Well I aquired my 106 gti in p/x for my old xsi vts conversion and I was not going to keep it just use as a run around until i got me del sol, however the more i drove it the more I liked it. So this is how that past month has effected it.
I got it as a standard 1997 106 gti in black only mods it had was a powerflow cat back system, groved front discs, red dot pads and apparently a superchip.

Overall it was in very good condition very straight and no major problems.
Only thing that really bothered me was the fact the bonnet was really stone chipped but that can be sorted and the fact it came with no service history.
Some more pics of after I gave her a clean still trying to decide whether to sell or not

Looked quite nice when clean I thought and that sort of swayed me into keeping her to let the fun begin.
However the fun was very short lived as after a week or so at about 90mph one of the cam ladder gaskets blew in a big way leaving my engine looking like this

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0032.jpg

So the repairs begun
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0052.jpg
And it snowed to

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0063.jpg
I stripped the rockers and the started to remove the cam ladders. Try as i might though one bolt just wouldnt come out
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0034.jpg
3 hours later it finally released itself
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0040.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0041.jpg
I had to get 1 replacement rocker bolt and guess what it was different lol all the others were hex but this one was a torx marvelous :)

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0043.jpg
While the engine was in bits I did abit of shopping and after a few days I had this fitted to the car

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0072.jpg

Next I decided to replace me clocks with white dial ones also lower miles but I have no history to prove they are right lol.
This job was not as easy as I expected it required 2 trips to the motorfactors to buy torx sockets and torx allen keys lol

I think they look much better however I have no airbag not due to ripping my sensor in the middle of the steering wheel out in frustration

I then decided my interior was abit boring and practical ;)
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0044.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0045.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0046.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0047.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0048.jpg
I was going to just get leathers but decided I wanted to have the track look but also compete in hillclimbs and sprints at some point to so buckets were the way forward
Let the stripping begin
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0067.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0068.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0069.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0070.jpg
After it was stripped decided I should have got seats first as I found some after and had to go and get them in 2 del sols with the roof down in the rain not very cool looking.
Decided to start the car up as it had been standing for a few days after sealing all the gaskets and something must have gone wrong as the ening sounded like it was eating itself and when i turned it off I could remove the cam belt by hand and im sure thats a bad thing.
The result????
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0110.jpg
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0111.jpg
That would be my old head with 6 yes 6 bent exhaust valves so we thing the belt must have slipped a few teeth.
So off it went to the garage being towed with no seats in lol.
Came back after having a new head and head gasket, cambelt and tensioner to so at least I shouldnt have to worry for a while.
Anyway next was the job of fitting my new seats
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0076.jpg

http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0079.jpg
I really like them and they are quite comfy to which is a bonus and now the engine was back together to

Next now it was running got a bit bored one night and did this.
As some of you may remember I have this theme on my old 106 and I intend to continue it to this car to

Needs redoing really but just wanted to see what it would be like I will let you all decide
Final thing for now was to get rid of the 106 gti alloys and get something abit more how should I say......Tracky
So a nice set of anthrasite 205 gti speedlines arrived all the way from scotland all with brand new yoko tyres to
http://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z92/jasonvts88/Photo-0093.jpg
