Me and a friend have just put a 16v lump in my vtr and i'm having a few running problems. First of all there are quite severe flat spots throughout the revs and also idleing is a bit lumpy. Power steering is also intermittent, often only working for a minute or so after starting up.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like you could have an earth problem

what was the 16v lump doing before it was transplanted? was it doing the same in the donor car?

I brought it when it was already out of the car, the owner smashed the car up apparantly...i sort of knew the guy and a few people said they had seen it running.

I have a new map sensor to try and sort out the flat spots so i'll let you know if that works. The loom was all done by a garage so it would be annoying if it was the earthing points.

check if they soldered the loom conections,
it could maybe be fuelling issues?
mine had flat spots because the fuel return was slightly restricted
But power steering would definatly indicate loose/dodgy electrics as im gussing that wasnt really touched much during the conversion.
