okay, this is my first post here and i am the owner of a 1996 p reg cherry red 106 which has been nicknamed by freinds as sheila, which is old and tired with a massive 116 thousand miles on the clock, the car soilders on and i rarely have any problems with it and its fun to drive and i can even rape my m8s new citreon c2 in it. Anyway i really try to look after her nd help her run for as long as she can even though im not mechanically minded, however in the past few days sheila has started to rattle, really bad so i took it to kwick fit yesterday and he said it was my cat converter and quoted me 160 pounds and said he could do it right then but im a student and havent got that kind of cash, do you think im being ripped off by kwik fit nd cud get it cheaper at another garage and also my m8 hu is quite mechanically minded said hed help me fit it and they can be bought for 50 pounds online. Is it really hard to do???? whats my best option

thanks james

Your cheapest option is to do it yourself, (gettin your mate to do it!), makin sure you seal the joints up properly, but also i'd get it looked at by another garage to make sure thats definately the problem.
Nothing against Kwikfit, but i'd always get a second or third opinion before doing anything.

It should just be bolted on with clamps. When you replace it you need to make sure you put enough sealant on the joins so theres no leaks, otherwise it'll be blowing rather than rattling!

I'm sure if i'm wrong someone will correct me..

Where's the rattling coming from? Is there anything that you do that makes it rattle?

Can you replicate the rattle by wiggling the exhaust whilst the car isn't started?

i have to laugh at the way that was written, sorry.

dont ever go to kwik fit, they havent got a fucking clue.

go to a scrapyard see how much they want for an exhaust system or something? could just be the exhaust hangers
