got a sub and amp today, and a wiring kit.
Followed the instructions to wire it all up.

Power lead from fuse box to amp
RCA from headunit to amp
Leads from amp to sub
Remote from amp to headunit
Earth lead to nut in boot

Checked all conections were ok
then also tried with the power lead held against the battery positive terminal

and everytime the sub didnt work, and the power light on the amp was not lit?

Any ideas as i have no idea where ive gone wrong and why it isnt working

Help asap would be great :)

Ok had a play, and i get power to the amp if i put the power lead to the remote terminal on amp.
But then still nothing from sub.

Still get nothing if i go power to power terminal and remote to remote.

HELPPPP! BUMP

You have the remote wire connected to the right wire out of HU?
Positive Amp and Sub work? Could be a defective Amp.
Try testing it with another amp/sub.
You have a working fuse in the powerlead?

Just some suggestions

Earth problem, and the power cable should go straight to the battery and be fused as close to the battery as posible, try sanding the paint off the area around the bolt where the earth is.

Power cable dsnt need to go straight to battery
Mine is wired to fuse box next to the battery

I got power though when i put the power lead straight to the remote terminal... so surely it isnt actually a power/earthing problem.

Could possibly be a defective amp, im only borrowing it off a mate until he sells his car and the sub/amp.

So maybe should just invest in my own

Do you have any other friends with amps to test?

i think its your remote wire if it powers up when a constant 12v is on remote try a new remote cable and make sure its on the right wire on cd player if not put it on a constant live with a switch

i had a remote cabe that was split on the inside have a good look

First of all fix your remote wire and wire up the amp correctly

If the Amp lights up but the Sub does not work check the Sub is wired correctly, one i bought was not wired correctly inside the actual sub. Hence he sold it me for £20, instead of £100.

Two things...
1) on the sub, it has those two connectors, with screw off caps then a hole down the main part of the connector, how does that wire up? the person before had just put the cable down through the top hole, hooked it through the hole in the main part then screwed the cap on to tighten it in?
2) will some "Halfords 8 Amb Cable (blue)" do the job for the remote wire?

1) Yes, just put the wire in and screw it on.
2) Could possibly do the job.
Does it say in desc that its a remote wire?

kk thanks mate
last question i promise.
Does it matter whether RCA / Power lead go down drivers side/passenger side. IE if i put RCA down drivers and power down passenger will the RCA intefer with my electric dials etc...

I wouldnt of thought so.

I put the power down the passenger and RCA down the Drivers side and all is fine.
As long as the Power and RCA are down opposite sides i would of thought it would be fine

keep fiddling with the speaker cable going from the amp to the sub, i fitted my friends last nyt and it took a while to get the sub working as you have to make sure you connect pos to pos and neg to neg bt its nt that clear on all cables.

hope that helps
