Im looking into converting my 1.1 into a 1.4 by puttin a quicksilver engine in or a 1.3 rallye. wich would be best?? also is it a staight swap i.e gear box? wiring? feul lines? ect.
If i go ahead with the plan i will strip it down and rebuild it over time inc.. kent cam, 4-2-1 manifold, skimed head. any other segestions? also wat diference does vts inlet manifold make? And how much bhp will these mods give out?
hopfully you will all give me much needed advise and help... cheers:D

the rallye would be best its the more powerful engine of the 2 :-D
but probably the easier to swap would be the quicky engine because of the loom and sensors n stuff
n where u get ya lowering done mate ?

nice one. would the quicky be a straight swap then e.g plugs would all fit with no extra wirering?
n i lowered the car my self.. torsion bar was a fooker. got to do it again probs as im looking for a new disc rear beam for it.

lol yeh all u reli need is patience and a masive slide hammer.

lol yeah dun have one :-(
u just replace the springs or dampers too ???

On the front its best to go for an uprated damper if possible. I personally only spec bilstien 15% uprated inserts for lowering. On the rear you will need alot of patience and a slide hammer is ok. Again, it takes time and doing it your self is ok, but i would recommend replacing the trailing arm bearing at the same time as lowering the rear beam reduces the life of the factory fitted ones!

I was also thinking of this, but have decided to go with the quiki too
however i think i'm just gonna pay sombody else to do it for me, i doubt i'd have the time to do it my self

yeah i wanna do it mod up the 1.1 ;-p quicky i think is best bet because VTR might b too large for the lil 1.1
need to find a 2000> inlet manifold tho

not worth doing a whole engine swap for about 10 bhp more, get a vtr engine fitted, use the vtr whole car and engine loom so theres no need for splicing!

id love to but im only 17 and i dont wana bump my insurance up to much.

noooo we want to enjoy extra power and more modding options with lower tax and insurance than a vtr

wait another year or so then mate! quicksilvers aint that much quicker then 1.1's standard to be fair! if you want a 1.4 get an xsi lump fitted but insurance wont be much less then a vtr engine and u will struggle to get insured on a engine conversion at 17!
seanbeast
12-05-2008, 07:09 PM
:(why will we stuggle to get insured on a conversion?
liaminllan
12-05-2008, 07:12 PM
insurance companys dont like then mate! it would be cheaper to insure a quicksilver or a vtr then put either of the engines in your shell!

saying that, i could still just get a manifold and decent exhaust system for less and earn a few bhp see i'm not converting from a 3 stud and putting anew engine in, i may aswell get a new 106
most mainstream insurers don't like mods and use scarmongering to discourage it, and the ones that do like you to be at least 19 (is that righ for flux? not sure on quinn)
i won't change to a gti or anything yet just upgrade my current car, as i need a house before a GTI
but in the mean time i can mod my 1.1->1.4

chris! french sport tuning will fit a vtr engine for you mate and there in your area too

yeah but i wanna stay 3 stud and i very much doubt even with vented groved disks a 3 stud set up would cope with a vtr engine
if it would then a vtr engine would deffo be on the cards

whats there website

Go for an XSI engine then, check out my progress thread for one a made earlier lol, mine was only a 1.1, now its a throttle bodied 1.4 XSi, and i have 3 stud brakes, i simply did an AX GT oversize brake conversion to 258mm 3 stud discs, which are bigger than XSi brakes!

what was needed for AX GT brake conversion cos i can't ever find anything like that on ebay
Andy XSi
14-05-2008, 01:46 PM
All you need is the front struts of an AX GT (one with 258mm discs, NOT the smaller ones), then the calipers and discs, then wake it on! Your original brake vacuum cylinder will be fine.
Get it all of one thats been arse ended, or get in parts off flea bay

can you not just swap the discs nd calipers and carriers onto a 106 hub/strut?

what would actually be needed to convert from say a 1.0/1.1 to a 1.4 xsi engine?
Someone gimmy a list or something, rep is on offer ;)

You would need:
Engine (obviously)
Engine Loom
ECU
Fuel Pump,
Return Fuel Line if not already there,
And possibly a few other little bits and bobs...
You could also just replace the entire car loom, to avoid having to splice the MPI engine loom with your SPI car loom, but tbh, i'm not really sure that option will be easier, unless you are already planning on having the car apart.
Plus the sort of recommended necessities like upgraded brakes and suspension.

Look at my progress thread and you'l see whats needed, i did it!

And no you cant put the ax brakes onto ur pug struts, the caliper mounts are longer to compensate for the larger discs
peugeot/citroen mutant
15-05-2008, 09:01 PM
ah so do the caliper mounts not be swapped like on some other cars ive worked on?
Andy XSi
15-05-2008, 09:22 PM
Nope, there a one piece part of the strut

ok then i realy wana get a new engine now iv got nothing to do in the evenings now, so what engine could i buy that will just plug in to my old loom? inc ecu
rob_s
25-05-2008, 11:25 AM
quicksilver/westcoast engine?
the early ones were 1 plug so i think it would just be plug and play maybe?
or if you got a newer quicksilver/furio engine they were 3 plug so would need to mod your wireing loom to pair up with the new engine one etc
seanbeast
25-05-2008, 11:29 AM
nice1 so is there any difference betwean the quicksilver/westcoast engine or just a different badge?
rob_s
25-05-2008, 11:35 AM
difrent badge mate
im gonna put my old one on ebay i think
done 94k and needs a clutch so not expecting loads for it,but would do for someone if they wanted it for bits maybe lol only just had the cambelt and head gasket done onit aswell

id probs have that off you but live to far away:(
oh and would a 1.1 gearbox fit on the 1.4?
liaminllan
25-05-2008, 07:28 PM
yes mate strate fit, if you get an early 1.4 silvertop engine with a single plug ecu ur loom will be the same so no need for wiring changes but you will need a single plug 1.4 unlocked ecu to run it as the 1.1 wont fuel enough for a 1.4
