first point- halfords. everyone rips them and called them halfrauds. they do have chavvy bits and do try to sell you subs and neons when you wonder down that isle to go towards the bulbs.
but they are bloody useful and always have what i need from everything i need to refurb my alloys and carb cleaner to clean outmy throttle body. i dont work for them or bum them, i just appreciate how useful they are; and no one on here can say they havent bought something from there. was just a thought.
second point - i hate chavs, the proper ones. and in my opinion, the definition of a chav is a 1.1 saxo with lexus lights and a sunstrip. so why do 106 owners bring theirs down with lexus lights? m3 or zr style rear lights are ok. lexus lights just ruin the back end.
thats my opinion, but dont bite my head off cos its each to their own.
sorry for the rant but you wouldnt be in the rant section otherwise. joe

I like my Lexus lights. Don't think they are chavy providing you haven't stuck a stupid body kit on the car or gone over the top with mods. At the end of the day its the individuals opinion :)

but they are bloody useful
You've obviously not tried to get them to check what filter a R5GTT is and then try to explain its not for a R5 its for a cinq, and no they wont have a cinq turbo on their books.... and then refused to tell me the R5 filter code and kept just telling me the cinq one... that was a fun day :D

Or "No, (wheel manufacturer) don't make these wheels in a peugeot offset, you'll have to fit 15mm spacers at least"
Me. "Yes they do. I have been onto their website and asked specifically for this offset"
H "They don't make them"
Me. "So the manufacturers were wrong about their own product?"
H. "They must be. They don't make them in that offset"
Me. " OK. Fine. I'll go to Motorworld where they have already quoted me a lower price than you advertise for the correct offset but are further for me to drive."
H. "Oh, just let me look into it some more and I'll find out"
Me. "No. I'm going to take my business elsewhere from now on"
That guy really irritated me. He blatantly didn't know his product and treated me like an eejit. I will NOT be going back to that branch again. They were useful for the 3 for 2 cleaning products and a few other bits though.
I appreciate that most stores try but at the end of the day they will supply what the customers are asking for and a lot of people were wanting the lexus style lights. Not me though. Ever.
Sorry for the essay!!
LOL - Halfrauds do rip you off! I still use them though, as they usually have all the stuff I need :D
They do also have some good offers on sometimes, such as the 3 for 2 on all cleaning products :D

I don't mind them, but some products are way too over priced... For example wheels and tyres!!!
GhostWKD

tip wheels and tyres when they have their special offer set, ask for a price without the fitment kit ;) mate of mine got over 100 off for missing out on fitment kit lol :D

1. there overpriced
2. they mix you good paint
3. they have any simple thing you'll need - bulbs, wipers, wiring
4. they have millions of products
i do call them halfrauds however yes they are good, but not as good as ebay ;)
lexus lights - dont know where to start lol

Lexus lights should be banned i really dont like them lol.
Halfords can be alright if you need a small thing like a number plate bulb or any bulbs in general and other small things etc.
But on other things they are overpriced and i wouldnt go there for expensive things, id rather shop around but they are there when needed and the opening times are good just incase i need something last minute.

Whats the deal with the dissing of lexus lights? I think they look really cool (at night) however i do agree during the day they tend to look shit!
I am intending to revert back to my standard lights but i cant get the small P21 5W bulbs to work on either side (bottom of the cluster in the middle) the rest of the bulbs work fine. whats happened? do they run on a differnt fuse that may have gone? sorry to hijack this thread but ive spent the whole of my only day of trying to sort this little bloody bulb out but to no avail.:(

(I work at Halfords, make of that what you will when you read my post)
Halfords varies a hell of alot between stores. I.E my shop at home, Team Valley (Gateshead) can pretty much sort you out with anything you like, even things that aren't stocked but have contact with a suitable distributor. As for tyre prices, they don't do the biggest range but Toyo T1S and Yokohama A539 tyres are cheaper than the internet prices, and you don't pay postage. However these aren't available from the other halfords I work at (when at uni) which is a very small shop near Hillsborough in Sheffield. At this store they don't really do much in the way of performance/styling and everything is special order.
As for expensive, unless you have a trade card parts etc aren't the cheapest but for wheels etc if you tell the staff member serving you that you have found it cheaper (within 20miles) you cant normally get a price match (depending on stock, what tyres etc). Oh and my powerflex engine mount was cheaper than ebay before discount lol.
Sorry for a bit of a rant but get sick of people whinging all the time lol. End of the day its a big company with larger overheads than internet/mail order and the main market for halfords at the minute is sat nav which is same price as every other shop (plus price match anyway, within 20miles). Just think about what you are buying and shop around, its like everything, there isn't one parts supplier that is cheap for everything :)

Good
1. Loads of range
2. Paints!!
BAD
1. i'm currently hating my local halfords, there trying to get you te get an MBNA halfords card, there's abotu 4 salesmen wandering round pestering anyone who isn't already leaving the store, 4 times this month i've gone just for a look and get some paint and everytime the same salesman has pestered me, i'm inches away from cracking him and putting him in a sub box!
2. overpriced everything is between 10 and 20% more than my local motorworld, which is 2 min up the road and i know people who work there so i get discount of 10%
3.Staff most of the staff are school leavers i mean 16 year olds who obviously can't drive and probably don't have any idea what goes in a car
(eg me="do you have a induction kit for a 106 1.1" hW="a what? whats that do? i'll just ask john he knows cars" what the hell does that tell you!!) and the oldest person i say was 23 i know the guy and he don't know cars, other than the flattest dash to roll a special cig on is in a metro! theres only ever 5 people in york road 2 16-17yr old lasses on the tills who are always chatting, the guy i know,a greasy haired 16 lad (the idiot mentioned above) and a tall guy who might actually be about 20-23 and does seem to know cars.
there used to be older people who had been there years who worked there and were realy really helpful but i haven't seem any of them in months some for years, i suppose i could be randomly going in on the decent employes days off but if i am the jesus the manager needs a better rota
sorry for the rant if you work for halfords but York Road Leeds is shit and has been for awhile but on a good note theres a really nice 206 outside most days i think it must be the "good" employees car

halfords are very usefull, sometimes expensive but i know i can get stuff from there. the cleaning offers are good aswell.
lexus lights, no i dont really like them but if you are judging a person by what lights they have on their car then you are pretty shallow!
joe106gti
28-06-2007, 04:21 PM
i dont judge people on their lights, just chavs tend to have lexus lights. but i know some major petrol heads and mechanics that love lexus lights. as i said, down to personal taste and 'to each his own'
and depends on the store for halfors, mine in market habrorough is tip top, i know a couple of guys in there now and they know there stuff, really nice mk2 golf there too!

same here loved luxarse lights thought they were the dogs bollocks but times change, now i'd rather put some actual dogs bollocks on the back of my car
I used to work at Halfords in the Ripspeed section and yes they do sell shite and yes they do over price their crap but it does come in handy if you cant wait for mail order goodies i guess.
As for the light debate well its each to their own i beleive, i mean on a standard car with just the lights and the lights only well im afraid they look terrible just looks like a token jesture on 1.1 or something!!
I have a set on my Gti not because i want to follow others but because i feel they suit my car, simple!!

i know this is a old thread, but in halfords i bought 250ml of thinners for like a 5er, then went to a paint shop nearby and bought 5 liters for about 6 quid!
i will admit that my 1.1 was a chaved up, and after i few months i hated it. i seen the light!
and halfords are usefull

Dont get me started on halfords!!
They are a pain in the arse!
Thought id treat my old car to some new alloys frm them, 560 with tyre upgrades(A fookin lota moneh).
They finaly came, took em home...one was poped n deflated!
Took it back
Weeks past and i really needed em coz i had illegal tyres on my old'n
Took it home and it was 1 inch too big!!!
Then took that back and went mad, few weeks later i got the right set!
So if u want to pay over the odds for alloys and wait about a month then halfords is the place to buy from lol
I did manage to get 20% off and £100 voucher so it didnt work out too bad!
