its 3 in the morning, ive had an interesting night.

right my car has had problems since day one and has never been right but ive tried to love it no matter what but now i hate it.

tonight on the way home down some very VERY scary country lanes i noticed my battery light was on. hmm faulty altonator i thought.

then it went off. ok nevermind. it then came back on. then the engine management light, then the oil light, then the air bag light, then the dials went completely, then the light went of totally. so i thought s*** what do i do. carried on as i was almost home then the car started to struggle. i heard a bang and thats it, cars dead.

i then waited in a road where i cant see two foot in front of me for a mate to tow me home.

now im hoping its just my altonator thats gone hence why the car just died. but i also think its the dreaded head gasket.

any idease please??

cheers max

alternator/battery has to be the first check. Usual check all the connectors are there are as where they should be and see if it is charging and hte batt is holding the charge.

Check the state of the oil from the dip stick, as if the hg has went I think there is meant to show on the dip stick iirc, also see if any mayo on the filler cap.

could the bang of been the car backfiring? might sound sily but im sure ive read somewhere that the lack of power makes the car misfire

check the battery earth cable. They break where they join the gearbox.
Gives the same symptoms as alty failure.
