so will there be a big difference in the drive of the car then?

If they are long as fred says acceleration wil be sacrificed for top end providing you have the power to pull all the way!

Best box imo is a 1.4 xsi box, i have one on my gti and i cant praise it enough !

any 106 gearbox fits any engine, i believe. 8v boxes can be used on 16v, so should be interchangeable from 8v to 8v

a 1.1 box will give good acceleration, but poor top end, whilst a VTR or Quiksilver box will provide good top end but lesser acceleration.

1.4 XSi box is a good compromise, like Jeffers says

with a quiksilver box on the gti will the low down power be really noticeable or will it just be slight?

there will be a drop in low down power and acceleration, as the ratios on the quiky box are long.

you want a gti box on a gti really.

^ i much prefer the xsi box for what i use the car for .

Ok 70 mph is a 4k rev job but i can hit the limiter in 5th with ease! (on that runway ;))
