Right, from the start.

My first car was an Austin Metro "Sport" 1275cc
Bought for £30
Filmed this:
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?
fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=1275875279 (http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoID=1275875279)

Sold it on for £160. Thanks eBay :)

Next car was a late 1998 pug106 zest3

Pranged that:

http://photos-644.ak.facebook.com/ip002/v64/81/114/503085200/n503085200_66644_9930.jpg

Me after the crash:

So i thought, might aswell get a weekend plaything to customise.
Bought a part finished project:
http://photos-436.ak.facebook.com/ip002/v63/81/114/503085200/n503085200_116436_834.jpg

Really only got it because of the RH Motorsport bodykit and wheels were worth the price of the car.

Work and hoarding started almost instantly:

Easter weekend came up so had 4 days so ripped out the standard interior and fitted the Screens and leather interior to see how it looked:

http://www.saxperience.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=4571&d=1176598668
Half the car was Primer Filled to just seal the metal.

Got up hungover and needing water.
managed to blag an engine hoist from work
(why we have one i dont know)
Decided to rip the 1.1 lump out ready for the paintshop so when the GTi beastie goes in, it'll have a lovely matching paintwork surrounding it.
so anyway, heres the porn:
http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779126_763.jpg
Just basically undid everything then hoited the car up and over the engine.
http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779127_1006.jpg

Upon pulling the little hair dryer engine out,
We found that the previous own had only bolted in some of the wishbones.
Also that the passenger CV Gaiter was duct tape and a cable tie. Nice :S
http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779129_1498.jpg

And here is the little bad boy. all 1124ccs of it
Took an arty shot if anyone wants a nice background pic for their phone or upcoming CD album.
http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779131_1988.jpg

At the lakeside mini meet i was trying to describe my current paint work.
Pictures are better than words:

http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779132_2225.jpg

Seeing as we were throwing a lot of stuff out, we built a base model pug.
Couldnt find any lexus lights to finish it off but you get the idea:
http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779134_2722.jpg

And another of the engine out:
http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779136_3220.jpg

So the 1.1 is out.
The shells been jetwashed and most of the bolts have been found for doors and things so roll on the Re-spray next saturday.
Big thanks to simon, Lee, steve , Ben, Ash and Marky for their help.
Ment i could drink tea, play in the skip and watch. Cheers guys :)

The Making of Mr Rems 106
PART 1. Murphy's Law - If it'll can go wrong, it will
With a smashed up 106 straggling the road and my self in the back of an ambulance slurring away with whatever gas it is they give you, my mind was ticking what i was going to do now my car was in shreads across the asphalt.
After an operation to locate my elbow back in place and fixing 6 screws to hold my snapped lower arm together, i returned home after 3 days in hospital.
Upon getting home, i had some post.
It was from Reg-Transfers. My number plate had officially changed over to my now written off car. M12 REM had begun its life with me at the end of my car.
It only felt fitting that we start with a new 106 and begin to build an unstoppable show beast.
After a drunken evening on eBay. i had
From the original listing, the car looked like this:
http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v63/81/114/503085200/n503085200_116436_834.jpg
Before i had even picked it up, the modifying itch had begun.
Heres my room a week before picking the car up:
http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v63/81/114/503085200/n503085200_196649_4989.jpg

The car arrived and i wasnt impressed. I'll be frank. The car was the definition of Bodge. While i made my mind up on what to do i begun fitting the extras i had in my possession. First the Front TVs:
http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v67/81/114/503085200/n503085200_237245_9619.jpg
Then the interior:
http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v67/81/114/503085200/n503085200_237248_448.jpg
http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v67/81/114/503085200/n503085200_237247_179.jpg
TVs were fitted into some custom rear seat headrests:
http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v73/81/114/503085200/n503085200_242588_5125.jpg
And because i had them aswell as the car already having the fixings, i plugged in some LED undercar gear.
http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v73/81/114/503085200/n503085200_242593_6360.jpg
This was the last evening the car was deemed on the road.
As of the next day, i had time off work and an idea brewing in my head.
Should i keep it, should i sell it.
I was planning to go look at this:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/8/web/236000-236999/236622_1.jpg
But then the test results from the 106s MOT came in.
18 Failures. Looks like i wouldnt be making any money from selling the car as a garden lawn ornament.
So i was stuck with a car with an interior worth more than the whole thing and no way of getting it anywhere as it was deemed a health hazard.
Next update: From WhiteWashed Paint to Gunning Smoothy

djrem

Part 2 : From WhiteWashed Paint to Gunning Smoothy
With the car now in the garage taking up room, my money from my last 106 invested in a two tone piece of MOT failing scrap, i had to weigh up what to do.
It needed a respray,
The body kit re-fitting
New bonnet, new doors,
New brake front and real,
New driveshafts,
Arches rolling,
New gearbox, New alternator, new rear beam, new everything really.
£1800 of car was now reduced to £60 worth of scrap.
Oh **** it i thought. Ive got a roof over my head and ive got a job that supports me, lets do it.
So the transformation began.
First was to strip the car to a shell, get rid of anything the previous owner could have, and probably had have bodged.
Starting at the front, everything was removed bit by bit over the course of the easter weekend:
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v73/81/114/503085200/n503085200_270710_2062.jpg
Ripping off her clothes to show the little hairdryer of an engine running it.
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v73/81/114/503085200/n503085200_270711_2309.jpg
By now the car had become somewhat of a joke where i live and at work. Some people loved it. Usually they were kid on their bikes cycling past on their way to mug an old woman shouting: "Nice car Bruv". All this family i didn't know i had.
Anyway the rest of the world that was sane and knew the vehicle was with me when i said it was getting a complete over haul.
1.1 8v engines with cannons for exhausts and a mushroom ripshit induction kit aren't individual, they're just a copy&paste from 1997's max power cover cars.
With some help from my understanding friends that agreed, joined with me and the makeover become. Something else to add to the list then. a 1.6 Engine conversion and some proper mechanical setup for the car.
As we stripped the car we noticed a colour change.
Purple and white on the outside.
basic Blue on the inside:
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v73/81/114/503085200/n503085200_270712_2565.jpg
Looks like whoever bodge the respray did it on the super cheap. The door seals werent even removed

Even on a mobile phone camera you can see how crap pants the boot flush was done:
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v73/81/114/503085200/n503085200_270715_3348.jpg
In order to save cash on the bodyshop (they had a lot of work to do!) we decided to remove the engine. At the time we were thinking of putting it back in for a bit.
http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779126_763.jpg
The car was becoming a multi-colour pest with yellow primer, grey primer, pink filler and the original blue beaming out from the engine bay, it was anyones guess what we were going to do with it.
In the process of this weekend, i found out that french cars mean engineered to pass Health and Safety Laws. Well, just. Really its a blessing. Means the Pug engine's only held in with 3 bolts.
http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779127_1006.jpg
Undoinging it onto a skate borad underneath, we lifted the car up and over to remove the little tyke form the bay.
Tie on and yank:
http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779129_1498.jpg
And thats all it is. The engine rolls around on the floor. Next day its on eBay and sells for £10.80
http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779130_1743.jpg
So the car spanned multiple colours and the bodyshop just said "leave it, we'll sort it out"
http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v78/81/114/503085200/n503085200_779132_2225.jpg
So off to the body shop it was:
http://photos-d.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v107/81/114/503085200/n503085200_841107_3164.jpg
After it was sat there and i made my request list for modifications, the work begun. The thing that really annoyed me most about the car when i got it was its lack of real paint. That and the minimal effort put into the respray.
First thing was the interior and door struts:
http://photos-c.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v104/81/114/503085200/n503085200_942690_2749.jpg
Modifications to the car included a bonnet extention and smoothing of locks, indicators and roof gutters.
http://photos-a.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v104/81/114/503085200/n503085200_942692_3558.jpg
Some might mistake the car for riding on hydraulics. Im not a drug dealer, the car will be using real suspension i can assure you.
http://photos-b.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sctm/v104/81/114/503085200/n503085200_942693_3923.jpg
The car was away for two weeks from start to finish of the paint job.
She returned in full glory:

http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v107/81/114/503085200/n503085200_974159_9891.jpg
Roof gutters gone:
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v107/81/114/503085200/n503085200_974161_521.jpg
And the boot was finished properly:
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v107/81/114/503085200/n503085200_974163_1087.jpg
During the time at the body shop, it was found that the car had originally been involved in a big front end shunt resulting the the front headlight never going to fit properly :(
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v107/81/114/503085200/n503085200_974163_1087.jpg
But while we oozed over the car in its new clothes, we knew that there was one thing missing from here:
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v107/81/114/503085200/n503085200_974168_2637.jpg
The new Engine :)
Next Update: From Independence to Grand Touring Injection

The car is now BMW Metalic Gunmetal Grey.

The engine going in is a GTi with polished mirrior finished rock cover and samco radiator piping.
Im just stuck on what colours to detail the engine bay. could stick with the gun metal theme but ive got a feeling that going blue or red could be a better contrast.

What do we all think?

BootBuild and Internal Wiring

Started on the bootbuild.
Looked into fiberglass but tbh everything i have seen so far just wouldn't look good in the back of the 106 due to its bodykit and general over the topness.
trying to steer away from the chavvy look, we went for the subtle approach.
heres the pics.
The room to the left is where the computer will go:

http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v149/81/114/503085200/n503085200_1724749_4587.jpg

Made sure enough room for the amp and box when in operation:

http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v149/81/114/503085200/n503085200_1724744_3392.jpg

Measured 14 times and cut once:
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v149/81/114/503085200/n503085200_1724742_2928.jpg

Wanted the build to be just as plush as the seats:

Stretched some faux leather over the padding and mdf:

Checked the sub for size and fitment:
http://photos-200.ll.facebook.com/photos-ll-sf2p/v149/81/114/503085200/n503085200_1724747_4078.jpg

Fixed the sub box to the underside and sealed in place:

the car overall is a little bit over the top.

so to tone it down, trying to go quality not quantity.

Means toned down paintwork in gunmetal:
