View Full Version : Trac-prep - fast road & track preperation
trac-prep specialises in 106 & saxo fast road and track preparation in perth, scotland.
At the moment they are in the process building up a customer base so work is carried out is at nights in their spare time which may suit most scottish members here and is classed as homers, at the moment, with prices to suit.
Their workmanship is top notch and they believe they can, in the very near future, make this fulltime while providing good workmanship at the fraction of competitors prices, but with every business it just about doing the advertising, getting the customers in & making a good name for yourself then take it from there.
The guys doing the work are fully qualified bmw/merc technicians so are used to carrying out work to a high standard.
They can carry out any work on 106/saxo from lowering torsion bar to full turbo conversion! At the moment the work getting carrying out on customer cars is -:
'98 106 gti 1.6 16v turbo & MF2 (low boost)
'03 106 gti 1.6 16v turbo & KMS (high boost)
'00 saxo vts stage3 with jenveys & DTA
They have not long finished my car and a few of you have seen it go round knockhill and its fair to say it aint slow and i am very pleased with the end result! The guys running it dont really have the time to be on computer and answer emails etc due to getting cars ready and finished and working long days but if you require some work to be done then drop me a pm with your number and the work that you are requiring to be done then ill get them to give you a call.
thanks

Well, what can I say about these guys?
Arrived Friday night after taking a few wrong turns and to say I was surprised was an under-statement. I was half expecting to leave my car on someone’s drive but no; they have a lockup fully kitted out with everything you would expect to see at a garage. They have more spare parts then Peugeot themselves I think!!
Anyway, after a wee tour of the place and shown some of the projects they have on the go I left them the car and the keys and was very kindly given a lift to the train station in a standard GTi-6....haha yea right!!
Gets a call late Friday night, they had come across a pretty major problem. One of my pulley's teeth had sheered off and had been rattling about inside the timing belt casing taking chunks out of my belt! He basically said leave it with him and he would sort it. What more could I ask for?
Come Saturday night I get another call letting me know of another problem. Some cowboy mechanic had bodged together some mix matching bolts to hold my caliper to the hub thus sheering the thread from the hub itself. Yet again he said he would sort it.
Sunday morning comes, and I get a text saying he is having a bit of trouble wiring up the Dastek. The Dastek wiring wasn’t matching up to that on the Diagram so he didn’t want to risk wiring the rest up. So he wired about 60% of it up and very neatly tucked it under my OE ECU. I went up at around 2pm on the Sunday to collect it and to say I was happy was an understatement!! Everything was as good as perfect. Their attention to detail is second to none as well.
Initial work being done was – Change rear beam, Put on my 708’s, fit 266mm setup & braided hoses and wire in Dastek but due to the problems encountered they also changed my pulleys with new belts and a new driver side hub. They also sorted out some other bits and bobs for me. I had sheered a bolt on one of my top mounts so they kindly changed that, my induction piping was all cracked so they put new piping on for me, my coil cover pack was broken and a mess so they put a new one on for me and likewise with my cam covers.
So basically a lot of work for less than 2 full days.
Your probably wondering how much it cost me. Well let’s just say a hell of a lot less than anywhere else in the country and the workmanship is probably better.
I will be using these guys for everything motor related from now on, they really know their stuff and are a great bunch of guys. TBH the cars they are building at the moment speak for themselves, along with the quality of the work done to my car.
Keep up the good work guys!!

Thought id better add my own experince of Trac Prep
Well i phoned up Grant at Trac Prep on the tuesday telling him i would be dropping off the car the next day. So on wed me and my dad set off at 6pm. Knowing my way round perth pretty well, i knew how to get to where we had arranged to meet, behind the BMW dealership where he works.
Once we arrived at BMW i saw a black GTI with 'Trac Prep' stickers on the rear windows, assuming it was grant to show me where 2 go. Stupidly i followed(or tried to) this GTI it pings away at the round about and was gone. So loosing the GTI after half a mile i gave up and went back to BMW only to find a white Tranny van there. It was grant:rolleyes: then following Grant thru the housing area of perth. We turn into the lockup, looking at the building i wasnt sure what to expect. Then Grant opens a huge grey door 2 show me where the quiky will be living for its time at Trac Prep
Nice secure lock up, with ramps, lil office, loads and loads of tools!! and of course some sexy pugs. Then that black GTI turned up, it was a customer/mate of Trac prep just happend to be TURBO'd:cool:. After a wi tour and being showed my new GTI brakes and looking at some sexy 205 wheels(which i end up taking aswell) Also adding ECU cover and some ISO plugs 2 my list. Then we left feeling happy my car was in safe hands:D
I phoned up every couple of days to see how things were going, but being pretty 'simple' job there was none.
I picked up the car the following monday(1 day earlier than we had arranged but this was no prob)
The work i got done was GTI front brakes, GTI rear axle and brakes, New pads and discs all round, all the piping for the brakes,Lowered 80mm rear and 60mm front,205 wheels and new tyres. Grant also replaced a drop link, ECU cover and new ISO plugs where chucked in for free and most of the tyres i was given he bought brand new.
Once again like easty said they did all this work for a LOT cheaper than most places. But not skimping on the quality at all
Cant recomend this place enough the guys really put themselves out there to make sure your car comes back better than u can imagine

He doesnt like to give out his number and getting any old numptys phoning who have £1k and expect a turbo`d gti for that! He is to busy for that nonsense. What work is it you are looking for?
Spoke To You Before About Getin Work Done..
yeah u did mate. i asked u what money limit u had and u said that u were going to save up. as stated they are very busy and most questions that people have can be answered by me. as u can imagine they r busy with projects and customers cars and its easier for both people involved doing it by pm's then once we have an idea of what work u want done and what money limit u have then can get one of the guys to phone u. hope this doesnt offend people but as people can understand u do get a lot of timewasters if number is just handed out.
thanks
