said - your car is your car - no-one drives it barr you, you pay the bills on it so do as you please to it. If people dont like it....they dont have to look at it!!
Hope my essay is understood lol, im abit hungover!

22-07-2007, 12:37 PM
i agree with what your saying...but that 1.1 thread was just a bit of fun, no one got offended and people had a laugh at it
Newbies might take it the wrong way though, last thing we want is an influx of possible new members having a mooch around the forum and clicking on a thread and seeing banter which us regulars know is only tongue in cheek and taking it seriously and not signing up cause they think were all anti 1.1 or anti this or anti that!
Keep in civil and friendly, and keep banter like that for when we're at meets etc and we know how things should be taken

I dont think thats for you to say - I get the reported post messages and PM's when people get offended!

In fact actually no I want to add to this
Peedee I got a shit load of abuse for making you regional leader because you dont have a pug and I said everyone needed a 106 for that position. But I gave you the benefit of the doubt. Chris you do post a lot of stuff that although I realise is humour, could be taken offensively and definatly breaks this clubs "ethos" guidelines, but i've met you and your a sound lad so I dont care
Now whats Dan done thats so bad?, had a joke around that a couple of people have taken wrong. OH AND I know this is personal beyond the forum because I can funnily enough read all your PM's. So dont give me a load of bull thinking im soft and will just take it all in!
So I am giving Dan the moderator roll because he actively helps me out - if anyone doesnt like that I'm sorry but go find another club!

Don`t quit phill, it is a great club. Ive not been on as much as others due to on going projects but ive not noticed anything bad. Ive met dan at fcs and he seemed alright. I think though that the club has grown too fast to keep up with, if it had only got 500 members then i suppose it would be easier to manage, but work does come before a club where you don`t get paid to run it. I know about being involved running a club as im on the committee of my local r/c club and things take a lot of time to get running smoothly, a lot more than people actually see who are not involved.

I'm not quitting mate - but there is gonna be a big overhall of staff/moderators and regional leaders this week
Im just gonna be harsh and people not doing their jobs are going..
And I will be advertising for more mods because the site is HUGE after FCS and way too much for me to handle alone

Thats fair enough mate, but, at the same time, I haven't personally threatened people just because I disagree with someone's constructive views on my car. If you can read PM's Phil, you would have read mine and know this is true. Hardly the attitude of a club mod is it?
Anyways, lets just drop the whole thing.

personally i think you do need a few more mods, the whole club knows how much time and effort you have put into the club and they appreciate that, but you need to cut your workload abit, i might not post much but im online most nights of the week so if theres owt i can do to help out give us a shout

I absolutley agree with everything everyons said. I don't slate peoples cars on here because that's how they want them to be, if people told me how to modify my car i'd tell them to suck me off! I'm not a brown noser at all and anyone that knows me would probably agree, but i want this club to be big because just like everyone else i'm addicted to it and like James, i'm willing to help out in whatever way i can.
Peace. x

i like the fact that this forum is for the whole 106 range and not just a specific model like most forums around.
gives you more ideas, feedback and contacts to help you modify your 106 to the specification you want. also gives you a better community of enthusiasts to meet with. :)

thats totally how i see it matty, from 1.0's to 1.6's, petrol or diesel, 3 door or 5 door, MK 1 or MK 2, auto or manual...i think you get my point lol
FUZZY I'M HAPPY TO BE A MOD, ALWAYS ON HERE, GIVE ME A SHOUT IF YOU NEED ANYONE?:)

if Phil thinks you will make a good mod and he needs some more on the team, then he will make you a mod.
if he doesnt... then he wont.
Lacey
27-07-2007, 02:25 PM
right basically comments are fine up to a point when the staff feel its necessary to start deleting posts and threads for that matter then there will be a problem. Phil has enough work to do without having to deal with people slagging eachother off.
Peace.
;)
When I post pics up I like getting feedback! I like hearing what other people think, whether they like it or not, ways that I could improve my car etc
It doesn't mean that I have to agree with them though, or do what they say because if I didn't like the mods that I had bought then I wouldn't have bought them and put them on my car!
Its your car, your decision what you do to it! But if you post pics then usually you do want peoples honest opinions do you not

wot happend to ur license anyways?
and i agree with people not having the right to slate other peoples pride and joy ,abit of friendly advice or just general comments good or bad is a good thing and gives you ideas and where to go next.
but i do know a few people can get out of hand and sometimes be damn right offensive towards other peoples cars (which is probably why hes been banned.lol:p) and it can put people off wanting to join.

At the end of the day people are entitled to their opinion. Not everyone will like what someone does but everyone is different. :P Theres no need to be nasty though.
I generally think if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all but sometimes I can't help myself. (neons!?!)
