Can someone please give me some advice a have a few problems with my pug.
Its a T reg 1.1 Zest 3, ive had it about 2 months.
Here are the problems
1- It sometimes revs on its own when at traffic lights etc
2- Started to misfire
3-It starts juddering sometimes while driving especially if im only going 30mph
4- At least once a day ill go to turn a corner and the car will excellerate on its own.
Apart from all that it fine lol !!
Ive changed the spark plugs, HT leads and i also had a new coil pack but its made no difference.
If anyone has any ideas please let me know
thankyou:o

Ive heard that the cable and butterfly can cause problems similar to whats described, try cleaning the throttle body and set the acelerator a notch away so you have "freeplay" if that still doesn't cure the fault then you may have a faulty idle air control valve. (unfortunately i dont know much about them) lol

Sorry, am quite new to this. Just signed up can reply to this post. My 106 is driving me crazy, constantly juddering.....you pretty much described my car! And i'm so confused .

I'm no mechanic, honestly I shouldn't be allowed near an engine (or anything technical for that matter :p) But really want to get this problem sorted so more than willing to get my hands dirty!! Any tips? + how are you getting on with fixing yours?

hey,

maybe you could check all engine mounts and dampeners?? if there is some give to any particular direction for the engine block then it could cause a sudden shake or vibration or noise when braking for example.

the fact it accelerates on its own and also particularly in corners could be a sign of the throttle cable/system being moved from the movement of the engine too.

sometimes the mounts may not be fully broken or the rubber dampeners may just be worn or cracked and can be fixed without TOO much hassle so long as no major damage has occured to frame, engine or other components.

Hi there, I just joined today too, looking for some different advice, but saw this and thought I would add mytuppence worth...

I bought my 1.1 Zest (1999 on a 'T') from my sister and it's got a very 'lumpy' idle as well. While she had it she got the garage to go over it several times and they even replaced the ECU as well, but no luck, it just seems like there were a lot of 'Monday Morning/Friday afternoon specials'.

I will try the advice from Shaggy106 though.

cud be engine mounts or dampeners...

if the engine has room to move due to a broken or worn engine mount then it can cause a sudden shuddering noise and shaking when braking for example. when you are in a corner the engine may get movement from the forces acting on it and the damaged engine mount or dampener allowing movement - this cud result in the throttle cable or system to get unwanted movement or action on it causing the car to rev or accelerate!

check all engine mounts to the chassis and inspect the rubber dampeners that shoudl be on the mount too!

let us know what you find!

So there I was, pushing and pulling things under the hood, when i decided to check my coolant. After turning the cap a few notches it started to release air (lots of it) - now me being me, I don't know if this is supposed to happen or anything, but since replacing the cap.....my car has been fine. Now I don't think this would have affected anything, but any ideas anyone...........im confused?

I've got no idea :(...I think I know less than you about cars :o, but am very much in the same position - no car no job. But I've been driving around all day for work and my car has given me absolutely no hassle (very VERY strange as it's given me hassle everyday for the last two months) I've got a mechanic friend who I will be trying to get hold of over the next few days to ask, I shall try to remember to ask about oil in the water aswell :o. I really hope this sorts your pug thou!!

P.S....don't get too worried about your MoT, I was Sh*ting myself before mine - only cost me £40 all in all.....will be going back there next year!

Do you think I should book MOT asap and see what they come up with?? then least i still got a couple of weeks to get it sorted if it does fail:o

Could be a good idea actually, gives you some time to get things sorted if it turns out you need some work done. I did ask the mechanic at the time to give my car a test drive to find out why it was juddering around.

He said "Could be a number of things, but probably spark plugs or an electrical fault". But since then I've spoken to alot of people and they completely disagree with that.

See where you can get a decent priced MoT, and don't let them rip you off because you're female....and if they do, set me on them :p

Lol ,yeah I took my car in peugeot garage and he said it could be a number of things, but I reckon it would be too expensive there anyway.

Took my car to orbit last year but my car failed and they told me it would cost £350 to fix so I scapped it lol, it was my first car a pug 1.0xn N reg it only cost me £200 so I wasnt paying that to gat it fixed lol:)

So thats why I am nervous about MOTs
Hopefully though this one wont be too bad else ill kill my little brother he told me I only needed to change the spark plugs!!

lol, I wouldn't have paid £200 either! Although saying that this is my second MoT and its failed both, but only at the cost of £100 the first time and £40 the second time. Have you tried calling around all the MoT garages in your area?

But try not to be nervous....worst thing that can happen is it will cost you a bomb! Although I don't think that's helping you at all!

Out of curiosity, how long has your pug been juddering? Because mine's been doing for about 2 months..passed the MoT fine, only it failed on was a broken passenger seat (last time I let my seriously over weight friend sit in the car! :P). But I promise you that since I managed to accidently release air from the coolant, my car is fine....very strange. You'll have to let me know how you get on with that....I'm intreiged (or however you spell it) it!

Err well, I brought it about march and its always done it but when my brother had it I did notice it reving on its own when he took me out last september, but he never mentioned it juddering so I suspect it may have been doing it for ages but he wont admit it:rolleyes:
Think he scared im gonna ask for me money back lol

this may sound stupid but will a dodgy idle make it fail an MOT?

Hi, just saw your question and thought i'd jump in..

Your car shouldn't fail it's MOT with a dodgy idle, it'll only fail if the emission readings are too high. But don't worry, the idle won't affect that.

Is your car reving on it's own, or is it just ticking over too slow?.

For toni 25...
Sorry, just read more threads..
My friend had a similar problem, his was caused by the throttle position sensor unit. When it goes it confuses the engine, which is why it revs on it's own.
They're about £45-55ish, and about a 15 minute job 2 change for someone who knows what their doing...

Hope this helps..

Just a quick one for Toni, just to let you know that since I did the whole coolant cap thingamabob....my car is still fine.

The car still revs itself, but there's no more juddering - i think thats a good thing!

Just an update, the thing that caused excess revving on my mates car was called a "Stepper Motor". It's pretty much the same as a throttle position sensor, but not...
Still only about £45-£55ish. Don't get from peugeot, coz they'll rip you off.
