Hi Im new to this Forum!! :P

My names Rush, im 22 from the West Midlands.
Have owned my 106 GTi for nearly a year now, brought it 100% standard back in
February 2006. Have always wanted one, I used to own a Saxo VTR but smashed
this up in December 2004!! :'(

Live and learn I guess, I spent a whole year without a car between the two but
it was so worth the wait IMO.

Im usually on the PerformanceGTi forums and also a member of Sax-P so if you know
those Forums then you may know who I am.

Personally I really prefer the standard ones.
Decisions have now been made, I and going to have the headlight inserts of the standard lights
done Anthracite like my OZ wheels and the Pug badge and Rallye Inserts also done Anthracite.

Should all be done and fitted by FCS fingers crossed.

Car will be getting serviced soon (mid service was done, this is the yearly one) and also
will be treated to a new coilpack, new cambelt and a pugsport 2" !

Sorry I havent been on the site much of late. Been a bit busy with uni and
work.
Not a lot of progress with the car yet. Pugsport has been fitted and got the
ARB nuts greesed up. Pretty much it.

lights are now on my car, wernt in the best state but my mate has fixed em up and got them on the car and lined up on the mot tester, looking good now!

was the only illegal thing about them how they were lined up?

Thats the distgusting thing though, I received them in that state. Didnt realise
how bad they were until MOT time! Personally always tell people to stay
away from buying the angels, tis £100+ down the drain unless your prepared
for shite visability and crap build.
Just make sure you keep em in perfect working order bud.

Never said they were illegal mate, just said they wouldnt pass an MOT due to the alignment.
When I brought them it said E marked.

S2 Rallye intakes are being fitted,
headlights are being "smoked" as well as the Pug badge.

Then its a colorcoding and de-aerialing the car lol

Will eventually get a Supersprint manifold too and might change the 2"
Pugsport for a 3" one.

Lots of plans but not cash at the moment lol, but still fun and games.
Plenty pics to come dont worry.

Bit of news. Ive had the Magnex backbox fitted to the Pugsport downpipe.
Sounds nice and subtle again with a slight rasp. Still pops like a bitch which
is great.
Its sits much nicer with the bumper too which is great!!

Wheels go on this Saturday!!!

Another update guys, my old Magnex backbox has been refitted.
This time round its a much better fit then it used to be. Sorry if I
offend anyone but I prefer it soo much more than the Pugsport :p

Thanks for the positve comments guys, Ive never been so proud of the car!
Morettes is an idea, but they are just soo common on 106 GTis/Rallyes these
days. I need something fresh and new. Silver GTi badges No No! I hate them
will a passion lol.


A West Midlands meet was held this Sunday, so the car was cleaned up in
the morning ready for it. Turnout was a lot more than expected!
I had a great day as did my GF, probably the biggest organised meet Ive
ever been too.
Also one of my mates there gave me a hand with a single wiper conversion.
Hes a star!

Cheers Steve mate, Ive had mixed comments so far on the car. MOst people
like it and it does look soo good in person. But some people feel its a bit OTT.

Next on the list is anthracite Pug badge + anthracite Morettes.... Not sure
it its going to be a good move lol but Im just going for it. If it doesnt work it
will have to stay.

At the moment Steve mate u have the Black/Silver theme spot on! If it were

Ive had them fitted about 6 months now, its only now that Ive really given
them some stick!
They perform amazingly. The noise they make while slowing you down is amazing. Combined with braking with your gears its very scary stuff!

Got them from Rally Design. The site has changed slightly now so am not
sure which ones mine are. Either Midilite or lol the other one :p

Not too sure Ste mate, all I know is they work lol! :p Nothing wrong with

Small update, as I was getting annoyed with the whole dark and evil theme

sprayed up. My GF has started with some progress on her Fiesta Zetec S,
she has gone for White ZS wheels and its been dropped 40mm all round.

The LEDs? From Ebay mate. they are 4x white LEDs.

Type in white sidelights on the search and you should find them.

Hey everyone, have to apoligise for not being online much lately. Been at my
cousins house for the last 2 weeks and there is no internet there!!!!

Also the car has been causing me loads of grief which has taken up so much
of my time :mad:

Anyways, my 2 main issues were:
1 - rattling centre section (believed to be baffles loose)
2 - wheel nuts changed and catching on the hub of the discs (H&R spacers)


I ordered a brand new magnex to hopefully resolve the exhaust problem, cutting
a long story short, the magnex centre pipe was not the correct fitment!!! So
Im either returning it or selling it now. Good news was the garage were
able to find the cause of the rattling exhaust. Wasnt the baffles! There was
no fire ring fitted? :eek: Never heard of one of them before but there you go!


Now bare with me, heres the bolts story (well the solution to it!):

Here we have the bolt popping out of the wheel. Nothing unusual so far, what
I needed to do is measure how much thread was sticking out of the wheel.
Once I did that I would know how much of the thread sits in the spacer
when the bolt is tightened...

Used some spare card and pressed it against the thread to get an accurate
measure of how much thread stuck out. 25mm... Hmmm I also have 25mm
spacers, doesnt look promising...

Now this picture is important. You will notice 4 bolts already sitting in the
spacer and then 4 empty holes.
The 4 bolts are what hold the spacer onto the hub (going through the disc)
meaning that the other 4 holes are where the wheel bolts onto the spacer.

BUT!!!!
Think about it, the wheel bolt will not pass through the disc as the other
4 bolts in the picture pass through the disc. (only 4 holes in the centre of
the disc where the spacer has 8 holes in!)
Meaning that the bolts that pass through the wheel and spacer needs to be less than 25mm else it will be touching the centre of the disc.

Confused yet??

Final picture shows me placing the wheel bolt into the spacer, thats the
bolt tightened and touching the disc centre.
25mm spare thread and a 25mm spacer means MY BOLTS ARE TOO LONG.

Im lucky its only one spacer thats busted!!

New spacer has been ordered, and I now need another set of wheel bolts.
They need to be at least 3mm shorter than the current ones I will face
similar problems.

To say Ive hit a setback prior to FCS is a fcukin understatement. Hopefully
get it sorted by the next few weeks. Im just finally glad I got out there to
see it for myself.
Probably one of the most boring updates Ive made yet but hopefully it explains
thing a bit better than before, and it will help anyone that buys similar
spacers in the future. Great design, just get your nuts right.


Phew! If you dont get it I dont blame you tbh! Lots or random stuff there but
at least Ive explained myself now.

Some crazy reflections there from the other day.


My plans for FCS now are:
1 - fit lower strut brace (has been resprayed)
2 - fit anthracite rockers + new coil cover
3 - maybe fork out on a BMC
4 - colorcode front and rear bumper
5 - colorcode new boot lock and fit it
6 oh yea lol replace the broken wheel spacer!

So six things to get done and little time left!! Getting really exciting now. Not sure
if you guys know but I will be on track with the saxperience lot, should be a
great experience as Ive never been on track before. Hopefully my wheels dont
fly off in the action.

So its all really coming together now for FCS. Dont think the rockers will be

Thats about it really I think guys, the lower brace is going on this weekend
hopefully along with the replacement wheel spacer that arrived today.

Ive got a special purchase coming up tomorrow but its a bit of a secret

Think it will be the most expensive mod (not inc fitting) as of yet. So cant
wait to pick them up tomorrow. Its a 280 mile trek there and back for it
but it will be really worth it imo!!

Got the intakes from Pug (set me back bout £45) Got them colorcoded to
the wheels.

Fitting was using some super black glue stuff. Made a lot of mess but none
on the car. Being honest the way we fitted em it was very difficult. Had to
pack the glue round the back of the intake and press it from the back of
the bumper to make contact.... MISSION lol!

Well the special purchase guys didnt work out as planned at all. They were
a set of leather/carbon Cobra Misnaos. LOL they just wernt right for the
car and now have been sold.

FCS was a blast, especially on track. Was nice to meet a lot of people too.
Got loads more work to be done on the car in the next few months, mainly
involves fixing a few bits here and there and a few nice new parts.

Still a LOT of work to be done though!!

The new list involves:
1 - Fitting my new26mm ARB, so my 24mm standard one will be up for sale.
2 - My front passenger side wheel has been booked in for a tidy as the rim isnt perfect
3 - Aerial popped off, so either getting it smoothed out or getting a complete
new smooth roof without the sunroof
4 - Car will be treated to a full detail
5 - looking at some new discs and pads for the rear
6 - FINALLY start saving for some hardcore engine mods!!

Got cleaning while the sun was out, also gave the car a good polish and stuff. The car now gleams so much now when comparing it to when I first had it! So dead chuffed.

I saw something on DetailingWorld about cleaning the inside of your exhaust, mines pretty damn bad so I decided to give it a go:

Well I highly recommend the Sprintline shocks, thats what I have and they are amazing. Car felt soo good around the track.
Cant really comment on the Group N's but I imagine they are similar to the Sprintlines but
a bit more hard/tight?

Im using the standard Ventura springs provided with the Sprintline kit, reason for this is
cause Im not going to bother uprating torsion bars, so that way the springs nicely match
my standard torsion bar setup.

If I uprate to 21mm torsion bars (which I doubt I will) then I would uprate the springs
to the GMC ones, or get some custom poundage ones fitted. Depends on how stiff
the GMC springs are.

Problem is you want the parts to work with each other not against each other. My setup
is spot on for everyday use and small track abuse. Which is spot on for my needs mate.

Nah mate just way too busy. Your car looked sexy in PFCs btw Shaun.

There are loads of things to come, I already have a set of Anthracite rockers to fit
as well as all new bolts to replace the rusted ones.
But I wont do it all until I have my supersprint manifold, piper 285s, BMC (again lol) and
I also want the whole engine bay stripped and resprayed now cause of rust.

Its a lot of work but will be worth it.

yea they are lush mate, the body shop that does all my work also did these

Hehe glad you liked it mate.
Got a bit smashed the night before and totally forgot to take the
wax off.
Ended up getting the wax baked onto the car the next day, couldnt
get it off. It was such a mess, plus the car is covered in tree sap
now so clay barring is needed AGAIN!

Was a good day at Trax, seen loads of people I know from the forums,
but most of the day I was busy running round. Didnt get an change to
pop over to the 106 owners stand.

Bladdy hell, usually nobody posts in this thread no more. Well cheers for all the positive
comments. Trax was cool, had a right laugh the night before and the show was pretty
good.
Track time was great too, not as good as at FCS imo but was still amazing. Hit 115mph
on the clocks at one point. Such a damn buzz. My GF also went on track in her Fiesta
Zetec S, she had loads of fun too.

Mate, £200 is great for wilwoods! Just make sure they are the correct fit.

Since then things have been a bit weird with the cars, had some overheating
problems, noise from the rear brakes, just general stuff I didnt need. So I
was planning to sell it off and start fresh with something cheap and economical..

BUT, with the help of my uncle we overlooked each problem and, tbh
got it sorted! Cars running mint now! So Im well chuffed, selling it is
still on the cards perhaps. I will see how things go from now.

After being on track, Ive realised Buckets and Harnesses are needed to they will be
ordered soonish, so Im saying buy buy to the leathers now for sure.

And lets just say, after there "Engine Goodies" are finally on the way if all goes to plan

Its not looking its best by a long shot but its okay. Needs a full day of clay barring,
scrubbing and waxing tbh. But its a hell of a lot better than before.

The car is actually booked in now at Pug1off for most of that work in March.
So expect a huge update once I get the car back. Then it could be safe to say
that the cars done for now! :hug:

It does mate. Cars mostly dent free, think I have one minor on one of the front
wings. But there are so many areas where the paint isnt right. Needs some love!

Vents are colorcoded to match the wheels, dont have an exact color.

Mainly getting the boot and cage fitted, but there all sorts of other little bits

Trumpets wont arrive for a very long time now. With the flat and "some other stuff.." Ive
got way too much on. The car will be staying however!

Once Im finished at uni and fingers crossed I get my ideal job. Expect some big changes
under the bonnet and also a full rebuild of the bodywork/paintwork.

Its all plans at the moment, just gotta make it a reality now. Sorta Bic style but not as
friggin mental lol.

I dont drive it day to day usually. Mostly sits on the drive. Overused it in Winter which annoyed
me. Hence the bit clean.

Its quite noisey but the seats are really comfy. Being honest you enjoy it more the less you
drive it. Lots of fun!

It did with the standard black hosing from the TB, but with the red silicone stuff its perfect.

Its sitting ontop of the metal bracket that held the old air box in place. But the 2 jubilee
clips are holding it nice and tight in place. May look at getting the battery moved to the
rear at Pug1off too..

So yup, two very clean cars!
Not long after that was the night I also arranged to go for a lil B Road blast with a mate,
cause of Uni work and other stuff going on we never got chance b4. But that night
was the night..... :d
The roads were pretty slippy which is a damn shame, but it was an awesome
drive. I havent driven it that hard since Brands.
Managed to do a bit of damage though, ECU light wont come off lol! Anyways,

My mate has pretty big plans for the Celica, its only the 140bhp model and mine
seems to have the edge in a straight line and on corners currently. But give it
time and it will be a beast! Des Developments may even look into tuning it which
is pretty cool! I reckon 250bhp or more with cams and breathing mods!

Being honest Im really loosing faith in the guys I use. They used to be the bomb
but Ive noticed a lot of slacking in there work. And there not exactly cheap either.

The bumper strips were done by another bodyshop in Leciester, but they
quality of the finish was pretty bad (well not up to my standards)

Pug1off will be doing my cage and possibly my boot floor. I will get pics up of
it done when its back. I reckon they will do a mint job of it.

Other than that Willsy off saxp used a place in Coventry I think. Ive seen loads
of samples of his work and it seems really good. LeeVTRs car is going in soon
for a full respray so keep your eyes pealed for that when it comes out.


I can give you the number for the one I use, but I wouldnt "strongly" recommend them.. I will get a thread up actually of the bits they fcuked up
in the coming weeks lol.

Cheers matey, its worth getting rid of dents imo, but with paintwork you will
always get imperfections. Its one of the reasons why I cant be arsed with sorting
it out any more.

Trust me the paintwork upclose is bad (front end is full of stonechips).

Dont really like the look of debadging, want the body to be as standard as
possible. Just tidy up the edges like.

if you plan to keep it a while then get it done mate. But thing is you really
never know whats round the corner. People really cant drive on todays roads.
Id hate to get mine resprayed then smashed into.
Check a few pages back, a daft bint went into me duffing my rear 1/4.

Me personally I reckon I would have had my bodies running about 170bhp if I
didnt move out. The spec was ideally Omex management, Jenvey bodies,
and the headwork carried out by Des Developments. Unfortunatly moving out
was priority. Me and the missus are happier than ever now. Just a shame that
the progress was slowed right down cause of it.. :eek:

Have you sprayed any of the anthracite stuff yourself or has it been done at the bodyshop? like your fog inserts and rockers?

What and where did you get the paint?

Its 40mm front and 50mm rear but Im gonna drop it to 50mm front and 60 rear as its sitting
a bit higher now after stripping it.

Im running Bilstien shocks and polybushes all round.

TBH I had the bits done at various stages. Paid quite a bit for the torsion bars
to be done correctly. But was money well spent as I've had no issues (touch wood)

Polybushes were quite pricy to fit too I think.

Cheers mate, there 25mm (but they arent your regular ones!)

They lock onto the hub with 4 bolts, then you use your regular sized wheel
bolts to bolt the wheel into the spacer only.

Hard to explain but its very safe. Ideal for fast road cars etc etc.

Still no news from Pug1off but IM sure its gotta be very close now.

Cage has been prep'ed and sprayed, there fitting it now I think.


Got a huge list before FCS, includes:
1 - fit 50mm front springs and torsion bar adjusted to 60mm
2 - remove dent in passenger front wing
3 - full Porter Cable treatment
4 - re-refrub two wheels (slight kerbing)
5 - fit brand new Toyo's
6 - need new carbon OZ centre caps
7 - buff front windscreen (the little scratches annoy me)

Should be very pleased with the car once thats lots sorted

During Summer Ive finally decided on an engine Spec I want:
1 - catcams 708s, new belt
2 - Omex 600 or Emerald ECU (pug1off's choice)
3 - gas flowed head
4 - forged pistons
5 - oil cooler
6 - catch tank
7 - L+B flywheel, possible gearing adjustments/strengtheningAs well as that lot Im looking to get a full Carbon Fibre roof from bic painted
and fitted and some group N top mounts and engine mounts.

Officially after that lots done I will stop. Okay maybe cut bits out the dash
(bit of DIY) but seriously no more.... :eek:

Cheers guys, well it was originally the rear half of a Full Safety Devices Cage, I decided not
to bether with the front legs as Its not a full on track car. So the front weld positons have
been smoothed over and moved. And they have added a harnesses bar to it.

I think the cage was in for spraying Liam two days ago, so should be properly fitted soon.

Yea no worries Mr B! Would be cool to catch up before FCS.

Its just a fast road car for my own personal use :confused:

Got plans for the dash to be cut up (rather than removing it) same time the
CF roof goes on and the cams are fitted. Really really looking forward to that!

Still not too sure on the bodies, definatly going Jenvey/Omex. Bodies wont be done till

Strengthened box (mess with ratios most likely too)

Cheers guys, it nice to get good feedback after ploughing so much work into it. Eventually
theres going to be a full respray Seph dude. The entire outside, inside, inc seam welding
the chasis (something to research into) including welding the half cage in.

At the moment though it will stay as it is.

The list really consists of:
1 - engine work
2 - bit of final retrimming
3 - that Carbon Fibre roof (dribble!!)
4 - suspension overview

Being honest thats all I have on my mind so far!
