been despritly trying to get my car to pass emmissions and iv tried eberything: Cat, 2 lambdas (uni - never use a uni by the way!! and now the propper one) coolant temp sensor, then just now in my m8s garage we found this pipe had snapped off the bottem of the intake manifold, the pipe goes over the top of the rocker cover towards the left, then down into the drivers side wing?? when i put it back on the intake and just held it there the co levels on the emmissions droped dramatically,

Any Help!!?

Vacuum pipe to the carbon canister in the inner wing

Vents petrol fumes from the tank into the engine to be burnt

Being disconnected isnt the end of the world - but having the connector snapped off is
You've got an open hole in the inlet manifold on the wrong side of the throttle

So its uncontrolled - that will be why your emissions are through the roof

You need to find a new 16v inlet mate :(

take the top of the inlet manifld off, then block the hole on the inlet with a bolt siliconed into the inlet. then cut the carbon canister pipe down by the ecu tray and silicon and jubilee clip a bolt into there too then everythings sealed and it'll pop flames easier lol

Ah i was going to ask a question about this. Mine makes a clicky kinda noise but it comes from the inner wing side. It makes the noise when idleing but if i just touch the accelerator it goes away for a while then comes back. Guy from eccosse said its some kinda valve on the end of the pipe and its nothing to worry about. Is he right?

just finished sorting it today, had to get the whole top half of the inlet off - abit of a bitch as one of the two upside down screews at the back had previously been rounded off!, it had obviously been bodged before, 1st i tried glueing it but that was never gunna work, so me an my m8 at his garage managed to open up the hole a few mms and put about a inch of brake pipe in it the opened up the hole on the snapped off connecter and then managed to get them both connected up, sorted, put it back on the emmissions tester and it brought it down from 0.8 to 0.49 need to just bring it down 0.2 hopefully some petrol treat ment will sort that, its odd how that would snap off its right outa the way,

id say its just come uncliped and is lose in the arch, should be fine i reckon

Ahh glad you've fixed it mate

If you did want a replacement inlet manifold - http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=44567

Noticed the exact same problem with mine last week so took her for a trip to the garage. I was quoted around £350 for the whole unit, give or take depending on what gaskets he needed to get. Is this a bit much?

Secondly I decided against the work, as I think I have engine problems as its running pretty lumpy. So I didnt want to pay 3 hours labour fixing this and then paying someone else to take the engine to bits as my local garage wont do it.

I am pretty sure that the broken lead is not affecting my engine, as there was no change in tone/noise when covering the holes.....However something Fuzzy said has made me wonder!

has this vacum pipe causing this, i saw a small sharp blue flame coming from my tb with a pop when we were trying to turn it over.

as far as i was aware this pipe came from the 'depollution tank' which basicly takes all the pressure that builds up in your petrol tank when it gets hot sat in the sun or whatever then when the engines at the right temp it puts the gases back into the engine to get burnt and get rid of, wudnt think it would have anything to do with yours not starting up??
