View Full Version : 1.4 bottom end on 1.3 head?
Has anyone done this?
Would it be just as good as putting a 1.6 bottom end on?

answered on r/r but I have done it and a few others on ssc have.
rallyesax made 119bhp with what was basically a complete S1 1.3 top end on his 1.4 alloy block furio, usual breathing mods 4branch exhaust etc helped that along.
I made 109bhp on my old setup but using a pre-cat xsi loom, ecu and inlet.
But using a 1.6 bottom end would be manic from what I remember of my mates old one, need to uprate the FPR in any chance to a 3.5bar one tho. It all depends what engine you can get hold of cheaper, its a worth while thing doing if you want a cheap power upgrade
Did you use a quiksilver bottom end on yours Gav?:)

yeah I did mate would have made more power with S1 inlet and ecu but the xsi stuff was easier to sort out at the time.
Need to think which engine you can get cheaper and is going to be easier to get hold of, but if just changing bottom ends on the S1 1.3 go for the 1.4 alloy block cheap and plentiful, keeps you in the cheap tax band and gives you 16v power with the usual stuff ontop.
So basically 1.4 alloy block bottom end, 3.5bar fpr from a silvertop quiksilver or VTR job done happy days

think what u wanna do is put the 1.4 pistons and rods onto the 1.3 crank and head and u will have a screamer
