Well, seeing as you cant put nice white leccy speedo dials from mk2 VTR/VTS or late 106 gtis into a '98 GTi, i did the next best thing......for now

Lockwood Dials (off ebay for £6!) and hammerite red the needles. NICE!
Looks the part now i love em.
However upon installation i did notice that the 4 plugs on the back of my clock were all there but there was no speedo cable!
Ive always assumed that as the other white mk2 VTR/VTS/GTi dials were "electronically driven" that my 98 GTi would have a cable?
But alas it does not......
So what is infact stopping us from putting the later white dials in older cars?

Well I'm interested! :p Didn't see it yesterday as I wasn't on here much, but I'm looking to do the same :)
That's an absolute bargain and looks really tidy. Was it simple to fit?

Nice attitude!
The reason you cant swap over is the wiring - there is only 2 plugs on the back of digital dials, and as you've seen 4 on the back of analog
Also as the name might suggest analog and digital the sensor signals are different

i dont have an attitude...
its just i dont see this place as particularly friendly, near every time i post, its like i am ignored?
and yes i know there is 2 and 4 plugs etc, but didnt know sensors could be analog or digital? cant see how its different if they are an electronic signal coming into the clocks?

yeah dead easy really :) just the few screws to get em out and the dials fit really easily without having to remove any needles......

Cool, well I'll have to see if I can get some bargain ones like yours then - my blue ones dont fit in with my red interior :p
its a pretty slow forum and a slightly dull topic which is prob why no one replied before you got shitty!
and if you want the next best thing to new style white clocks, or even the better thing try a bit of this
