Dont know if its the same with other standard s2's but the brakes on mine are crap!! Had it in the garage to get the whole brake system checked, and the mechanic said that everything seems fine, but agrees with me THERE CRAP! Whats the next best brake setup that i could fit to my car??? Is it worth fitting the Gti Calipers and discs??

thats the only std upgrade i think?
or just try uprated pads/disks for the std ones you have
quick silvers are the same as the 1.1 aswell arnt they?

IIRC everything except the Gti's had 247mm diameter x 10mm solid front discs which were shite when pushed, so 106rob is correct when he says that GTi stuff is the only standard upgrade from the 106 range. The Gti setup will give you vented discs up front but they still ain't that good. If you don't mind spending a bit more money you will get far more stopping power and fade resistance from a 266mm big brake conversion. Thats what i did to mine and all the bits just bolted on save for 5 minutes with a file to remove a casting sprue. Mine now has no problems locking up my front pair of 205/40/17's if i stamp on the middle pedal! Just search for big brake upgrade or conversion or similar on the forum, theres loads of threads.

Depends where you get the bits from. If you buy all new bits from Pug you are looking at bout £300~£400. If you get the calipers and carriers 2nd hand and just buy new pads and discs It could prob be done for £100~£150 ish.

A big brake conversion would be ideal, but i've got other parts to pay out for first. Fitting 106 Gti calipers and discs for now has got to give me some improvement. My current brakes cant get much worse. My mates selling a 106 Gti brake setup so i can get it all straight away. I've got a set of brand new ATE grooved and vented power disks, size 247x20. What calipers would i need to fit these?
