Is it possible to have a 1.4 spi head fitted to a 1.1 spi bottom end. And can the 1.4spi head be mildly cammed, as far as I know the 1.1 head can't be.
Cheers.

the 1.4 head should fit pal, but you might as well fit the whole engine. Look on QEP's site for cam listings:)

Cheers for the reply Dan. I'll find the model number of the engine and see if they have camshafts available for it..
It just seems a lot easier to change the head. Get a nice new headgasket on there, whack the new head on, without having to remove the engine.
I sort of want to see how much bhp a 1.1 could make. Could be fun and cheap.

1.4's have a different bore and stroke to the 1.1 engine, stick a Rallye head on it instead for a proper gain:)

Which Rallye heads would fit remember I'm spi.
Am I looking at 1.3 head and inlet?

Think my parents would go spare if I came home with a whole engine - haha. And I don't have the skills to swap a whole engine over.
But how many miles does it have? How did it go when you went over to Bluewater?
Cheers.
EDIT: And what are the plans for your car. Valver it? You got the OMP bucket(s?) in?

I didnt take it to bluewater, i went with charlie in the end.
The engine has covered 100k, and after fixing the front suspension, I took it out for a day and it was beating cars such as...
Golf GT TDI
Gold TDI 130
Someone in a 106 GTI who tried to take me, So i showed him the 8V power horse :p
It runs nicely from what driving I had from it.
My plans for it are the bottom end of a S2 rallye / VTR (its the same block), then rebuild with low comp pistons and supercharge it.
Hoping to have it ready for next year's track season.
And got some cobra buckets in.
I personally wouldnt bother messing to much with your 1.1 SPI, the money spent wont give the same results as a new lump would.

Sounds good, the XSi engine.
I just fancy doing some fettling, see what I can get it to. It will be cheap and easy before I move on to bigger things.
Thanks for the input I'm going to think things through.

you'll have to use the 1.1 drivers engine mount though Jonny, as its very different from the XSi one, splicing of the looms is also needed

Yeah, that type of stuff I know I can't do.
Would everything on my engine be compatable with 1.3 head and inlet, to get in plumbed in relatively easily?
Any idea how it's going to idle?

Mate, just source a 1.3 Rallye head and inlet! It'll be interesting to see the results, a little different, fairly cheap to do. We could probably manage it over a few weekends :D

Everything will work with a bit of fabrication. Just pack it out with washers.

don't do it, bores will need reliving for the valves bit of a paint.
XSi / 1.3 rallye btw I do know of a 1.3 for sale complete with loom and ecu to

Gav to the rescue. So I can't swap the head? That's extreme-gay.
OK, so I better start planning for an engine conversion. But won't be as soon as this would of been.

1.4spi will fit just use the inlet and tb aswell mate, as to gains you will notice something
1.3 head and inlet would not fit without alot more work

Thanks for clearing that up.
Would you recomend sourcing a second hand cam for the 1.4 aswell, worth it? One that would only be mild so not need a remap or owt.
Be fun to rolling road it all this summer and see what it gets.

tbh I wouldn't bother with a cam just use the 1.4spi head, inlet and tb probably kick power up to 70bhp with the usual mods ontop, get a nice bit of torque aswell

will this actually work? lol im thinking down the same lines, want to squeez wat i can out of a 1.1, and if you managed to fit the 1.4 head is camming a posibility?
