headgasket, ( which one???)

right i went to find out the price of a headgasket the other day, and they said there was three types :O, how do i find out which one i need, something to do with notches ??

OH AND ITS A GTI ENGINE :D of course lol

no skim = one notch, first skim = 2 notches, second skim = 3 notches

My head gaskets just gone and ive gone for a payne 2 notch kit all ive paid £101 all in. (thats head kit and bolts). its only leaking oil but ive gone for a skim anyways.

right its time to do ma head, and thats what i thought, the notches was to do with skimming, i was going to get the head skimmed down for some more compression,
if i skim the head alot can i use a 1 notch gasket?? will i have clearence probs? or will i need a thicker one? notch 2,3

bump, can i use a notch 1 gasket when the heads skimmed right down ?

steff you will need to find out the valve clearances and work out how much your mate will have to take off if the head is warped or not then you can find out what notch gasket you will need
