hey guys,

right been offline for A bit,

got my engine translpant sorted, and will post up some new pics soon,

only one problem, my temparature goes through the roof at idle, like really fast, i flushed the engine, changed the coolant, and still no joy, its ok when im driving, above 50 for example but as soon as i stop i can actually see the needle rising wayyyyyyy past the 3/4 and all the way to the dreaded red light. is it my thermostat?? if so where the hell is it?

my radiator needs replacing AS THE FINS ARE FOOKED BUT SURELY THAT CANT BE THE MAIN CAUSE, IF SO WHERE CAN I GET A NISSENS AND HOW EASY IS it to replace, i need this sorted by the track time at rockingham!!!!!

any idea appriciated guys

cheers

maybe your thermostat is sticking...you could test it i suppose.the thermostat is in the thermostat housing,to find it follow the top radiator hose and it goes to the thermostat housing and its in ther (im sure ull work out how to get it out as its like a few bolts).and if u wana test it take it out n tie a bit of string to it n basicaly boil it n see if it opens.you can get a nissens radiator from 106parts.com think mine cost 80£ and its not really that hard to fit.and if you need a thermostat ther around a tenner.hope this helps,im sure someone else will know whats goin on.

could be the water pump not getting enough water around.

check the thermostat first though

did you bleed the cooling system properly after changing the coolant to make sure there is no air trapped in it? I'd be 99% certain thats your problem. The bleed screw is located on the thermostat/temp sensor housing to the left hand side of the engine, where the top rad hose connects to it. let the engine heat up, and loosen the screw slightly so that all the trapped air is bled out, you'll know when its bled because it wont be bubbling anymore, it wil just flow/drip coolant. tighten the screw up and take it for a test drive;)

let us know if you're still experiencing any problems

good idea.thers 3 bleed points.1 on top of the radiator,1 on the thermo housing and 1 at the back of the engine(its a hose with a dust cap on).

right well i changed all the coolant and water once more at the weekend, the nib at the topleft of the engine bay kept fillin the rad (which was low) up with water until it started flowing out of the tiny hole in the hose, it seems ok at the mo but at the same time it goes up to the third line on the gauge (dash) but no higher, it certainly gets hot still tho, ill try the thermo stat tonight i think,

cheers boys

just out of interest, what car did you do the engine swap into? if it was a lower model 106 then you wouldnt have the bigger rad from the gti, that could be whats causing you to run hot? you could also try the fan switch to make sure its not kicking in too late.
