View Full Version : Fred's Glanza - FMIC 3/1/09 Videos!!!!
Riiiiiiiiiiiiight, ive had this car a while now and i know alot of people want them so i thought i would make a blog to keep y'all upto date ;)
First off, a bit of porn. My old GTi.
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04544.jpg
Miss you....
Well I bought the car about 2 months ago now and it looked like this.
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04592.jpg
Spec was:
Tein Coilvers
Cusco adjustable top mounts
HKS SSQV BOV (dump valve)
HKS mushroom filter
OZ Super Tourismo WRC wheels, white 15"
Front and rear OEM strut braces
Spec R turbo timer

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04596.jpg
It had a shitty APEXI big bore 4" exhaust which sounded wank so I took it down to Janspeed and got them to custom make me a 2.5" bore exhaust with a nice 2.5" rolled in exit. Nice and subtle.
Some more pics with exhaust fitted.
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04591.jpg
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04590.jpg
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04595.jpg
So then I set about modding it to what I wanted.
Firstly I bought a boost gauge and oil temp gauge. Good to know whats going on.
Then I bought an A pillar mounting kit
Also a HKS actuator. For all you turbo noobs, the actuator basically controls the boost level the turboo kicks out. The HKS one is adjustable so you can set the boost to what you want.
When I went to fit the new actuator I noticed my manifold had a crack in it...
This often happens because cylinder 3 is very restrictive and it gets waaayy too hot for the iron to cope with so it cracks. So then I had to order me a new manifold. Here are some pics of the old manifold off to show the crack, or cracks as it later turned out.

looks good.. what kind of bhp is it putting out?
So new manifold turned up... custom made for moi. Cost alot....
But its sexy

New manifold fitted with HKS actuator
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04625.jpg
I wasnt sure what to set the boost at so I had a guess with the length and went for a little drive.
It spiked to 15 psi where it slammed into the fuel cut (electronic safety feature to prevent the engine running lean and detonating). So i pootled back home to turn it down.
I thought I turned it down but I actually turned it up... lol oops when i was testing it it boosted to 16 psi and again slammed into the fuel cut and tore a boost pipe..
So then I had 0 psi of boost and I now need a new pipe. hahaha but it was quick lol

it looks so sexy
me wants :)
cracking car fred
I got bored a week or so ago and so I took my dump valve off the seal it to get some turbo chatter on the go. The noise the HKS made was so in your face it didnt agree with my ears...
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04630.jpg
Its not for sale if anyone wants it £100 posted ;)
Here is a shot of the gauges mounted on the pillar
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04631.jpg
The oil temp doesnt work yet because I need an oil filter relocation kit and a sandwhich plate to screw the sender into before I can wire it up.
Couple more shots of the exhaust, it sounds sooo sexy.
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04634.jpg
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l2/fredjudd/DSC04632.jpg
Here is a video of it with the original manifold and dump valve.
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=CccNT7tZqlk
It sounds alot more mean now with the new mani on.
looks good.. what kind of bhp is it putting out?
its 135 standard so with the boost upped a little and the new exhaust it should be around 145-150 maybe.
Anyway as the car stands now it needs a new bit of boost piping which i will be ordering tomorrow from captin samco ;)
Future mods:
Need to increase fueling somehow, to match the boost when i turn it up more. Prob get a RRFPR and new fuel pump
Frount mounted intercooler (top mount is wank)
Rear ARB
Fit water spray kit for intercooler to keep it cold
Fit R32 skyline brakes up front
Get a new turbo - CT9 (standard) with the TD04 internals (impreza) :D
And when thats all done up the boost some more
and last but not least,
build my own stand alone ECU.
Im going to build my own ecu using the megasquirt kit. It will be have launch control, flat shift and anti lag when its done. Also it can manage water/methanol injection and NOS if I need it do. :D:D:D:D
it looks so sexy
me wants :)

Yea eventaully, but I want to get the launch control and flat shift working first.
Anti lag is a bonus for ASBO giggles

Na, want a Glanza stripped out runnin a safe 10psi 170bhp but not dunno where to start and don't wanna throw thousands at another car:(
fair nuff, that might be hard to acheive at 10 psi though. Add me to msn if you want mate.

Just an ambition of mine  obviously with some uprated internals not just from standard but don't wanna go above that really.
Gonna have a good look into em but scary thing is they hold their price better than a GTI :( 4k would be my tops and I want some of me preferred mods ready done to it for that price :o
do you want a glanza or a starlet though?
Bushi
13-04-2008, 11:26 PM
Didn't think there was a huge amount of difference anyways between the GT turbos and Glanzas?

samco77on
17-04-2008, 11:43 AM
wot about ur boost pipe? u ordered that? or u liking constant lag? lol
hhahaa, i have sourced a second hand one which should be here tomorrow.
Lag is fuuun....
I desperately want to get ti back together so I can set the boost correctly, oh and reply to me on msn! I think I have worked out how the bleed valves work.
Think I might lower the car a little bit more today...
106turbo
17-04-2008, 11:54 AM
A bleed valve is used to bleed off pressure to the wastegate solenoid thereby allowing more boost before the wastegates are opened
samco77on
17-04-2008, 11:57 AM
ahh the joys of coilovers. im not on msn mate. im in a lecture. meant to be doing work, but after 2 bottles of wine(for £5) last nite.im still feelin pretty pissed.

Looks Good, any plan for the TD04? ;):cool:
How do you find it handles compared to the Gti, it was a weigh up between the Rallye and a Glanza and only decided to get the Rallye because of its handling, theres a few Glanza's in Doncaster and i oftern see them and think "Did i make the right choice" :)
oem handling is nothing like a rallye...
much worse lol
but a few choice mods and its getting alot better, hopefully this ARB will make a massive difference.
TD04.... nah TD04 internals in the CT9 casing ;)
Well the whiteline ARB is on...
Oh my god :) See you boys on track ;)

out of interest, what is the next track day you are doing?
i really really want your/a glanza.
mmmmmm...maybe one day when insurance doesn't rape my rump.
just out of interest thread, how is yours insured? is it insured as a 1.3 turbo? as some companies don't even recognise the turbo or gt turbo..
mines insured as a turbo i made sure of that :)

looks nice fella, love the colour. what boost you going for? My A'pexi AVC-R is arriving tommorow so i will have a spare bleed valve set dead on 1bar with locking screw if you want it, but im sure you'll sort it out tbh.
I have an adjustable actuator to set my boost ;)
Well the ARB is on!

fair doo's fred nice motor was lookin into part x'ing the other day on pistonheads but i declined as i have some big plans for the gti.seen this at fcs though an looked lush that manifold is well tidy where u get that made like?
There is a guy off a starlet forum who makes custom ones to order. Hes based in Malta so he can get SS cheaper than over here :)
Sam, pipe down about your ride quality. mine grips more....
dannygti
29-06-2008, 03:00 PM
fred, have you got any more plans for this? are you going to give it more power? what is it now?
Its around the 150-160 bhp mark, but I dont know for sure as im not gay enough to get it on the rollers.
135 standard + more boost, new exhaust and mani and induction so a 15-25 bhp rise sounds about reet.
Plans are:
Front mount intercooler
Air filter relocation
Bigger turbo
New fuel pressure regulator
More boost
Some bigger brakes
Better tyres
Water injection so I can retard the ignition like a mofo
also looking at naughty add ons for the standalone like flat shift and laucnh control :)
dannygti
29-06-2008, 03:15 PM
sounds cool man, what turbo are you looking at? wouldnt shauns be good for what you want? by next year you should have as much power as ill have ;)
titch
29-06-2008, 03:16 PM
Hows the home made ECU coming on nowadays?
Noooo I dont want any of this GT25 crap.
My turbo housing with the impreza internals :)
dannygti
29-06-2008, 04:13 PM
sounds like your doing your homework fred, what sort of power is your target?
200 at the wheels.
CT9/TD04 hybrid at 1.2 bar should give that and if for some reason is doesnt I will install some gas...
quikpug0121
29-06-2008, 05:37 PM
haha seen it cruisin thru salisbury early thi mornin.....dint even say hi
lol:D
Yeah Im sure I clocked you in Amesbury by Solestace park on Thursay, I work out there now :) You got a bonnet scoop?
dannygti
29-06-2008, 06:23 PM
200bhp atw, it should really fly then buddy, are glanza's heavy? i dont know much about them but seeing yours really makes me like them.
Bit heavier than a 106. But I dont intent to strip it out or anything, with 230-240 bhp it wont matter..
but i do want some better seats, i got tired of getting flung on the handbrake level...
dannygti
29-06-2008, 06:34 PM
what have you got in mind mate as im selling mine in a couple of months :)
I wont have enough dollar for seats for a while yet.
Order of bits goes
FMIC
Brakes lol
dannygti
29-06-2008, 06:42 PM
i see, get some 4 pots man, they are really good. are you intending on doing any track days this/next year fred?
Yea next year will be track time.
There is an AP racing kit... Which I really need to persuade myself to get dispite it being double the price of the wilwoods...
but will I ever warrant AP?
dannygti
29-06-2008, 06:48 PM
no not really, they are nice for that bling factor but it would be impossible to tell the difference in performance. i would get willwood and invest in good pad and discs/fluid. you will see 10x more benfit.
Yeah its what im thinking...
but to be honest my brakes are ok for the road use, but on a track they are uber wank.
quikpug0121
29-06-2008, 07:00 PM

30-06-2008, 09:41 AM
fred all ill say is FMIC 1 bar of boost and errrr 179.2bhp in the glanza y0!! lol
ive told you that you should just get the willwoods as the ap's are so bloody expensive, ill be investing in some for my glanza
Daz, mine will be more than 180 at 1 bar, manifold y0!
haha yea but I need the fueling mods as i am right on the limit at the mo so I think I might turn it down a notch to prevent det...

Would have thought it would have been better air flow with the bonnet on as the scoop is forcing air on the IC where as with no bonnet the air flow is only moving across the top?!
I guess you beat the Mundano! :p
106_Andy
03-08-2008, 01:21 AM
Remember Kids, No bonnet = Boost ;)
Looks smart there freddie, just keep the hood on it lol.
Only took the bonnet off because I was spraying the intercooler with CO2 before the run.

It would've thought it would have dragged like a **** with no bonnet on.

03-08-2008, 01:27 PM
Did that red Mondeo beat your micra?
Bet you would have got a slightly quicker time with the bonnet on.
Mondy got whooped.
Nah heatsoak is chronic when the engine is boiling hot, sun beating down. Bonnet was off to make it easier to spray with the CO2 on the line.

Useless now you have painted the reverse light but if you get the wring plug from a Uk one for the brake lights and fit it to the top of the rear light cluster where there is only a single filament bulb you can use the second filament as the fog light. Thats what i did when i had my Glanza.

Could be lower like...
Black wheels and it'll be even more spunk worthy. FMIC, Facelift bumper and a set of recaro's and you'll be laughing, then finish off with some forged internals and a nice TD04, or even possibly a TD05 ;)
Loving the foglight btw, pretty genius.

Not bad Fred - Still makes me want one to lol Seen a lush Silver one when out in my Rallye earlier, shame he was driving the other way really.
That bumper mod common for those FMIC s?
Easty-5
27-12-2008, 07:25 PM
Nice Fred. It's a tight fit getting the HDI cooler on huh? Towing eyes are a knightmare.
Kenich; Yea you needto chop the front bumper to fit an HDi IC, 8infact you need to chop it with most IC's but some people have managed to fabricate different brackets so they can mount it further back so they don't need to chop the bumper. Best way to do it IMO is to get the factlift bumper, looks better and not too much chopping involved. I wouldn't worry too much about the numberplate. Mine is still in my window. Only been stopped once and they just said I best put it on the front as the traffic cops may not like it being there.
Here's mine with a facelift bumper and HDi IC:
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd188/easty-5/Glanza%20clean/02112008142.jpg
Ah Jamie, you live!
You got custom brackets on yours? I made some new bits of angle out of SS for the top but i havnt got to the bottom yet.
You got a pic of the bottom of yours?
Also, I have the JDM lip so i win haha
Not bad Fred - Still makes me want one to lol Seen a lush Silver one when out in my Rallye earlier, shame he was driving the other way really.
That bumper mod common for those FMIC s?
Ew silver?! man your gay haha all about the white, black or red ones these days.
Yeah FMIC makes them look a bit more no nonsense and less micra in a kit.
Easty-5
27-12-2008, 07:35 PM
Yea I live mate, been working away so not been around much.
No, just used the standard brackets but was a bitch fitting apparently. I have put some silicon hose round the piping on the drivers side as the towing eye was cutting into the pipe! It's that tight.
No picture but can get one for you in the morning is you want. Its simply just two straight, retangular pieces of SS on the bottom side.
Yea I do love that lip. Its the optional toyota one ain't it?
ooh yes it is the original one.
I mean did you use the HDi provided brackets on the bottom?
Ive not even got to the pipework yet thats tomorrows task i feel...
