sounds to me as its a CV joint mate not sure on price thought
Also does it do the noise while driving it when you turn corners?
Or when you stand still and turn the steering

it does it when dry steering/driving slow and if i go round sharp bends a tad quick. sounds like something snapping everytime, or a bit of wood hitting the car
makes me cringe everytime!!!!

That could be a bottom ball joint m8

I would say its the CV joint. any oil/grease near the front wheel?
check PAS fluid, check the tyres and wheels
to quote Fred: Jack up one wheel, start the engine and put it into first and operate the steering to see if you can see whats going on from the front.
Sounds like a ball joint.

im def no mechanic so..........
im assuming cv joint and bottom ball joint are different things??
or are they just 2 different names for same thing
also anyone know if it will cost alot to fix or not?

two diffent things m8
And hard to say prices as all garages charge diffrently
Ball joint is on the end of the wishbone (connecting the suspesion strut to the bottom of the car)
The CV joint is on the end of the drive shaft out of the gearbox.
im having the same problem guys. puls my tracking is off. this is all gay lol

is it a springy sound? like a spring moving about? my mecphearson bearing has colapsed (top mount) and makes a springy noise on full lock
no. mines sounds like a hinge that's too tight being forced open then clunking when it finally does. if that makes sense.
it is quite loud

did anyone find a solution to this? my car has started to do the same thing. when coming off a curb only on the passenger side) or when turning when still or moving very slowly, parking, etc, i get a loud clunk as described above. does it mostly when going into full lock and back out of it again, but if im in full lock, turn out of it slightly and then back into full again, it will clunk at every change of direction the steering takes, if you get what i mean.
you can feel the vibration through the steering aswell. the car passed MOT fine butthe mechanic did notice it but failed to find any problems.
also, my PAS feels heavy and fighting against my turning. when ever i turn it feels the steering wheel is trying to go back in the other direction, makes things difficult! tyre pressure is normal at 32psi (standard GTI 14" alloys) however driving in a straight line its fine, i can let go of the wheel and it goes straight.
Jack up one wheel, start the engine and put it into first and operate the steering to see if you can see whats going on from the front.
Won't that stall and just kill the guy?
Mine clunks and does that steering thing , but im 90% sure its the wishbone bushes that are fucked, changed everything else that clunks or bangs to get rid of it and this is the last on the list!

nope powers delivivered to the wheel with the least force acting upon it so the wheel on the ground won't move
not something you want to do for long though as you'l starve some bearings of oil
