hey everyone, i was wondering if anyone could give me some help regarding the fitment of a 4-2-1 manifold to a 2001 Quiksilver.

i hear it involves some fiddling and moving of the oil filter etc but dont want to start it until i am fully prepared lol.

also, is there any chance a rallye inlet manifold will fit? been after one but lately have been told that it wont fit for some reason...

cheers guys,

Andrew

The decat manifold is awkward, miltek do one for your engine (can find em on ebay), its the one i plan to buy for mine but its near on £300, there are others but i dnt know off the top of my head, think ive seen janspeed advertising one in performance gti mag. You can fit a manifold intended for earlier engine but it means relocating oil filter, chap on here called fuzzy has done this hell be able to tell you more.

As for the rallye inlet mani, i was told that i would need to drill and thread the engine block in a diff place to get it to fit, thats on top of the regular alterations needed for tu engine. I wanted one but have gone off the idea cos standard they sell for 150 to 200, then it needs modding. Modded one on ebay went for 280 recently.

Hope this helps

you dont need a special manifold you can fit a normal aftermarket one

all you need to do is drill and tap a hole after u remove the oil filter housing u will know which one it is once u remove it and goto pug and buy a threaded sleeve and screw it into the bloac and then fit a old style oil filter en fit the manifold and your sorted.

Ok but is a cat manifold the same size as the manifold where the cat is under car?

I always thought it was like this http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e341/nickdirtyd/zorst.jpg

am i wrong?

LOL Bit to the point and harsh Rich..

I'll make a drawing up thats more accurate...

There ya go

So you can see if you take the manifold off and then the downpipe/cat off and then fit an old style manifold and downpipe

They will meet up with your center section - but you will then have no cat :D

What I've done is fitted a 4-2-1 raceland manifold (by moving the oil filter) then sold my exhaust system and bought a cat back scorpion group N exhaust

Then I bought a second hand gti cat - so have completely converted to the older style system

Fitting the manifold involved buying a lambda cover from GMC which will allow you to put your 2nd lambda in a sleeve and hide it in the engine bay. Routing the first lambda onto the hole in the raceland. Removing the oil system on the front of the block and fitting an old style filter (which you have to buy a £4 threaded section from pug to do) and blocking one little hole off

I did it in a day - and I removed my radiator, bumper, lights and slam panel for easier access :)

Sorry I haven't got round to writing a DIY guide yet but all my pics are on www.fuzzy-orange.com/gallery/ under the "My Car" section

Ok cheers fuzz, i think im gonna just go with the miltek still ::) saves the hassle then at least if i cant get mate to do MOT putting the cat back on will be str8 forward.

Also does the fact that my ecu has 3 leads and plugs make it the triple plug ecu?

Pic A should be the 3 plug ecu as that clearly shows the cat in the manifold, cat b shows cat under so is single plug.

Ok cheers :)

pug couldnt make it straight forward could they ::)

Sorry I've labelled them wrong - was rushing about a bit at work LOL

I'll fix it now...

A guy on rallye register bought a milltek and it snapped after 6 months :(

Ive got a normal Miltek 4-2-1 for mine, Phil is your exhaust cat back or decat when you did your power run?

Cat back mate ;)

GTi cat on mine, we kinda proved the point where I'm losing power now is the throttle body
The exhaust is flowing stupidly well but it cant get enough air through the throttle body

I ran with a VTS body for a few days as an experiment and gained another 6bhp - but couldnt get the idle control valve to work so it wouldnt tick over on idle

Gonna look into it again more in the future..
Kinda proves that bike bodies would give me a whole wedge more power though LOL

Thats great news to hear then about it being cat back keeps you a nice bit of torque.

Oh ai bike bodies are for the the win for sure, I will let you know how the VTR inlet experimentation goes as the body on that is a good bit bigger than the quiksilver one.

Yeah cheers mate - wanted to use it on mine but couldnt work out how to wire the idle control valve in

Lifetime guarantee though :P

About the throttle bodies, how much work and money is involved??

Theres currently some r6 tbs on ebay at £100

Im pretty sure i will be using a gmc manifold on mine when i get it running, it fits with the paper filter so that is the easiest way for me. It then uses standard early exhaust so i will be fitting a gti cat like fuzzy has and a cat back exhaust. I think they are around £250 though and it is a 1600 but i think they will be the same as 1400 fitment.

no point beating about the bush lol

Mat

I can see why you'd go down that route

But £120 for a raceland with proven performance, or £250 for a GMC that seems to produce less power

And for me it cost £4 for a threaded tube, £10 for an oil filter, £10 for a GMC lambda sleeve, and a few random screws and bolts i had laying around

So even with the £30 heat wrap it cost me £70 less than a GMC manifold :)

Its not a certainty, but say i was to buy all the necessary bits and bobs and a raceland mani.. If i did the 2 hour treck over to you with a case of your fave beer would you play nicely ?

Fuzzy Orange
28-01-2007, 10:41 AM
LOL Nice try mate but I'd want a bit more than a case of beer

Lights, bumper, rad, fans, slam panel all have to be removed
Then exhaust manifold and conversion to old oil filter system, then refit which means bleeding the whole coolant system

Its an entire days work really :(

Oh sorry fuzz, i under estimated the work involved, didn't mean to under value you :-\

LMAO its ok mate

Normally I'd say yes - dont mind helping fellow 106 owners but I'm really really busy recently with web work

Wont be affording it for a while anyway, wanna get car running *perfect first
