I have posted in the parent forum regarding the tuning of the 1.6 8v, 90bhp variant TU5JP also used in the 106.
I know there are many things I can continue to do from cam to head work, manifolds to exhausts etc but I would like to know which are the most successful in boosting both peak power and torque.
I am currently at 105hp, 110lb/ft of peak torque...
Bear in mind the 206 is around 150-200kg heavier than the 106 I think, so my 0-60 times are 'only' 9.5 seconds currently.

have a look at my progress blog m8 and keep an eye on it. it will of had everything done to it by the end of the next fortnight basically except im only running mild cams and not re-mapping yet ...
and im going on the rolling road in around a months time to see what i have acheved.
im running the same engine as you
ill get the complete spec list of my engine together when i get home thats got big power for an 8v it used to be owned by Hi flow heads :)

Is it just me or did this same engine, which was put in both the 106 and saxo, not have different HP ratings depending on the model?? What exactly is it between them that makes these engines differ in HP? Did they come with different cam profiles or ecu mapping? I suppose a couple of the early 106's came without cats didnt they? Or am I just imagining things? Havent done a whole lot of research on this engine, so saw this thread and thought i'd ask, seeing as how theres a chance one will be going in my car soon, and I want to know what could be done to get it at least above 100bhp...

yeah wot are the differances in these engines. i no early 1.1 ax had about 50 bhp and later ones were closer to 60 bhp

the difference in the 90bhp 8v 1.6 engines are this!
the ones with the Black top rocker covers have 90bhp which are the found in the
s2 XS and the Phase 1 VTR
there is also the same engine found on the XSI which has 105 bhp i think and the s2 rally which have a better Cam in
then there is the silvertop VTR engine which is found in the ph2 VTRS and in none of the 106s they have 98bhp and as far as im aware there the same but maybe have a diff profile cam

to achieve over 100bhp is easy. find a nice low milage bottom end from a silvertop VTR. stick an XSI head and cam on it. 100 bhp quicte easily with breather mods there! push 110 with mani induction adn exhaust i would expect. but theres a bit of work in that u have to get all the correct sensors as the bottom end and the s2 rally wil have diff loom plugs

Yeah, it'll be the 90bhp version, on the 98bhp version, one of the sensors moved position on the inlet, thats how you can tell the difference. :)

exactly what i did....
vtr bottom end
1.4 xsi head
port polish
skimmed head
uprated cam (kent i think)
uprated injectors/fuel rail/regulator
vtr inlet
and to top it all off.... a 1.1 gearbox.
easily passed my mates 16v s2 the other day..
kooshti! :D

is the xsi head the one to go for? does it flow better, better compression, bigger valves?
or does it simply have better standard induction, cam etc?
lookin for a good head to stick on a wee 950cc i just got for £20
was thinkin of puttin the top end of say a xsi on and then running it on a carb a la early s1 nice and simple. and just for some cheap fun. i dont no if itl work so somebody tell me cuz im gonna try soon

the XSI head is basicall the same exept has a mild cam in as standard! no bigger valves no better compression or no better flow without work. however the s2 rally head does have slightly bigger inlets but the exhausts are identical
and xsi head should give a lovely power gain to the 1.1 engines aslong as they are blacktop engines.
as for my spec its now up in my blog. and ask marvv considering including buying the car. hiring the trailor and the fuel to go and pic it up i have spent 1.1k on the whole car up to now and have seen some realy realy healthy gains. going to let the piston rings run in and get a pugsport and i will get it on a rolling road soon!
