Hello, Where to start...
... I want to upgrade my air filter from the standard one it has, but I am unsure on which one to go for preferably one of the K&N range.
Its hard to figure out which air filter it is, my car is an Peugeot 106 8v S2 (1996 model) 1.1 XL...
... but I am unsure on what the engine name is, any ideas ?
Also which filter do I need to get ?.
Thanks.

*Nods* Thanks, I have no idea really... I look on the net for an air filter and I my mind gets consumed with loads of different ones, which ends up in me sitting the pondering "Ermm..." for about 10 mins lol.
I thought to myself its about time I spent some money on my Car. Shes currently done more miles than the Starship Enterprise, so I think I will be giving her a service this week.
My calipers are also in a dire state as my break pad though it would, vannish while I was out having a drive up the Lake District... so I have a nice warped disc :/. Which thankfully I am getting repaired today. *Cheers*

Best bet is to get an enclosed filter, like a Raceland or BMC, cos then it doesnt take heat in from the engine bay, so gives better results, but they're quiet.
So if ya after sound, an open filter would be best.
Have a look in here for pics and better info...http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=36092 :)

my guess, best would be to change the filter for race filter and trill a hole in filterbox facing out... that's cheap and will give you better results as it keeps the heat out and leting cool air in from the hole throgh a free flow filter..

I think I am going to get http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=ROAD&pcode=GRED70150
Not sure on which I should get as I am not sure which is the right one due to I don't know what I need to measure *Shrugs*. Any ideas on the inlet sizes for my Car ?.
And, my car isn't getting fixed till next week now... I am still amazed how my break pad managed to do a runner from the caliper.

is yours an SPI or MPI?

If its an SPi then there arn't many that I know of.

I've got this one, sounds great but does take some hot air from the engine bay.
If its MPI then a raceland can be used but his one from eccose should be good, bit steap though.

I think you've had it then, i can find any of the 57i's for that engine type, just the filters that go as a replacement for the standard filter.
unless you can fine ones for the 205 that used the same engine, but I can't.
Sorry bud.

You'd need to block the pipe that the breather goes into the mushroom though....

After looking at gowmonster (http://www.106owners.co.uk/forums/member.php?u=1346) link about, I am come to the conclusion that its SPI as the number on the window contains HDY.
I have also come to the conclusion that the garage that sold it to me suck as they told me the wrong stuff :/.
Thanks for the advise all whom have posted, I think I will go for the Cotton Green filters, but first I need to figure out what the inlet size is.
them green filters are pretty steep prices
going abit oftopic now but has your full pad done a runner or just the braking surface as my runabouts had the surface drop off the backing a few times its just down to shit quality pads
oh and where abouts in cumbria you from aint many from up here on the site

It totally ran off, I was on the Windermere Road when it thought it would do it, I ended up having to do metal on metal breaking all the way home due to the severity of the bends :/.
And South Cumbria, near Barrow-in- Furness.
