After much stalling I've decided to start a blog for the progress of my little beauty!
I've made a vow to try and do as much as I can on the car whilst spending as little as possible, so it'll mean rummaging through ebay, scrappies and sales everywhere and getting my hands dirty!
I'll also use the blog as a log of spenditure..! Which will be fun.....
The car also has only two problems atm that need to be solved before anything, hideous brakes and needs new wishbone bushes, two things easily sorted!
Ok.. introductions first!
1997 106 XS
Indigo Blue
Painfully original
93k odd miles on the clock
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/tada.jpg
Planned Stuff(bought):
14" 205 pepperpot TTL Alloys (bought off ebay for £40 for a set of 5):
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/ttl.jpg
Reason being.. they are not seen in 106s as much as 15s, they are cheaper than 15s and they are based on the T16 rally car which is always a good thing!
They have however been giving me a massive headache because of offset and wheel bolts (of ebay for £5.50 for the set of 12 normal bolts+4 lockable ones btw!).. can't seem to make them sit right!!
Momo jet steering wheel (bought from halfords for £49.99! I love bargain corners!) and S-racing wheel boss (of ebay for £15):
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/momojet.jpghttp://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/wheelboss.jpg
Just need to find some steering wheel screws because it was the only thing missing from the box!
M5-style wing mirrors+backing plates (of ebay for £10):
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/mirrorpass.jpghttp://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/mirrordri.jpg
I don't usually like aftermarket wing mirrors because they look tacky but my driver's side wing mirror is broken and these where dirt cheap so..
Planned (not bought/done yet):
Suspension kit (not sure yet what route to take.. bilstein b8s? or koni sports? humm...)
106 GTI brake conversion (or a 206 GTI conversion.. if I manage to get my hands on the calipers of either..)
GTI bodykit - or something along those lines.. i managed to get a back bumper for £10.50 but I'm having a hard time sourcing the rest.. I;ve been toying with the idea of creating some arch flares instead... hmmm..
Full exhaust inc. mani - keeping the budget in mind I'll probably go for the raceland mani + supersprint system
Raceland or BMC-style induction kit
And that's it for the first stage.. bigger and better plans for the 2nd!
I'll keep on posting pics of progress as and when I find time to buy and fit stuff!!

It looks lovely but it's giving me a bloody nightmare!!
Davo, I'll try to put everything as soon as but...
Nothing's easy in this car.. I've try putting the wing mirrors on.. pretty straight forward you would think.. but no.. the bloody screws don't fit the backing plates which means I need to go and find screws that do!!
Also.. anyone knows anywhere where I can find the screws to attach my steering wheel to the boss? looked everywhere with no luck!
I'm also going to start refurbishing the wheels today, some are a bit kerbed and have bubbles so I better sand down to metal and then prime with etch primer, filler and then white paint.. I think.. Anyone has pics of the 1.6 pepperpots in white?
Oh well.. as for the updates..
UPDATE:
Carplan alien air freshner - DONE

Well, I've been collecting stuff for the last couple of weeks.
Every day had stuff coming in! yay!
The best thing to arrive was my BMC DIA induction kit (of ebay after being used for a week for £30)!
Loved it so much that I couldnt wait for the silicone hoses to arrive so off to homebase to buy some ducting and this is the final product (excuse the rather disgusting engine bay.. got a nice 5L bottle of GUNK waiting to get in there.. just need to find a pressure washer):
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/enginebay_DIA.jpg
The strut brace (off ebay again for £23) also arrived this week and that went in pretty quick!
Got busy with the brakes as well. Found some of a VTS (off ebay for £10) just needs some cleaning and a lick of paint and they are ready.
Quick update on other stuff:
Wheels are still being stripped in the toilet.. can be arsed to be honest.. hence I've put the back alloy wheels in the car whilst I paint the front ones..
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/backwheel.jpg
The M5 mirrors also went in.. and came out the same day.
Not sure if its the backing plate who are stupidly big and fiddly or if they just look stupid but I don't like'em.. so OEM back in!
Sourced an exhaust backbox, 3" peco which I will pick up tomorrow, and I'm waiting for a superprint centre section (de-cat) from kam racing as well so all that will be going in next week.

you know the ducting makes sense!
looks like some good progress mate, im about to buy some VTS brakes for mine.
Did the e-tech make much of a difference, did you notice?

project looks sweet pal

Smiff,
Ducting makes a lot of sense !
I'm trying to find smooth wall ducting though.. and a bloody place where to put the ducting!
The e-tech is not too bad, but then again I've yet to put a good suspension set-up on so if it does make any difference I will not notice until then!
Jon B,
Thanks for the offer but I've got myself a pair of VTS brakes already!
Might be interested in a rear beam/calipers set up though ;P
Quick update:
Due to being almost impossible to find arches and skirts from the GTI I went the saxo route and got some skirts and arches of a VTs.
But instead of going all "saxo side-profile" on it I'll trim the excess side mouldings of until I'm left with only the arches.
(If any one is feelingcourageous with the photoshop and wants to try this look I'll be happy to provide stock photos :P)
Brake Calipers are being painted at the moment, and I'm waiting for the rest of the bits to arrive to put the brakes next week (drilled/grooved discs, pads and braided hoses)

no worries pal my mates got afew sets of rear calipers for sale :)

Sheepy,
True true.. but it badly needs a respray.. The bonnet is chipped to smitherins and each piece of the body kit is a diferent colour!
Btw.. the roar of the BMC... oh.. my.. god.. *Grinning like silly*

Long time since an update! Been working too hard..
Haven't done much on the car lately, just tidying up a few bits and pieces, but I decided to start doing some work to get it finished as soon as.
So here's a quick update:
Found a pretty cheap Peco 3" backbox which I was a bit scared would sound like a badly perforated exhaust but I found to be actually quite quiet on low revs and to have a nice roar on higher revs. perfect!
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/exhaust.jpg
It is sitting a bit low for my tastes (bearing in mind I still have the std XS bumper which makes it look even lower) so I'll buy new smaller mounts in the future to pull it up a bit.
I got tired of electrical-taping the bloody alloy flexi-ducting so I went out to my local b&q and bought 2m lenght of 68mm downtubing and a few 90º bends and spent tonight doing this (the top one):
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/air_duct.jpg
The duct on the top will be going in tomorrow to substitute the bottom one.
I'm in the proccess of making a air scoop using the same groove in the rad plastic thing as the original airbox to connect to the new ducting so watch this space.
The inlet-to-airbox ducting will also be replaced tomorrow with a similiar duct setup.
Exterior wise, I've decided to go for smoothed saxo VT* side arches, with GTI backbumper and XS front bumper with splitter (I'm also going to be taking the fogs out and putting brake air ducts instead)
Maybe I'll also finally paint the TTL alloys aswell.. maybe..
Now.. a kind of idea/question thing..
I've read somewhere in this forum that putting the xsi head on a 8v will be a good upgrade because the xsi came with a mild cam.
What if I put the cam itself into the head of the 1.6 8v? worthwhile? or not really..?
Future plans:
Find a rocker cover, polish it until it has no more shine to give and lacquer it to death.
Get busy with a spanner and put the VTS brakes on.
Painting the bloody alloys!
Sanding, painting and installing the VT* side skirts.

not realy worth it imo pal. the cam is obnly mild alone. what u wanna do is get the xsi head ported and polished and do the straight swap of the two. good results shown from that so far. but u need an xsi loom and ecu to run it off ideally!...
regarding your VTR kit. it will unfortunatly look ridiculous without the VTs back bumper also. as the arches without smooothing into one never meet perfectly. but u can use the front bumper but they also wont meet but it isnt as noticeable. (talking from experience on both subjects here pal) lol.
progress is coming along nicely. car is a lovely colour. and all XS have shit paintwork or engines. its part of their caracter. if ur realy unlucky u have one like mine where it has shit paintwork and a shit engine until u fully re-build it!

Well, last sunday there I was happily driving around when a strong smell of burning oil not unlike a big o'diesel hit my nostrils without warning, so I swiftly pulled into a quite side road and opened the bonnet and I found the WHOLE engine bay full of oil!
Not a patch.. not a squirt but a full respray in oil black and the leak wasnt so much a leak but a river of oil pouring down the head!
After the initial shock I tried to find the culprit for this so I check the usual oily bits to no avail.. except one.. the bloody oil cap!
Well, I took this as an opportunity to do some work so..
I went to peugeot and order a new rocker cover seal
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/new_seal.jpg
Then drove home, took the knackered oil cap
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/knackered_cap.jpg
..and placed it in the nearest bin and order one of these
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/new_cap.jpg
for £16.99 (inc p&p) from http://www.extremeautoaccessories.co.uk
And starting started painting the rocker cover gold
http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/nn236/hernanicorreia/rocker_cover.jpg
I am also making my very own homemade oil catch tank of which I will put a guide soon on the DIY section
I've ordered some polyrace wishbone bushes of rally design as the car is making really terrible noises now and I ordered some 22mm flexible silicone hose for the oil catch tank above as well!
This pretty much sums up the last 3-4 days
Oh by the way does anyone know of a good scrappy in south london or there abouts?
the scrappies in croydon are crap..

Well today I found the true source of the oil spillage that plagued my engine bay!
Although the faulty oil cap was partly to blame, when I fitted the new items it still leaked which made me think about the dreaded head gasket.
So I decided to stuff it and go back to basics and rebuild the head from scratch.
So I check the oil level and was, obviously very low on oil so I decided to make a last trip to buy some oil when it dawn on me the cause of the oil spray!
Quick detour to the nearest peugeot dealer, and out I come with a brand spanking new dipstick!!
the old one had the locking plastic thing completely burnt off which meant that when the engine was hot enough and I accelarated the oil came out of the tube and sprayed everything on its way.
Any way, my engine bay is now clean enough so I decided to paint the covers gloss black.
I am still rebuilding the head though, and giving the car a nice good service as its gagging for it.
Photos to follow..

Another update
Went to pick up my VTR rear bumper (for £5 btw) and guess what the guy had on the back of his truck?
A side damaged laguna.. with the splitter still intact!
So I asked how much he wanted for it and £5 later I had it in the back of the car.
Going to paint it gloss black to match the bump strips and it'll go in pretty soon afterwards!
