View Full Version : Question Lightened and balanced bottom ends
Well as some of you may have read, Ive got a gti block in stripped down for a re build.
Question is, is l/b ing the crank and flywheel worth while?
Costly id imagine?
Anyone had it done and noticed any worth while differences?
Cheers

simple answer...
yes...
from experience flywheel makes a hell of a difference..
Fly wheel is good, but you know how heavy the crank is, now think of the intertia of that roating at 1000's of times a second...
You need to get it all done really, but then again its only a 106 and I doubt you will see the gains.
Ahhh I was hoping you'd see this.
Right, I'll get some prices and see how it goes.

Its defo worth doing if you want a revvy little engine
Makes them rev up quicker - but gives them a rather difficult idle
Worth it if you dont mind holding your foot on the gas to keep it ticking over lol

Eh? Idling?
first iv ever herd that.. my mates is light as hell and idles spot on..
So long as its balanced, the idle will be fine.
I think QEP said they get a kilo off the flywheel.
