Hi folks,

I'm leaking oil from the top of the engine where the rocker cover meets the block. I have been told this is a common problem on 16v models and that I need to re-seal the rocker cover. Can anyone shed any light on this??

From what I understand you just take them off and scrape all the gunk off the bottom
Then cover them in liquid gasket and boltt hem back on

Cheers mate. Thats what I was told by the garage. Do you know if there is anything I should be aware of when I take the rocker cover off??

ive had the same sort of problem recently, its been resealed 4 times and still a leak. does the oil drip onto the floor or the alternator or somewhere around that area?

the problem is on the 16v's they come with small seals and once they go there is no chance of using any other seals as its like stick on ones. so u have to use gasket sealer to try seal them up.

Ello mate,

Sounds like your leak is coming from a different part of the rocker cover to mine. Mine leaks from the small alcove under the small induction pipe on the right hand side (if looking from the top). The oil runs down the side of the engine and onto the floor, its proper annoying! I'm gonna try and re-seal it myself. Did you do it yourself or take it to a garage?

my mate did it, he is a mechanic for a peugeot specialist. mines coming from the front near the actual oil cap area.

he said he used some stuff that turns to like plastic when it sets.

This seems to be quite a common problem with 16v's! This post has only been on here an hour or so and loads of people have replied!

I've been advised to used gasket sealer. Peugeot said they do it for a tenner. Don't suppose your mate lives in Essex does he?? LOL!

Cheers for the tip bro.

LOL! funny you should mention that mate, I stole the washing up bowl to do the same thing, my mum went nuts when she found out!!

Its only leaking slightly, maybe 4 - 5 drops per 8 hours or so, even still, its enough to worry me slightly! Off to Halfords in a mo!! Let ya know how it goes.

Well, I took the rocker / cam covers off, cleared off all the old sealant to reveal the original rubber seal. The seal has a huge split in it. I gave both covers a proper thorough clean and applied new sealant. re-built everything, but its still leaking from where the original seal has split. This is starting to annoy me!

Anyone got anymore tips they wanna share. You're help would be most appreciated guys and gals!!!!

lol!

When did you have it done at the garage? How much was it? Has it leaked since? This is well pissin me off!! Where do you live? If I live near, I may take it to the same garage. I don't wanna take it to a main dealer, I'll get bummed otherwise.

Cheers!!!!!!!

I've been told that you can use Nissan red instant gasket seal (£38.50 plus vat) or fast-rads sealant (cheaper than the nissan stuff), both are very effective against this problem *warning* both are very caustic though! (so be careful around your rubbers and plastics and painted rockers)

Cheers,

I've got it booked in for the weekend coming up. Just gonna bite the bullet and get me debit card out! Thanks everyone for all the help though!!!!

Sometimes its just best to let the pro's do it I think, although I'm never gonna take it to a main dealer. Does anyone else seem to find they're ridiculously expensive?
