I'm thinkn of cuttin my cat out, and just puttin a bit of pipe in it's place.

Will it be as easy as it sounds, aslong as i leave enough pipe either side of the cat (for replacing it for MOT's), or will it be awkward and cause me loads of grief?

Also, will it make much of a difference?...

i just got a decat pipe with my new system, i think aslong as you cut it correctly so it will be easy enough to put bak on for mot shouldnt be too much hassle. i find the car a lot more responsive now its decat.

Cool, sounds like a definate maybe so far...

I'd like to do it. My only worry is that my exhaust is loud enough as it is, (gives me headaches!), but when i take the cat out i reckon it might get louder!!!

I'm gonna speak to my mate 2morrow to see if he fancies makin me a de-cat pipe and cuttin the cat out...

i ahve decat on my 1.1 . rersponse is really improved , but it does make a hell of alot mre noise. even less restriction in the exhaust you see. if you take it out try and look through the cat when holding it up to the sunlight . youd be amazed at how much it must choke your engine.

I'm running decat, its not that its really noisier, its that it gives your exhaust note some rip!

If you are doing this, make sure you make it as simple as possible to change over for MOT, unlike my pipe. Its going to be a bitch .

Cheers guys, sorry, i've just got online!

I'm goin for it! I've arranged it with my mate that he does it after it's been for it's MOT!
He's gonna cut it so that i can put it back on easily when the MOT comes round again!

Can't wait to get her back! It's going in for it's MOT on Tuesday, so i'll hopefully have it back by Wednesday!

I don't care if it's noisier, i've decided.. As long it's better in performance i don't care about extra noise!

Quick question though guys... Does it change the exhaust tone/note?..

just get a supersprint center section off kam racing then u just swap the center section back to the standard one with the cat in it for your mot

I've just been looking on kam racing site, they've got a 4-2-1 manifold on there. Without membership on here it's £246.37, and with membership it's £110!!!

Has anyone else got one of these on they're 1.1? What's it like, and would you recommend it?.

Erm can't remeber who Iirc unreal has a 4-2-1 and other mods he is getting around 70/75Bhp.

I suppose that's quite a decent increase. I'm not sure what bhp mine is at the moment, but i'm fittin a de-cat pipe, and i'm thinkin about gettin the 4-2-1 manifold aswell..
Should make for a little power increase..

Does anyone know roughly what sort of bhp/power increase i'd be lookin at with...
PiperX Induction filter, De-cat Pipe with Stainless powerflow exhaust?...
I know they're 60bhp standard, but mine just feels like it's got more..

if it all goes well you can hope for over 70hp, so should handle standard quiksilvers, bit of pointless info here: in the cat there is a footy pitch size amount of metal, gives you some idea of how restrictive it is!

Yeah a football pitch at 2 nm thick...

If i had time to pull it all out, i might see if your right!

Not long now and i should be able to find out how much power i got!..

Umm, doubt that somehow mate. If its the Raceland one, its £140 without membership lol.

i just need a manifold now lol but im thinking of the noise level

Jayjay2580
30-06-2008, 08:32 PM
That's what i'm worried about, coz my head starts to hurt after half hour at the moment, let alone with the de-cat and manifold!

The manifold will have to wait till i can afford it though!..

yer the only engine work mine has got done to it is the exhaust with de-cat and a green cotton induction kit (if ya class that as engine) and its loud really loud

Jayjay2580

My exhaust was bad before, but i'm having de-cat pipe made up for me while it's in the garage, so it's gonna be quite different.
Should be back end of next week, so i'll let everyone know!.

u said ur head hurts after half an hour!? im guessing thats "enthusiastic" driving lol? have u removed all the sound proofing? cos that must b loud!

Jayjay2580
30-06-2008, 10:32 PM
It's just got that kind of sound to it, but yeah it is from driving like a loony! I just can't help it.
I drive a van all day at work and it handles about aswell as a horse on ice. When i get in my car i can pretty much go flat out round any bend or twist and it just turns. Not a question, it just does it. Plus mine hasn't got powersteering, so i actually feel like i'm doin somethin!

I got a powerflow exhaust, and told them that i didn't want it too loud, but so you could hear it.
When i first drove it after it was fitted it was perfect! Exactly what i wanted. Unfortunately for my ears, it wore in and got alot louder!!!

Never mind, it makes it sound faster then it is, so it's all good!!.

i want to decat my 1.1, but were will my cat be? will it be in the centre section or on the manifold? i keep meening to look but jus keep forgetting, i have a 1997 1.1 independance.

97 I think it'll be underneath mate. :) Still worth checking though.

It should be in the same place as mine. Mine is joined to the manifold and it's part of the frony section pipe.
It's right at the front end of the exhaust as you look underneath the car.
I wouldn't have thought that it's the easiest to do yourself as the pipe that comes off of the cat bends straight after it comes out to the manifold pretty much.
Kam Racing do a de-cat pipe that fits straight in..

so is my cat at the manifold end on the centre pipe? just about under the front seats? had a look and it looks like it, jus make sure tho lol

yea it should be at the end of the mani. you can see the join which is held by two spring bolts. the actualy cat is a squared oval shape if you get me, and youl be able to see where it is joint ot the centre pipe if you follow it down. il hopefully be putting my decat in tomorrow so il try and get a few pics.

yes please do so, and i may make one at college, start soon doin mechanics and they have pipe bending machines and the lot lol, so on dinner i myt ask if i can make one lol

just buy a GTi decat from ebay or people on here. i got mine off here. i think. you may find you need another lambda sensor as some of the newer GTi decats have a second lambda sensor at the end of the pipe so check. cost me £35 delivered. but ye il see if i can get it done tomorrow

does de-catting it make that much more of a difference??
If you want it to be louder, rip the mid box out, that way the exhaust starts popping Lol

I've been told it makes a difference, if only a little bit on a 1.1.
I don't want it to make it louder, well hopefully anyway, just a little bit faster on acceleration.

1.1's don't have a centre box either, well mine doesn't anyway??..

i think decatting will make it more pokey on the throttle ie increase response, but nothing more than a few bhp gains if that. just down to increased air flow. its like going from breathing through a straw to breathing through a kitchen roll tube. but ye the exhaust will get louder and can pop in some cases. my exhaust got a lot louder today just from filling up with vpower and adding a bottle of octane booster. just thought id give it a try :D

and i think the 1.1s do have a centre 'box' but i think its called a middle silencer or sumin. a centre piece from kam racing sorts that out though.
