View Full Version : FCS 2008 - My thoughts

Firstly, had an absolutely cracking weekend

We went down to the hotel where the frenchsport tuning lads were staying
Couldnt have asked for better company :)

Saturday night I ended up a little more drunk than I originally planned, but brilliant laugh

The show was a good one, definatly better than last year

However the 2 main problems with rockingham were still apparent this year

1) The parking

http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii44/rallyesam/DSC_0474.jpg

Look at our stand - 150 cars in an area big enough for 100
Rallye register got arsey with us because we kept using their space

Look to the right of the photo at the area the 306 lot got

They had 1 row of cars and enough space for another 3 rows

Im afraid to say that FCS organisers need to start looking at the size of areas and the amount of cars, our stand ended up looking like a cruise at asda, but it was a miracle we actually got everyone parked without turning people back to the car park!!

2) Trade stands

Just awful. I had a pocket full of cash again this year and apart from seeing bic at streamline carbon, I couldnt find anything to spend money on at all
The whole area was huge with nothing worthwhile in it :(

Im not a great fan of 106parts and ybracing, but if they'd been there with a van full of strut braces and bits and bobs it would have at least been something worth walking too

---

Anyway enough of the downsides, the people there were amazing, all really friendly and the quality of cars on our stand was superb

The track session was a little bit scary and I heard a lot of other clubs saying that our session looked like an accident waiting to happen, which was dissapointing. But it was also a first for a lot of us and im sure there will be many many more in the future

Stayed down there again last night to relax afterwards and only just got back late on tonight.

Thankyou to everyone who came, it really was a stunning sight to see that amount of 106's in one place even if it was a small area to be in :)

I hope you all make it to our national day at york in August :D

Oh yes and the merchandise that was there on the day (t-shirts and tax disc holders) will be up on the club shop tomorrow ;)

just looks like a car park from that pic tbh

when i last went a few years back there was loads of stands and loads of space to look round cars etc,was in 05 i last went tho

still gutted i missed it,would have been good to catch up with a few people if nothing else

It could have looked sooo much better

Rallye register made a nice little layout with the few cars they had

We started in the morning organising people into a fancy layout with enough room to walk around, but rapidly realised 150+ cars werent gonna fit in that space, so everyone just ended up wing mirror to wing mirror :(

106owners merchandise was on sale?!

where? if i saw that i might have been able to offload some money i had burning a hole in my pocket!

Fuzzy Orange
23-06-2008, 11:52 PM
Unfortunatly mate the original idea was a giant marquee with tables and chairs inside where we could all chat and I could flog some bits and pieces

But because we had an area half of what we needed we couldnt put the marquee up and all the merchandise ended up being sold out of my boot! :(

Did you see how much fucking space Clio clubs had? It was ridiculous. FCS need to get their fucking arses in to gear. There was half the amount of people there this year, then there was last year and I reckon it will half again next year.

leeds106
24-06-2008, 12:00 AM
yeah i agree the numbers we had coming i think should have made the organisers look at moving us to our own section rather than sharing

but now they know we are a major player i hope this wont happen next year :)

LOL yes I think you have Leah and Shell to thank for that - even though they are getting slagged off on the rallye register for not moving you when asked LOL

if i recall fcs is in conjunction with renault so the renault clubs get a major space to fill

KayMarie
24-06-2008, 12:09 AM
That would explain the Renault theme then.

chiddy0407
24-06-2008, 12:10 AM
and renault got tarmac! arseholes lol they were a fookin mile off the rest of the cars though, even fully fenced off, what was the crack with that!

bit miffed i missed the merchandise tbh, what was being sold? i would have taken a polo shirt or even a hoody due to the wind haha

PGAC are major players in it 2, Mark is the main organiser(pretty mammoth job TBH) 106oc being a young club wont be given much royaltys

but should next year after that amazing turn out, i can just see where my lil blue baby would have gone

I thought it was a top weekend. Big thanks to the NW convoy for waiting for me to catch up at every services:)

The drive to Pizza hut was quite funny, Satnav woman took us to T junction telling us to go straight on, through a set of bollards and over bridge that was no less than a pubes width lol met quite a few folk, Shaun is a cool Mofo:D Greeted me with 'its the big man' haha. Mark is a legend too, taking me out i the 8v monster. Rallye James and Rich are cool as well, probably the only two people who i actually spoke to properly:)

Trade area was a bit shite, Compomotive wernt there so i couldnt spend loads of money with em, probably a good thing to be honest.

Split up with the girlfriend on the way home like, not best impressed like:( but nonetheless a top weekend

Oh and the Rallye performs well 'it may be a slow and a piece of shit' to some people but its mine and im proud

French Car Show? More like Renault Owners Day... The amount of space near the Renault boys was a joke. The 'dust bowl' aka the gravel car park for clubs need to be evaluted again as well. Surely the shows most important people are the clubs themselves?

I also had a few hundred pounds burning a whole in my pocket with absolutely nothing to spend it on which was disappointing.

Saturday night was mint! Got talking to loads of the Northern lot, and a few of the Southern lot (cause there wasn't many southerners in our hotel) and had an awesome laugh, only regret is not coming over to you lot earlier, instead I sat and watched the footy:rolleyes: lol.
The show I thought was quite good, sorry to anyone who I had a go at in the morning, I had to move my car 4 times at a time when Im used to going to bed, not being up for the day. :o
Think quite a few people know I was pissed off with my performance on track, next year the car will be in a track worthy condition, and I will push it properly.
Had a good wander round, had a good look round and just enjoyed the day. :)

Rallye James and Rich are cool as well, probably the only two people who i actually spoke to properly:)

What was the need for mentioning any of that? And to be honest, I can't actually remember ever sayin it was slow, or a piece of shit, anythin I did say was a joke, and I told you that. I spent half the journey down there tellin you to be careful, and to slow down cos I knew how pissed you'd be if it got broken. Lise is a bitch though right.

Anyway, I had a really good weekend. Was good to put faces to names. Thanks to Shell for chattin away and listenin to my problemos :)

stand layout was a total joke really we should of had the whole of the area we were in and they could have done that aswell as they actually had space inside the club stand area which wasnt been used by any clubs that could of had the RR on instead or even next to the 306 lot

i spent an age stood talking with a few of the marshalls and they did actually say we could have some of the RR's space as they didnt have anywhere near the amount of cars that would be needed to fill thier area but obviously the RR werent told that

but considering that there were so many cars there before we even started trying to "organise" the stand i think we did pretty well to get everyone in and all of us that did the parking should be pretty chuffed with that

i enjoyed the show more this year but the trade area wasnt worth visiting yeah there was some nice cars in it but the trade stands werent anything to shout about

was nice catching up with everyone and meeting a few new people :)

Ermm the top 10 cars were the ones all around pugme - it was meant to be nicely roped off and spaced out, but again the total lack of space stopped us from doing it

And yes of course pugme was allowed to park his at the front as it was a top 10 show car... lol

I thought it was a bit of a shame they were left in the bottom corner of the stand. Would have looked better where Joe's car was at the front. Who was actually in the top ten, I think there was Nick, Pugme, Wardy and Dargs parked there, but don't know who else was?

I understand that, but Im sure my bro's was meant to be as well, I mean just sticking it at the front randomly, everybody was lined up and parked up well

It doesnt really matter now anyway as the show has been and gone, just dont think its fair how certain ppl get priority over others

Was your bro there? did he mention to staff that he was suppiosed to be on the ten best bit?

We had an utter ngithmare parking the cars, at first we thought the stand was pretty small so went about trying to pack people in, then we were told it was twice as big as we originally thought, so tried to fill it out a bit, then it looked like the extra space still wasnt enough.

Wasnt at all impressd with the driftworks team, been waiting a while to see there supra powered s15 on track, and he goes and stacks it! lol, missed the 106oc track time :(

Sorry but what is with the shitty attitude?

Are you actually saying that the staff, as well as parking 150 cars in a space made for 100 cars, they were also supposed to check each one against a list of the top 10?

That would have been impossible as there were loads of cars that look alike!!!

If he had just said that he was on the top ten bit he'd of been sent down with pugme and the rest

Oh and if you mean the red S1 rallye that nick now owns - he was in ten of the best as well

lmao just to add to this sorry to leah for my car being slightly in the wrong place early on, i was stood 20 yards from it talking to wizza and 5 mins into our conversation he just said '' oh by the way leah wants you to move your car' lmao
what a legend.
thanks for membership pack btw think it was a great idea getting a few out on the day.
and dont worry about the stand etc, i think most people could see we were not allocated enough room, next year i guarantee they will give us huuuge amounts.
were not a new club anymore.

Chris S
24-06-2008, 04:27 PM
The main problem was not knowing how much space we had in the first place. So when the first 50 or so cars had been crammed in, it was hard to get everyone moved into a suitable position once they'd already been parked.

If we'd known how much space we had from the first parked car then i think things would have been much simpler

Fuzzy Orange
24-06-2008, 04:28 PM
Its the same story every year mate

The parking marshals are just paid £150 a day to stand there and point in the rough direction of where people are meant to go

The areas arent planned out enough so theres not enough space for the cars
And the staff arent allowed in early, so we couldnt mark off areas and get marquees up before hand

:(

its a poor show layout imo , it was far better at brunters where the show was 1 complete thing instead of the trade area being away over the other side, its like a club car park really asnd then the show's over there somewhere, i wont be going next year if its at wankingham raceway

Yep I said the same thing last year semtex

But went this year for the track and obviously because of this club

Brunters was 100x better, nice soft grass to walk around on, made some lovely photos of the cars as well
I cleaned mine 4 times this year before I got bored of washing off the dust that was blowing onto it from the gravel

And every year it does always just feel like your walking through the car park to get to a very small little show in the middle - the club parking areas dont seem like part of the show at all :(

they messed it up this year though i thought there was supposed to be waaaaaaay more in the trade area this year i'm sure there was alot less seemed to be so much open space in among the stands

i think it should go back to brunters aswell it was much better when everything was all mixed in and the trade stands were among the club stands, they really need to let staff in before they open to the club stands aswell as with 140-150 cars to sort we didnt have much of a chance to organise anything and when you get there and are mistakenly told we only have half the space of which we were supposed to have by the time you try and sort it its too late people have come in abandoned thier cars and walked off :(

My missus and some of my local club members that came, commented on that as well. It just seemed like the club stands were the car park for the show in the middle of the track.

Whilst we are on the subject of pulling the show apart...

VIP area? Since when did crisps and biscuits constitute snacks?

They didn't half make a killing on that. I never ate anywhere near £7.50 worth of bourbons and cheese and onion crisps.

When it was advertised as snacks, i kinda was expecting maybe sausage rolls, nuts, small buffet style sarnies etc...

Very Incredibly Poor...

Well 106owners is making enough money recently to reasonably have a national day of our own next year at somewhere like brunters

This year we're doing york and its just us, but next year our plans are to book brunters or donington park, invite all the well behaved clubs like rallye register and saxo sports club etc... and have a proper big french event at a good location :)

Well 106owners is making enough money recently to reasonably have a national day of our own next year at somewhere like brunters

This year we're doing york and its just us, but next year our plans are to book brunters or donington park, invite all the well behaved clubs like rallye register and saxo sports club etc... and have a proper big french event at a good location :)

here here mate im all for some of that

Ste
24-06-2008, 05:21 PM
personally think we need to get this national day done and some serious cash generated through the club first phil but its definately the way forward as rockingham will be the death of FCS

Also how cum pug me got away with abandoning his car infront of everyone else's, as if it was something special?

right iv not read the rest of the thread yet but i am replying to this now!!

i asked the 2-3 cars i was infront of if they were ok with me putting my car there. i was parked in formation with everyone then decided i cudnt be assed to walk half a mile to get water so drove to the tap when i came back my space was gone. so :p :D

and it was hardly abandoned!! i spent all fecking day cleaning it!!

I really think its the location that makes an event, and also the weather

Rockingham seemed sooo dull last year, it seems like there are different classes between clubs and the trade area

btw how windy was it at the entrance and exits to the stands :O

Brunters FTW! I've got nicely sunburnt too :) I'd attend at Rockingham again but it doesn't really compare to brunters. I guess when I think back to the first FCS I attended in 2002 its amazing how much its grown but I still think alittle more organisation wouldn't go amiss.

awesome weekend imo, had great fun at the pub / hotel and a saw quite abit of bad behaviour involving male crossdressing and a adrian flux condom full of water.

Well done to the clubs organisers for getting everyone on the stand, i was shocked when i arrived at how small the area was.

Would have been awesome to have a marque in the middle of the stand, to draw people through and look at the cars that got stuck in the middle (me).

I think the 106oc national day is gonna be pretty special, after seeing the turnout on our stand. I cant see FCS going on for many more years, rockingham just isnt right for it (although good that its only 30 min drive from my house).

Bring on the national day, lets get some decent trade stands and a nice big area for us all to park in :D

My understanding is you can have shows at Bruntingthorpe but no track because of noise levels, thats why FCS moved in the first place?

Nah bruntingthorpe got told they couldnt use the track anymore - because locals winged about the noise

So FCS moved to rockingham
But then last year a court over-ruled the decision, and brunters is still in use now

I think rockingham must be doing FCS a good deal, because I would definatly have gone back to brunters after last year lol

don't have time to read most comments just now but do read feedback.

As you all know space is allocated at start of may and you took us all by surprise. Thats ONLY way to allocate sections if you wantr tickets then.

So next year as you are big enough and I need a Pug or Citroen club to park in middle we have three to chose from. That includes indoor space and parade laps for club.

We have the best trade list ever this year but many couldn't set up due to 60mph wind. This was incredible being mid summer. several traders suffered hunderds of pounds of damage so please consider this as NOT being the norm. Look at the list below:-

Trade list - http://frenchcarshow.blogspot.com/ which should have been awesome.

I hope the weather is calm next year.

Mark

loudandproud205

mark my quarm isnt with show its with book a track there marshalls all want fireing or retraining am guessing they spent all day looking at there phone not at the job in hand.

i know what marshals are meant todo i was a marshall for many years for llmc and there behavior was poor. if it was llmc we would have all been pulled in to pit and given a bollocking

markd
25-06-2008, 08:56 AM
I am listening to feedback. The problem is if we want to use a track Brunts is out as their noise limit is really low now and most track cars don't make the limit. The venue is not rain proof either.

Rockingham is probably one of the best venues in the UK but setting it up as everyone wants is not always easy. I plan to invite some club officials to a meeting/night out to discuss the best way forward.

Event planning is the heardest thing in the world as you have a few thousand to please and evenryone wants different. I have been on some big forums and the comments are amazingly good.

I am talking with Fuzzy about next year.

Noted about marshalls, I will raise this as we pay tens of thousands for the venue and staff.

Ste

Did anyone else find that people weren't what they imagined?

nah but the amount of people who asked if i was fuzzy or seph  errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm NO

mark

i can see what your saying as when fcs tickets were first annouced i thought we'd get about the same as last year turn up or maybe just short of 100 a quick count was made on the day and there was 140 cars not including the ones that had to be put on other stands and the ones out on track at the time, but rockingham just feels like a gravel car park with the main park of the action seperated and stuck over in the middle

also next year can the club staff maybe be allowed in from 6 so they can get the stand area sorted and confirmed and then they are ready for the cars at 7 as when most of us got there for our stand soon as we got out of the cars we had loads of people wanting parked and no clear idea of the size of our stand

leeds106
25-06-2008, 09:56 AM
yeah club staff from all clubs would probably find it easier if they can gain entry a little earlier

loudandproud205
25-06-2008, 10:16 AM
the noise limit for rockinham shouldnt affect 90% of french cars its only high powered jap and cossy that would suffer if you fid out what max db for cars is you should find that we have no probs as i doubt any off us would be over 98db
