If you've never been to a trackday before I can tell you one thing, you'll fucking love it ! I've been to a few so if you have any questions just ask !

Doesn't matter if you don't have the fastest car there, you get put into groups, so there will be cars similar to yours.

Date: 9th June 2008
Location: Knockhill, Dunfermline
Cost: £62
Cars: 35

The height of summer though so its always round about that price, in the winter you get 4 hours for the same price. But its nowhere near as busy.

Aye come along, anyone its welcome to come and watch. They have cameras at every corner so you can sit and watch someones full lap !

Low, give yourself plenty of space, make you intentions clear (indicating) and allow faster cars to pass.

If you go out thinking the worst, it will happen! so don't think about crashing :p

Ok koolio, i have been round knockhill before in a Leon Cupra but it was pissing rain so there was only like 2 other cars on track, but im assuming it will be a lot busier this time lol.

So, if you see a cherry GTi tootling along, give me a wave as you go past haha :)

Gord
16-05-2008, 12:53 PM
I've not seen any accidents, but at the last one a white Integra Type R took a corner waaay to fast than he should have and he lost the back end and went into the tyre wall. He was either not as good as he thought or he was pushing it just above the limit. Accidents happen, I can't have a go at him as I came off at 80mph at Crail on the first trackday I ever took part him. But I learnt from the mistake and done better laps.

As for scared of hitting someone or something hitting you then you simply have to look in your mirrors a lot more than you would. You need to recognise the faster cars the first few laps in so you know what to let pass way before he comes screaming up your arse. The last thing you want to do is hold them back.

The first time at Knockhill it was pouring down with rain, I mean really coming down, so much so that 9 cars out of 30 spent a bit of time on the grass. Not my wee pug mind you, that handled it easy. So I'm hoping for a nice dry day at this one.

OH SHIT:

gez
18-05-2008, 06:22 PM
yeah mate taking the gti round. Its getting bigger brakes, new axle and buckets fitted so should be all done in time, well it better be! lol

Gord
20-05-2008, 12:41 PM
Nice one. The bigger brakes makes SUCH a difference. My mate used to say it felt like I had chucked an anchor overboard ! You make up so much ground when you can outbrake the bigger cars by a big difference. I remember at Knockhill I was chasing an M3, he'd get away from me in the straights but around the corners and me outbraking him I always caught up with him again. We both pulled into the pits and I noticed him having a wee look at my brakes haha !

Gord
20-05-2008, 12:45 PM
Remember if its your first time, take it easy. Don't end up like this guy after he got a bit excited and thought he knew the course after a few laps.

I still don't understand how he ended up like that! Keep within you and your cars limits are you'll be fine

Gord
22-05-2008, 04:54 PM
I cant see an entry in the gravel, so I can only guess he lost the back end somehow on the grass and it managed to roll.

DeekB
22-05-2008, 04:55 PM

think I'll wait untill I've got my suspension sorted out before going round the track!

Gord
23-05-2008, 05:27 PM
Only £5 mate. Get it as soon as you arrive, then you dont need to worry about it after the ' track talk ' Oh and you get a black sticker to go on the windscreen so the guys in the pit know you've had the talk.

Easty-5
23-05-2008, 05:54 PM

25-05-2008, 11:10 AM
Just booked up...

Got a few questions though.

1. What time do you need to arrive?
2. Where do you go when you first arrive?
3. Do you need the paper part of you licsense or is the photocard enough?
4. How much fuel would you recommend lol as don't want to run out?

Cheers

S413AND
25-05-2008, 11:28 AM
Would suggest arriving by 5:45 at the latest - as you'll need to attend a breifing before getting on track. But i'd aim to be up there for 5:30 at the latest so you're not rushing around.

Drive right in and park in the main paddock area, then head up to race control for the breifing.

I'd suggest taking both if you can find them - but photocard should be enough.

Better too much than too little - assuming you come off the M90 at Junction 6, there's an (expensive) Esso just there at the services, or a Shell garage a few miles along the road. Both are within 10 miles of Knockhill, so just fill it up there. Obviously depends how many laps you do - but you'll go through fuel a lot quicker on track than on the road. Best bet is just to fill it right up, and that'll do until you head home.

Gord
25-05-2008, 10:05 PM
Couldn't have said it better myself !

I'll be leaving my house at 4:30 so will get there at 5:20 ISH

Easty-5
26-05-2008, 01:03 AM
Magic, il be at my dads in stirling so will be leaving from there. Which way do you go Gord as could maybe meet you somewhere and then follow you, if its on the way for you.

Gord
26-05-2008, 05:08 PM
If you're in Stirling then you'd be better going the Kincardine bridge mate. I'm heading towards the Forth Road Bridge, its easy to get to from there.

PS Tam ( S413AND (http://106owners.co.uk/forums/member.php?u=2421) ) are you coming ? I'd really like to see the AX pass the 600bhp Evo in the flesh this time !

S413AND
26-05-2008, 10:45 PM
Tam with the AX is someone else (AXO16V) - don't think he's on this forum. Doubt he'll be up at this one - but i'll ask him and find out.

Easty - If you're coming across Kincardine, you'll pick up the directions for Knockhill at the main roundabout outside Kincardine as you're heading towards Kinross.

Easty-5
26-05-2008, 10:52 PM
Yea thats the way i went last time. Is there still loads of roadworks??

S413AND
26-05-2008, 11:13 PM
At Kincardine - i'm fairly sure. Haven't been along there in months. But after Kincardine you can get to Knockhill in 15 mins if the roads empty, or 25 mins if you're driving sensibly.

Easty-5
26-05-2008, 11:33 PM
Nice one thanks buddy :)

Gord
27-05-2008, 12:03 AM

S413AND
27-05-2008, 12:46 AM
Yeah - fairly sure you do (BugsyMalone ??? )

My car is a s/c VTR (reg S413AND)
Tam's car is a S/c 16v Ax (reg AXO16V)

I know Tam through meeting him loads of times at Kames and Knockhill, and as i only live about 10 miles from Knockhill i quite often head up and give him a loan of my camcorder & mount so we can get some footage of his lines and times.

Whats the rules on passengers/spectators/other drivers?

Gord
28-05-2008, 05:16 PM
Passengers have to sign in and wear helmets. Drivers are the same. overtake on the left, they should move to the right to let you past.

Spectators are free. You'll have to pay to hire helmets - so if you've got a passenger take one for them too.

Quite a decent list :D

Can't wait to see the Ultima / 996 / Megabusa / Tuscan. And more importantly how well the Ax gets on next to them.

Gord
28-05-2008, 06:57 PM
I thought you were Tam as you have his AX on your vids haha ! What you taking?

Yeah, I can't wait to see it in the flesh. He beats the 600bhp Evo's that Bruce Taxi's make, which have spent 30 grand on.

Can my passenger do a few laps in my car, or do i have to pay extra?

Gord
28-05-2008, 10:38 PM
There was talk of the passenger being able to do it. Not sure though. Look on www.trackscotland.co.uk and see if you can see anything about it

Easty-5
28-05-2008, 10:46 PM
Oh yea, said extra drivers are free, magic. My dad might want to do a few laps, make him feel young again and remind him of the days (many decades ago) when he was young and had a scirocco GTi (sp)

Also, he majorly under-estimates my car so hopefully him doing a few laps might make him change his opinion lol.

I cant wait for this :D

Gord
28-05-2008, 10:47 PM
haha aye, he'll see its a fast wee bastard !

My dad is coming up too, so no doubt he'll be asking for a few laps in mine. Can't really say no haha.

Hopefully I'll have my slicks for then. Trying to get alloys that fit are being a nightmare.

Easty-5
28-05-2008, 10:54 PM
Lol thats good, i wont be the only one with my dad then haha.

My bro might be there aswell but only to watch and see the Ultima GTR.

Should be a close race with that huh....LOL

Gord
28-05-2008, 10:55 PM
2 of my mates are coming up to watch too, everyone brings someone. Ends up being a good laugh.

Easty-5
28-05-2008, 10:58 PM
Owell thats good then, was wondering if i should take more than one person. Since its my first one don't want to be the odd one out if you get me lol.

What would you suggest doing as preperation on the car for the day? Oil change etc?

Gord
28-05-2008, 11:58 PM
Oil top up is all I do, but should be ok cos I done it for Crail, if you have 30psi in your tyres then bring it down to about 27psi before you go out on track

Easty-5
29-05-2008, 08:13 AM
Ok thanks for the tip. Can you sort your tyres at knockhill itself or do you do it at a petrol station nearby?

S413AND
29-05-2008, 11:48 AM
Take a wee tyre pump with you. Or try borrow one when you get there.
Check oil / water / tyres / brake pads beforehand. That's about as much prep as i normally do beforehand.

The Bruce's Taxi's that normally go up are only about 340/360 bhp - their Time Attack one is a lot more apparently. I'm hoping to have my VTR back in a state that its drivable by the 9th. But i doubt it too be honest - having trouble to find the time to do bits and i keep finding new bits to sort.

Gord
29-05-2008, 04:16 PM
I heard they were both 600bhp and have had thousands spent on them

Easty-5
29-05-2008, 04:25 PM
Gord, where are you sorting your tyres?

Gord
29-05-2008, 04:53 PM
When I get there. I have a pump that plugs into the fag socket

Easty-5
29-05-2008, 06:40 PM
any chance i could get a wee shotty?? :D

Gord
29-05-2008, 08:17 PM
Of course

£5 per tyre

Gord
29-05-2008, 08:55 PM
Just so you guys know, its fully booked. They do take reserve bookings though.

35 cars here we come !!

Easty-5
29-05-2008, 10:01 PM
Woo cant wait!!

How long roughly do you think we will get on track with there being so many cars?

Gord
29-05-2008, 10:07 PM
I think the limit on track at one time is 25 cars ( not to sure ) so you could get the whole 2 hours if you really wanted. But I'll probably only do about 30 or so laps.

DeekB
29-05-2008, 10:09 PM

Roadworks just outside Kinross on the way to Powmill, but only holds you up for 2/3 mins. Other than that the road should be fine from J6 M90.

Failing that you can turn off at J4 M90 and go up from the other direction.

Cars still not got half the parts in it, so won't be taking it up - but going up for a wee while for a look anyhow.

one of my mate timed it a few times one 67sec and a 68sec but was held up quite a few times down duffus and through chicane but the Yokohama a048 tyres helped me ;-)

Good video !! You need to work on your hands though, especially for that hairpin ! !

Gus
15-06-2008, 05:22 PM
Yea I know what you mean, the rack isn't as quick as I'd like tho. You can just get round the hairpin by crossing your arms (hands in the 9 and 3 position) but its a struggle! It also doesn't help having to jump for the indicators all the time!

Aye I know, there was 43 PAID cars on Monday night, and although 4 or 5 of them ended up dieing after a few laps the track was still busy, even I was finding it hard to get a clean lap without having to let someone past.

I was really close to saying something on TrackScotland. They say they want 35 spaces but at the end of the day if you turn up with the money they ain't going to say no. Maybe if a few people complain about how busy it is then maybe they'll keep the numbers down.

Gus
15-06-2008, 08:23 PM
Yea, it was really busy. You could tell by the amount of drivers in the briefing that it was going to be a busy one.

Was there people turning up without booking?

Yeah, after the 35 spaces are filled they do a reserve list, so if people pull out theres still people to make up the numbers ( there has to be 35 cars for it to take place ) but people just turned up and chanced it, and they ain't gonna say no.

His car wasn't running right, and was as fast as a 1.1 is what he was getting at.

Well they probably should sy no, its not very fair to those on the reserve list, or to people who book in advance.

I said something, with Czech's losing me 8 points in my dream team in the space of 15 minutes I was angry lol.

I said the following to Adam on TS

AK wrote: there were 43 paid/ cars booked on the 9th. Too Many. So around 30 is the aim again for this one

Indeed 43 cars was too many. I found it hard getting clean laps in and I know the slower cars hardly got any.

Might wanna take that on board.I was nice about it though.

My grass cutting machine at work has more horse power than a 1.1. Tams AX was all great for 1 lap then things went wrong

They shouldn't allow it, but they are making money out of it, as are Knockhill. They better not have the same kinda numbers at the one in August.

Electrical issues.

Main cable between the battery and the fuseboxes was a bit dodgy so the engine was almost cutting out. Thats why he came in the first time.

'Fixed' it in the pits, went out again and lasted half a lap before the connection became dodgy again.

Would've been good to see it against the Ultima/Black GT3 as well as the white Evo that was flying. Next time.....

That thing sounded mean. I never had the pleasure in having it near me. It seemed to be in the pits when I was out and when I was in the pits he was out. Maybe my driving scared him !

I was speaking to guy in the Ultima, nice guy. He was down at bruntingthorpe the day before doing top speed tests. He was very disapointed with his measley 190mph. He said it was very hot so all the cars were down by about 10% from their run earlier in the year. lol I was following it - very unsucessfully may i add - and it spat the biggest flames i have ever seen out of an exhaust, good job i wasnt any closer or i would have had a bbq'd 106 lol.
