where the gearstick comes out under the chassis there should be a bolt which you can tighten. New linkages will tighten it up or you could just chuck on a quickshift!

what quickshift is best for them and would it be better to do linkage and quickshift . Are they expensive ??
cheers for replys i'll get under it tomorow and see whats what
quickshift from http://www.griffiths-engineering.co.uk/ cost £23.98 delivered
I'm planning to get one for the same reason.

How do these fit on??
My gearstick was loose when the pin in the selector rod had sheared, have a check see if thats in right, coz just moving that made a difference to how the gearstick felt?
Check out the guide - http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=360
There's is certainly an improvement in not having to move the gearstick as much but I still get a fair bit of side-to-side play when in gear. Probably something else worn.

when i put my new gearbox in i put 1 of the link rods on a diff ball as to what it was originally on(as thers 2 to choose from) and it was really tight n really short but yer.............
yeah as mentioned above there are 2 balls to put your rod on. if you want a quickshift get onto comp brake and get a proper one none of this linkage extension crap

banging a quickshift on isn`t the answer..
replace your linkage bars as they wear and cause the play.
ideally with pugsport rose jointed ones (mega reccommended)
if you have rust you dont just paint over it.. fix the problem don`t hide it..
as for quickshifts the GE one ok but only reduces side to side movement as it only fits on 1 section of the linkage.. get yourself a TAS/GMC style 1.. much better imho.....

I am getting my linkage arms changed next week. Is it worth sticking a quickshift on too??

yes mate once you know everythings tight and proper a quickshifts a good idea.. if your on a budget the GE ones a good bit of kit i`ve still got an old style 1 in the toolbox somewhere but the one that replaces the std equipment under the gaiter is the best one... but like everything.. it costs more!

Are they easy enough to fit after the gear linkages have been done? Or are they easier to do while the gear linkages are being done?

which rod has two options to choose from as this could be the problem as it had a new box fitted before i bought it .
the one that comes out the gear box and down i think it is. its the part sticking out the box with 2 balls on, (nudge nudge) i think its the top one that tightens side to side movement, mines in the tight position and its missed shifts all around for christmas boys and girls

if your doing on the cheap, go to a scrappy and test the play in the gearbox (doesn't have to be started) if ok, pinch the linkages from it, (just pop out with a 19mm spanner) stick the quickshift on it then fit to the bottom of your motor. :)

mine just came out of the garage yesterday for the same reason and also the driveshafts, and they said it was the linkage, its fine now tho:)

Mine goes in tomorrow for linkages.
Also someone has put a bolt through the shaft rather than the proper pin, n00bs!

get a quickshift form peugeot eccosse ;)
why buy anything from ecosse? its prob twice the price of averywhere else.
replace your linkages first kiddywinks, their about 15 quid for the set from pug i recall.
and as for banging on about hese shitty ge quickshifts, the tas ones are 20 guid more and actually have some metal to them. far as i'm concerned the ge ones are daylight robbery.

if when its in or out of gear it has quite alot of play sideways too it you will find its the gear linkage with the big rubber ball on it
they tend to wear down and make the stick wabble about a fair amount
thinik the part is about £40 from pug
