View Full Version : headunit recommendations
not really into the whole in car entertainment thing but i do like having some tunes to listen to so does anyone who knows a fair bit about audio want to give me some recommenations for a good headunit
i'm thinking either pioneer or alpine but dont want anything too flashy or technical just aslong as it'll play mp3's etc i'll be a happy bunny :) oh and i've got about 200 quid to part with
ive got alpine 9855r and i love it!
Anything alpine. most of my friends have alpine and i love them, look stylish and are easy to use
got my alpine HU 2nd hand off ebay 2 years ago. still works perfect. £70 it was.... its the 9828rb. 3 outputs, mp3 playback...cramemd with features!
all my mates have alpine too. cant go wrong.

I have a Pioneer, it's only a cheap looking one (not MP3 or anything) but still looks smart and I've had no problems with it :)
well a local place that does audio has a pioneer one in its got shit loads of things on it i probally wont use though like it been i-pod ready and you can even answer your phone off it
its 200 quid and looks rather nice, its the DEH-P55BT

yeah thats the one james, what do you guys think of it?
The pioneer looks pretty good, im Alpine man myself though :)
The pioneer one looks really good Ste.
The guy that always fits electronics in my family's cars at home always always recommends alpine, so thats what he put in mine I think iv got an 9855 and its brilliant. If you're ever stuck with what to buy, alpine is never a wrong move.
hmmmmmmm think another visit back to aurora on tuesday is on the cards i like the alpine units quite a few mates have had them in the past but i'm quite impressed with pioneer aswell my dvd headunit was pioneer and i got shell a pioneer one for her quiky
i reccommend pioneer ste, top quality for sound and user-bility

Alpine 9855R, the price has come down quite a bit now since it was released.
Lots of features and sound quality is really decent. Got one in mine and now
have on in the GFs Zetec S. Sound quality in both is soo much more clear
and sleak.
Looks really smart too. Just treat them like gold though cause they are known
to be very fragile. I might have to fork out £160 for a new face for mine!
looks a nice unit rushy but i dont want something too fragile
cheers matt,what headunit you running?
ive got an alpine 9857r its pretty much the best alpine on the market, its stylish and has a hell of a lot of features including ipod control, its expensive tho altho i got mine second hand for 120quid
I gotta say im a bit of a sony guy:p
I think whatever headunit you get you learn to love it and never want a different one:P
looks a nice unit rushy but i dont want something too fragile
cheers matt,what headunit you running?
mines a DEH-P7600MP, ive had it for about 3 years and a cant fault it at all, got an ipod adaptor rigged up and a 12cd changer and its perfect, twas bout 300 notes when i bought it so must be under 100 now, hope this helps mate

3 years and still going strong, sounds excellent mate. Dont get me wrong Ste
the alpine headunit is amazing. I seen and heard alsorts of headunits in cars
(no sub and amps) and the quality just didnt match the Alpine. Earlier Alpines
werent even as good.
Kenwood were pretty damn good though too, being honest Sony were the
worst. Good functionality but sounded quite bad.
used to have a kenwood in the saxo was ok but nothing to write home about, wouldnt touch sony headunits with a 20 ft bargepole
i'd say its between an alpine or a pioneer i'm going to have a really good look and chat when i go into aurora again on tuesday

I have a Kenwood. It doesn't play mp3, but otherwise iit is okay. My experience with sony aren't quite as good.
I have to agree: The alpine units have the most sexy look.

it looks really nice, i was thinkin of that one but a bit skint at the mo, but to be fair i'm definatly a sony girl lol. I think they've always had the best sound and looks (well, the older ones anyway) and nice n simple to use :)
matt thats very nice
had a listen to a few different ones yesterday and i think i've found the one that i want :)

hey does anyone know if these are any good... they are in the style of alpine but don't seem to have a maker :/ i was thinking it would be a good option if you want to hook up to a monitor too :)
