300 watts rms isit?

if so then something like the alpine MRP 350 will be perfect to run your sub

its 350watts rms and is a mono amp so its dedicated just for bass!

think their around the 90 quid mark , bargain amp imo!

no i have a 1500 w sub and a 2channel 600w amp and it powers it fine just need to tinker about with the settings on your headunit and amp

Actually yes it does matter...

Assuming of course the wattage figures its stating is true, unlike when jbl quote their figures on the amps for example!

You want slightly more, otherwise what will happen, is you will end up turning the gain right up to get bass (which you shouldnt do anyways) and the amp will try to work harder as the sub wants more power and the amp cant supply it, and in the end the amp will clip and go into distortion and in the end it will send ac out and short the amp and maybe damage the sub in the process.

ive seen this time and time again in my shop. really common.

exactly the reason why i reccommended the alpine amp !

and can run at 2 ohm if needed :D

Whats wrong with JBL figures?

as james said.double check with him wether its the RMS ratin hes give u or just the general wattage rating. and also found out wot make sub it is,because if u cant find out wot the RMS is then atleast it gives u an idea of wether its guna b a decent quality sub or not neway, and wether the figures tht hes give u r correct.
the alpine amp mentiond is capable of running loads of subs. cnt go wrong with it really.

its the RMS im sure : ]

cheers for all the input, it is much appreciated.

don't want my stuff blowing up or some crap like that lol

consider a power cap too. i have 2 800w subs running of a 1000w amp and if i didn't my battery would die the moment my headunit came on. but for small watts it shouldn't matter, depends on the amp you get. but a power cap can never hurt

Ignore any values that are Max or Peak... RMS is the important value and ohm impedence!!!

So the values you have stated here are Peak values!!!

^^ think he sed they wer RMS but hes unsure..
he wont need a power cap if hes running 1 amp tho either.

Whats wrong with JBL figures?

They quote far higher wattage values than what they actually kick out mate...

Theres not many companies that actually quote the correct figures of what the amp actually produces to be honest so don't be surprised when i say companies like JBL, Mutant, Fusion etc all quote higher than they actually produce.

Only companies like PG, Genesis, Audison, Alpines PDX Range, JL and some others actually state the true wattage figure, and you actually get a 'birth' sheet with the amp showing what it produced at the test centre handwritten out by a technician stating what figure it got on each channel.

yea even companies that do give a more realistic wattage figure still arnt goin to be spot on neway because amps lose roughly half power in heat. their max performance usually is alot less thn wot they state no matter wot companie it is..unless they take that into account aswel.

I would have to agree and disagree with you...

My mate has a JBL sub that is 1800W, but only 225W RMS...

I have a JBL sun that is 1200W, but 300W RMS...

I think it the iolder models only... My amp is 400W, but 240W RMS... So it has to be the older JBL stuff!!!

Older JBL stuff was actually not bad to be honest!

yeah the peak figures there are bloody high, i doubt even under laboratory conditions and on a particular song they will peak out at that sorta figure but still!

you pay £300 for a genesis amp that kicks out 2 x 30w RMS watts, that tells ya somet lol.

and believe me, that amp kicks!

what you really want to look at when looking at amps is the signal to noise ratio and thd and noise at rated output, all that bollocks shows just how efficent the amp is. The more efficient the amp is the less it has to work therefor the less watts it needs to drive.
