View Full Version : Question 1.6l to 1.8l
I have just burned two of my pistons in my 1.6 rallye ´97 :(
And my question is now, what will i need to make this mod? And how much will it cost? Im thinking of buying it used ofc, because the prices that Peugoet want are just to damn expensive.
What do you want to do?
Re-bore the cylinders?
Yes, gonna re-bore the cylinders. As the of the cylinder-wall i pretty scratched from the piston :(
Im not even sure if its possible to bore them out that far, but if it is then you'll need some new pistons for sure.
other than that im clueless on the matter, sorry mate.

the biggest you can really go on the 1600 block would be 79.5mm... any more than that and the cylinder walls get bloody thin....
that will probably only take it up to 1640?? 1650?? cc at a guess
Hmm... Would i then need a new crankshaft and rods to?

for a 79.5mm re-bore you can get away with just pistons.. when i had my engine built forged ones were actually cheaper than peugeot!
a diesel crank from the 1.4hdi lump (in theory) could be made to fit to give extra stroke but you`ll also need rods and pistons with that set up...
if just the cost of pistons from peugeot are too expensive for you the above will probably give you a heart attack....
Think im gonna drop the projekt then :/ Its cheaper to buy a used 1.6 lump, and restore that along with sharper cam shaft and 4-2-1 manifold with 2½inch exhaust.

unless you really want to stick 8v now could be a good time to go 16v??
Gonna stick with the 8v :) Gonna be to much trouble if i put a 16v in it. I cant according to our law here. we are only allowed to expand the engine HP by 20% when changing the engine :(

Standard crank and 79.5mm pistons = 1628cc
Standard crank and 80mm pistons = 1648cc

1.6hdi.
In theory ;)

106 rallye = 105bhp?
106 gti = 120bhp
105/100*20= 21Bhp More = 20%
Gti is 15Bhp get that engine in!
I wish I understood the jargon in this thread :(
I thought the GTi was 130bhp and the rallye 103

You can buy a stroker kit for the gti/vts, shouldnt see why it wouldnt work in an 8v. Ask hi-flow heads, they know all about this. Was going to do it in a vts but never got round to it.

a 16v lump would only be increasing BHP by aprox 15% over the original rallye 8v
