Ok, i have got a thread about the wide arched one now i should have one for the other 106 as that has had quite a bit done to it as well. That is also on a k plate and started as a 1.1 graduate so it came with nice blue carpets and a half decent interior. I kept the 1.1 for insurance reasons and fitted some nice 3 stud 15 inch bk racing alloys which i have never seen yet on any other 106. As it was a base model with flat arches there was some rubbing when it got lowered so the rear bumper bracket was removed and the arches were slightly flared out so that cured that. After a year of owning it and not crashing the insurance came down so i decided to do some more modifications. I ordered some series 2 gti arch mouldings and bought some m3 style side skirts as they were cheaper than genuine gti ones. I also converted to 4 stud as i had a full set of axles off a 2001 saxo vtr ( the one that i took the engine out of for the wide arch one ) so i fitted them one weekend but the wheels were no use then so i found some 16 inch ones and fitted them. I fitted the front seats out of a series 1 vtr first then swapped the whole interior for some seats out of a series 2 vtr and left the rest of the interior out so it is pretty stripped out.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/16wheel.jpg
The bonnet pins were removed and a new bonnet was fitted which i removed the badge and some xsi wings and front bumper were sourced and fitted.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/100_1626.jpg
A few weeks before trax 06 i hit a pot hole and it ruined one of the 16 inch wheels and i could not find were they sold them so i fitted some tsw evo r`s in 15 inch as the tyres are cheaper.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/My%20Baby/100_1744.jpg
I had a series 2 tailgate sat there to be fitted but the lights were different so i had these lying around so i fitted them and i think they are ok but i would like to fit standard ones at some point.

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/My%20Baby/100_1515.jpg
Going through to trax were i got a puncture at some point so i had to fit the spare to drive home with.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/200609219916i6s308m26mi.jpg
As it was before the wings and bumper were changed.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/My%20Baby/100_1514.jpg
Some gti side skirts were bought and fitted but i messed up the fitting of them so they now need to be re fitted at some point but it looks a lot better and more stock looking. I bought a cat c write off saxo vtr and used the engine as it was a runner so it now goes a whole lot faster and it is more up to date as it is a 1999 engine. So that is it, it runs great and is my work car while the wide arch one is being built but i will be keeping both as i need one for work and one for using at weekends.

I wasn`t too sure about the mirrors but ive had them on for a couple of years now and i am getting to like them. The sunstrip is functional though as ive often been out and the sun is usually just out of view so that is staying. What about the rear lights as that usually gets commented on, i was going to paint them white to go with the car.

fair points there, and nothing wrong with the lights i have snake eyes and people hate them.

Tis a pretty nice car except for above (were so sheepish)
I reckon if you need the sunstrip maybe try a black one ??
As for the mirrors, im sure some 205 gti ones would look nicer.
still a nice motor tho :)
Looks alright mate.
Hate the mirrors, sunstrip and rear lights though.
I like it, just not the mirrors really.....

Ok, i picked some standard lights up today so when i have found the plugs i had lying round, i will fit them and get some pics up. I also want to move the whole kit back about half an inch so it takes the gap out of the rear bumper and it will look a bit better. I have got some good condition rear arches to fit at the same time as i had cut these ones out when i fitted some 18 inch wheels for a few days so i want it to be pretty good for shows this year so i got some better ones. More progress when it happens between doing the mods to the other 106 ive got.

Do you have any s2 gti rear bumpers, as i could do with one as ive trimmed the lip off this one and i want a newer condition one.

I may give it a wash tomorrow so it will look cleaner. If i can get the new arches fitted and get it clean inside and fit the carpet in the boot, then i will be happy with it and not need to change anything else. I should have bought the rear bumper this morning off gina but then the kit would not have been complete. This bumper is fine but it should be changed to make it look stock again. I don`t know if standard series 2 mirrors would fit as ive not tried any, but i may have to change them at some point, but as they don`t make it drive or handle any different then they are staying.

Can this thread be moved to the progress blogs page please.
I have changed the rear lighs now and i must say it is looking more standard. The next thing is to raise the ride height a touch as ive had the springs sat here since last july and not bothered to fit them.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/My%20Baby/100_1785.jpg
The clocks, as i had to fit a digital speedo so i put a vts one in.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/My%20Baby/100_1787.jpg
Not a very good shot but the spare wheel is inside now as it wouldn`t fit underneath, and being an alloy i didn`t want it under there anyway.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f30/mat106/My%20Baby/100_1786.jpg
I just need to tidy the bodywork up now and fit the new arches that are painted ready to go on, but as they need bonding on i am going to wait till it is warmer before i tackle that.

I am thinking about a change of color for the wheels, i am thinking either anthracite or steel grey which the wide one will be painted in. Can anyone do a photoshop of it so i can see first. I have got newer arches to be fitted so ive got to remove these ones without braking the sideskirt as i need to move it back a touch. I might end up with the whole car a different color eventually as i like the steel grey now. Ive got a few days to mess with it as i want to clean the engine bay as ive not touched it since the engine got fitted.

Well they look better on my car than in your garage. Ive still got to paint the bumper at some point but i think it looks ok as it is. I nearly rang you to see if you had the doors left as one on the other car needs replacing, as i may be coming up near leicester in the near future so could have picked it up.

I feel ashamed because i have been neglecting the car for some time now, ive had some gti arches sat in the garage and a sideskirt sat there for some months now so ive decided that tomorrow is the time to fit them. Ive just got to remove the old ones, repaint a bit of the car and bond the new ones on. Ive also got the stereo gear to fit back in and remove the steel spare as ive got an alloy as well as a spare. The seats need cleaning and the wheels are dirty. The engine bay has not been touched since i fitted the new engine last june so that needs a bit of a clean up. The front bumper needs painting as i want it to look like new when finished which it should with all the new paint. Hopefully if it doesn`t rain then i can get all the work done, otherwise it will just be the inside that gets done.

Not as much done as id hoped for, but i got a good start on the interior. I have decided to fit the 12 inch sub back in along with the 6x9`s and the two amps. I will get some pics up when i can find the camera, i wanted to get some bodywork done but it started raining.

i know the feeling buddy been rainin heavily here for last 4 days :@ i wanted my bonnet done by tonight :( it sucks sooo much lol i needa garage but there arent any council ones going atm :(
coming along nicely.
big boys cars need sustrips, although mine could always do to be 2 inches lower! i may just have a dark smoke tint one put on the inside to lower it another 2 inch but not get in the way too much

It is looking quite naked now as ive removed the skirts and arch extensions. Im just waiting for the paint to dry then they should be fitted later on.

Right then, i finally re fitted the skirts and arches, i am not very happy as the rear arches fitted fine and the skirts fitted fine, but the front arches don`t fit as good as id wanted. There is a gap between the arch and skirt as im using mk1 wings and they are obviously not made to fit with gti arches. It is not too bad though as the arch is perfect with the wheels so i don`t need to move them again and i think i might make a piece to fill the gap in that i can glue on. I will get some pics up at the weekend of it when i have re painted some bits of it. I sikaflexed the rear arches on and even though it is not a very neat job, they won`t be falling off when i drive down the motorway. Anyway, it is a k reg car so it doesn`t need to be perfect. Next job after bodywork is to get it tuned up a bit with a new manifold or camshaft.

It looks a lot better with paint on, i still need to do the drivers side, but the other 106 has eaten the time up that i should be spending on this one. Anyway, when the other 106 is finished then i will spend time on this one, possibly with a wide kit, but not as wide.

As i got a tyre fitted to the spare for the dimma, i thought i would try it on this car for clearance, as i have already done the arch mods to allow 18`s to be fitted. It fits perfectly with 17`s so i am now on the lookout for some second hand, which i want to fit with 195/40 tyres to give better clearance. Obviously i would need to trim the front plastic from the arches, but i can get lock on it. I can also go a bit lower on the back as it is not close to anything that i can see.

If it was sat another 10mm at the back, it would be the same as if it was on 15`s. It may be a bit chavvy, but i like it.

Well, its been ages since i even did anything to the daily runner, so i thought it was time to swap the wheels and see if they fit. They do fit and i can get nearly full lock, no less than on 16`s and it doesn`t even scrape over bumps so they will be staying on this car now. It doesn`t sit too high as i can only just get a jack under the sill to jack it up, i like them anyway and thats all that matters. The car needs a clean before fcs but that will be done next saturday or at the show.

The evo-r`s are in the shed, i don`t know whether to advertise them or not as the fronts are worn a bit on the inside edge. I will probably get them re furbed or just keep them as winter wheels/ track wheels.
sweeet rims, u gonna get that bumper painted at some point?

Yep, this is the work car and general run around picking up parts in. The windows are black on the rear sides but ive not had the boot done again since changing it but that is on the list.

It fits straight on but there is a peg in the centre of the bumper which needs cutting off as there is no hole in the s1 shell. The boot won`t shut properly either so it will need a slight adjust of the lock as the gap is too small between the boot and bumper.
