I will be changing the front springs ive got and i was going to change the dampers as well, but what about coilovers. Ive got coilovers on the dimma one but ive not driven it yet to see how they are. What is the suggested make to go for as there are many different ones and so far the fk ones look good but they are £450. What do other people run and what are they like.

Not much point putting coilovers on a 106 not going to handel any better than lowering springs with a decent set of shocks

What shocks then are any good but are not a fortune, ive got some ventura springs which supposedly lower a gti 45mm and im putting them on a 1.6 8 valve so i think they will be about 40mm. I get the wheels catching slightly on heavy breaking as the paint is getting on the edge of the tyres so i want to go up about 5mm and its lowered 55mm now. I don`t want to do the job loads of times to get the height right which is why i thought about coilovers.

running GAZ on mine, there good but not great. Expect a very hard ride whatever ones you buy and alot of bouncing on the motorway...corners and windy roads on the other hand there f'kin insane ;)

60mm on them is about 45 as well on an 8v, so ud have to have them at the lowest setting otherwise 45 mm would look pretty much standard :D

Is it just me or doe sit feel like you have rear wheel drive when youv had lower springs etc put on lol?

With these new 60mm springs fitted,my back end is havin a great time on roundabouts ;D Seems like the car is flexing almost lol

I got to be honest i dont think much of coilovers :-\ not seen them on a 106 mind. My mate got them on his zetec s and they seem to clunk an awful lot and its a very hard ride compared to shocks and springs (i know its a hard ride with shocks n springs but coilovers seem worse to me - may just be me though lol)

To be honest the ride is not too important to me, after driving it as it is for so long and feeling every bump and dip in the road, i just need something that i can adjust the height a bit compared to what it is now and coilovers seemed the best option. If they are damper adjustable then that would be good so fk ones seem like the ones to get. I am now stuck for money as the dimma one has suddenly shot forward in steps as it is nearly ready for paint and get it running so i will be leaving this one as it is for a while. I will probably end up putting the ventura springs on temporary and see if they raise the height at all.

Can someone just clarify for me, what does a coilover setup comprise of? Are the FK ones fully adjustable? So you can adjust the height (how does this work on the back) and damper setting for softer/harder feeling?

Some of them are just height adjustable, with fixed damping and fixed damping rears. The ones that fk do are height and damping adjustable on the front, with the rear dampers being adjustable. The same torsion bars are kept so it is just the fronts that are height adjustable. The rear will alter slightly if you adjust the front height but will not be height adjustable itself.

Gaz is the same setup as described above aswell.

i had leda's on my old xsi, an i thought they wer pretty good, they arent the comfiest ride out there, but i liked the fact i could just jack it up, raise the front end, an give it **** round the back roads an a track, then just deck it agian for the looks

ghost developments have come up with a conversion kit based on the pugsport one but doesnt use a spherical bearing top mount. they've designed the kit for road rallying so it should take some abuse the springs are also available in various weights to suit your car. think it works out baou 250 for the conversion for the front. and then you use what ever inserts you choose
