I've heard that people get good gains when using vtr inlet manis and injectors on quicksilvers. My 1.4 xs is single point injection, so obviously it is not a straightforward swap. What is needed to convert from spi to mpi?

Prob better off putting a complete VTR engine in tbh. Not expensive, I got a complete VTR engine, box, ecu, loom, full exhaust and radiator for £120

you've got it all wrong- now is when you STOP maintaining it properly, so that it goes pop sooner. Then you have an excuse to replace it with something faster :D
lol oj mate, sounds like a plan though.

I'm thinking of doing the same with my xs. Putting a new engine in is good, but you'll be paranoid about the insurance inspectors coming round. I'm thinking of changing the head to a mpi 8v, but trying to find out what will fit is pretty hard - i'm looking at head gaskets to see which head will fit on my bottom end properly - millions of TU engines! Lol.
