well i guess its about time i got myself a progress blog up and running, so here we go....
saw this little puppy on ebay, had a siezed block so it was abit of a gamble but i put a bid in, and to my suprise i won!
decided as i have a dead vts at home it would make a good little project for the summer, so i got it home and cracked on with some work
92 xsi, 67k on the clock, everything is in mint condition apart from the roof being slightly fadded, and a small scuff on the bumper! other than that its fine, no bent chassis, no rust..... bargin!
Finally got the bloody thing home...

^^^Putting the Saxo dash in aswell???
Sounds good though buddy!!!
in two minds about the dash, cars only done 67k so it really is in mint condition inside and out! the interior seems pretty tidy to me so i think im gonna keep it for abit, just to get it running, then might trial fit the vts dash in a couple of months or so :]
Good project this, will keep an eye on this thread:)

behind that sound deadening on the bulkhead is either a big rusty hole or the cleanest bit of the car ;)
cleanest bit of the car is what im going for, if its all rusty, i wont be too impressed lol
Some goodies arrived for me in the post today :D
Two new track rod ends, and a fat roll of black heat wrap!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00049.jpg

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00061.jpg
Also got these today, came with the car, only just found out the spec of them etc, should drop the car by 30mm, when you consider the added weight of the vts lump though, im guessin it will be more like 40-50mm..... it will handle like shit but they`l do till i get my new suspension set up sorted :)

Nice work so far mate, look forward to seeing it all done... And you paid £194 for that car  ohhh i envy you lol... i paid 230 for my 95 1.1, and even though it ran, it was in worse shape body wise than that, and I still had to do a complete rebuild to stop it burning oil... So for the same work and less money I could have had that car ... I hate you :p lol sorry just doin a bit of dreaming here, but anyway, nice car, and good luck with the conversion.

Also do those gear linkages stop the wobble on the gearstick when in gear? Mine seems to be very wobbly!

the heat wrap reduces heat in the engine bay given off by the manifold.
the linkages have reduced all the wobble for me, i highly recommend them, there bloody fantastic lol

Ive got a quick shift on mine and was really impressed with it, made shift travel shorter, and tightened up 'wobble' in gear lever, so might invest in some new linkages too if you say there good?!
theres a company in totton near me called xsportracing that sell the linkages for £45 plus £3 for postage..... il try and fish out the contact details once im at work!
there easy enough to fit, jack one side of the car up and put WD40 on the old linkages and let it soak in for half an hour or so, then theyl pop off and the new once simply pop on. :)

I then got the fuel lines from the vts, the ones that run inside the car, from the bulkhead to the tank, and then chopped a length of pipe that i needed. i was hoping that the new connectors would just pop in! i was wrong!
So anyway, my tool of choice..........
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00158.jpg
Heated the ends of the pipe up with the extreme "Boots" hair dryer and it was pretty straight forward after that :D
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00157.jpg
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00159.jpg
and there you have home made fuel lines......... dunno how safe thy are, or how long they will last, but they will have to do for the moment :)
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00160.jpg
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00161.jpg
More progress to follow soon guys!
about time you done some more you lasy ass **** :p
im nearly finished you cheeky b*****d!
How much have you done then lol?????
Managed to get the return fuel line done today. fitted the connector to the fuel pipe, went to trial fit it only to find out it was way to big! basicly i gathered that you needed a 90 degree connector of some form, so i had a rumage round and found this....
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00002.jpg
There clearly is a god! tried to make up the new line but nothing was fitting, and the hair dryer wouldnt heat the pipes enough to stretch them!
so ended up using this.....
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00001.jpg
Not the best thing to be using on fuel lines.... but ow well!
If at first you dont succeed, burn it, and it will work.
Fingers crossed il have everything done tomorrow, all wiring should be finished, bumper lights etc should be on, fan set up should be wired in etc....
Updates....
Havnt really been able to do much in the terms of major progress latley..... everything that i need to do to get the car running is going wrong! so things are going very slowly
Although i bought a loom to fitt, iv decided to build my own, which i must say is proving to be a right ballache. did intend to copy the loom i bought but as its a 97 gti loom and i have a 97 vts loom, although there completly the same in terms of what they do... the wires are completly different colours! which means its taking even longer to make.
On a lighter note though i recived my leather gear knob and gaitor today, thanks to girlracer/cherry, also decided to sand down my cam covers and respray them....
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/camcover2.jpg
Think it looks alot smarter now :)
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/camcover.jpg
Then this happened!
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/camcover3.jpg
^^^ wasnt very impressed by that!
Hopefully a guy from rcd-performance is gonna pop round tomorrow and lend a hand gettin the mass of wires all sorted. spoke to him on the phone and he seems to know his stuff, so finigers crossed by sunday, it should be running.

Good progress mate! ^^ that is disgusting! best get that birdy poo off quick! I had that happen to me when i was driving along and it went from my bonnet to the back window! Musta had the runs...
^^^^ got the power washer out this morning, cars nice and clean again :)

ergh that poo is gross. reminds me when i was coming back from Yarmouth with some friends and the girl in the passenger seat was rather disgusted at having to sit next to an almighty one on the passenger window (covered half of it) all the way back as we had nothing to clean it off with :p

coming on nicely
Been trying to get the car wired up for feckin ages now. nothings bloody working!
got a whole day wednesday to crack on and get it working!
if not its for sale...............wish me luck lol
neighbour just dropped this round for me today..... he works in a scrap yard so he save it for the pug
bit tatty but shel be getting sprayed on the weekend
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC000342.jpg
Job`s a good`un
Change of plan! was contemplating sellin up as im having wiring trouble! had a long hard think about it though...... and iv decided to send the looms to either pug1off, frenchsport tuning, or RCD performance to be modified into a plug and play unit
will be gettin sent of monday, they said it should be back by friday so hopefully shel be running soon :D
also gonna pop to the local pug dealer tomorrow, pick up a new throttle cable, wishbone bolts, and a hub nut!
got this wednesday off collage so i`l hopefully be fittin the above, and also fitting my 35mm lowering springs, and my new track rod ends.
Update...
Been working on the car since half 7 this morning, and to be honest im further back than i bloody started! Ross from RCD performance came round to lend a hand, he suggested that the best thing to do would be to strip the car and fit the vts interior loom, then simply remove the un-needed wires. so that we did.....
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC000542.jpg
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC000552.jpg
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC000562.jpg
We then fitted the vts engine loom, interior loom, and dash loom, connected the battery etc up, went to fire it up, and **** all happens!!! triple checked every wire, every fuse, but as soon as you turn the key the alarm comes on, even though wer tappin in the right code?
Only thing we can think of is this.....
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC000582-1.jpg
If anyone knows what its for please tell me, otherwise i might end up smashin the 106 to peices!
Cant wait to see how this turns out!
^ it wont turn out at all mate if i cant get this wiring sorted! tis a right ball ache :(

I think its one of the cheaper projects around. The shells can had for next to nothing, good engines are getting hard to come buy though, a rear end damaged VTS/GTI is your best bet :)

whats the insurence gunna be like?
why wouldnt it start? basiclly when i got the loom some of the labels had fallen off and a couple of wires wer cut, so was a BIG pain lol!
in the end it turn out we hadnt connected the earth throught the started motor, and that the live wire wasnt connected to the starter selenoid or something like that!
then there was a rather beefy green wire which we had missed, so we grounded that, but we still coundnt get the fuel pump to prime, turns out that on the vts there is a cut off fuel swith....... the 2 wires that run into that wer cut, so i just joined them in hope that it would solve things and it then fired up firth time
as for insurance.......... best quote iv got at the mo is £801
RCD-Performance
17-06-2008, 09:47 PM
The big green earth that had been cut, was the main earth for the main relay box, so the fuel pump relay had no earth, therefore was not cutting in :)
Beeeeeeeeeeeeep!
throttle cable just arrived.........£23 though, bit steap!
will be cracking on tomorrow after work so might have a vid up of it being driven :)

http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC000842.jpg
It also came to my attention, that i dont really like having people in the back of my car while driving, so the rear seat, and seat belts........ are no gone.

some how the bolt that holds the strut to the wishbone managed to come out :S god knows how ?
Managed to get it home to check everything over and i can say that there is no chassis damaged.... however, it could do with a new driveshaft though!
Sadly the mothers gone ape shit and has demanded it be off the drive asap or shel smash it up............. and i dont think shes lieing either so im gonna have to sell it :(

Update
been working on the car for most of the day, got the driveshaft fixed. i think its safe to say that i strongly hate droplinks, and any form of ball joint! Grrrr.
filled the gearbox with fresh oil then took it for a drive round the close. clutch is either on or off, so gonna take some getting used too :)
Also tightened the exhaust up cos it was blowing....... however it still sounds like a damp fart so think im gonna take the whole lot of a refitt it with mega amounts of gumgum.
List of things left to do befor MOT:
refit both front seatbelts
refit interior panels
fit radiator fan
refit front bumper, front lights, and indicators
Wire up lights indicators, horn, fogs etc
refit rear bumper
Then do a once over and make sure everythins tiptop before it goes to the garage :)

Update
havnt updated in a while so i thought id let ya know what if been up too. To be honest it hasnt been alot, After the little mis-hap awhile back concerning my wishbone falling off :( i invested in some "uprated" bolt jobbies from a member on here, anyway ther now fitted :)
Also for the time being, the pug still has a standard lower gearbox mount, which in my opinion is shite! so i invested in a new powerflex item :)
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00112.jpg
Anyway, gettin that fitted isnt the problem..... gettin the old mount out however, is.
http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t79/olee88/DSC00130.jpg
tried for 3 bloody hours to get it out, even set fire to the bloody thing! ended up leavin it with my mate that has a 100 tonne press at work, so that should do the job.
Also done some other gay bits n bobs like fit the dash surround and steering wheel....
