View Full Version : Project QuickerSilver PART 2
Im fairly new to the site, so thought id get myself introduced, and show the progrees of my car.
I purchased a quicksilver, she needed some work so into the garage she went.
Painted my drums an calipers to smarten them up abit, and put some apec racing pads and disks on to try and make the most of the quickys shitty brakes.(images are all too big, could someone pm to tel me how 2 resize them to get them to fit, lol)
An luck got worse, the first night I got the car on the road, sum greek imigrant crashed into me an caused over 1k of damage, so the car was off the road for another week to have the bodywork sorted out.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT1833.jpg
Put a tacky sunstrip on, some lexarse lights(whick were removed soon after)
Then got my standard wheels painted black, and bought a peco back box off ebay to get me started.
I saved and saved and bought some lenso rs5 alloys, 16 inch in gloss black and i love them, followed by some window tints and a clifford concept 650 alarm.

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/DSC02146.jpg
I then had a fight with a bush in the ice and lost, so the bumper came off and the mounts were strengthened, a new foglight lense was aslo bought.
I then tried to purchase another quicky (dans off this very forum lol) had a buyer lined up for mine and he pulled out so was unable to buy my car, so I had to bite the bullet and keep mine.
At this time every seal decided to go, so they were all replaced, you name it I bought a new one lol, afetr coughing up for all the maintainace I finally saved some more money up again.
The car is currently at top gear performance in doncaster, having a 50mm drop and a full decat exhaust fitted with a twin centre exit blended into the bumper.
Theres so much more i want to do before fcs07, so hopefully everything will know be plain sailing.
P.S. could someone please give me a hand in posting pics, pm with details, cheers (the files r 2 large)
Just go the car back after having a 50mm drop all round, and a full decat exhaust with twin ouwardly rolled tailpipe, centre exit cut into bumper

got pulled 3 times in 4 days, so saving them for shows now,
the wipers where a present when i passed my test so keeping them on to show im greatful, lol
Give the car a good clean this weekend, just a couple of pics.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/mineinstevesastra.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/myquicky.jpg
And then disaster yet again, woke up this morning to find my back window has been smashed, and a few nice dints added to the car perfect, but this is yet another delay, but going for my gti brake setup at the weekend, woohoo, atleast theres one positive, lol
Got the back window sorted, woohoo, and as for the tints, Iv found out who did the deamage, and its some local pricks, just vandals really, they were just smashin the window etc for the sake of it, which is nice.
Iv got a gti spoiler, just needs spraying, some dtm cup mirrors, and gti front brake setup awaiting, coming soooooooooooooooooooooooon............
A quick update, the car now has 94k on the clock, ouch, lol.
So the front driveshafts are going so replaced them, and also the front 2 wheel bearings have been replaced as they were nakered.
The power steering was also malfunctioning so that has been renewed also.
All the above at quite a cost, but after much thinking this has triggered a new twist to the project.
After the bodywork has been completed, a gti unit is going in, as the brake setup is allready being upgraded to gti spec.
Stay tuned for the progress....................................
cheers phill, not going to touch the engine till pug 1 off have finished with it :D
And wanting some smoked m3 rear lights for it, thats the next little bit to be done.
my engine bay is a joke, and didnt u know sarcasm is the lowest form of wit :p
Rusty, and grotty so no pictures will ever be on this site till a gti unit is in there :D
it nearly made phill sick when he looked at it, and dan and nick just recoiled in horror, so no, an boohoo too you 2 mikey :p
UPDATE
DISASTER HAS STRUCK ONCE AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After everything seemed to be going ok, on my way to work yesterday morning, I stop at traffic lights, and bang.
I turnes to see a toyaota rammed up my casr ass.
So insurnace claim on whiplash(lol), and get the arse end repaired.
This has not helped one bit, as I was wanting to sell the car to get my GTI.
BOO FUKIN HOO
Its just shite really, lol.
But all will be fine one day.
I want a GTI, there was a lad called Adam off here coming to look at the car Sunday but carnt now, so fubared there.
I want a GTI, theres just so much choice, I want a Moonstone Blu one (the one everyone said was overpriced, I want that 1) or a black onem or red, or yellow. aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Just such a pain
There has been a development in this ever evolving saga, lol.
After much deliberation, getting a GTI at the minute would be insane, as the insurnace would be nearly 2k so I dont wnt to rob myself again.
So going to keep mine, mod it, and keep a GTI in the back of my mind.
So got my gti calipers sandblasted at the weekend, and going to paint them all up (pics to follow), but needs some discs and pads, any suggestions what brand and where from?
Then the accident damage is being repaired in the nest week or so.
Then my mate has had his gti sprayed, peralescent with metal flake etc (it will be on the donny cruise stand at fcs for you all to see because its mint).
The guy from the bodyshop said to me, il smoothe your car(bonnet and boot), repair the dings in the wings and bonnet, spray and fit your spoiler and respray the entire car in a colour of your choicefor £850!!!!!!!!!!!
So now the fun begins, any ideas on colour, I want to be different so I was thinkin something along the lines of these.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/jamiesastra.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/green.jpg
Im toying with the idea of fusion green, or candy apple green, then with a gloss black roof, and my current wheels.
Thoughts please!!!!!!!
Iv seen 106's in that colour and other cars, I havent seen many crazy green ones, lol.
Just like to be different
Hmm, could be onto a winner there James, carnt quite put my finger on the colour though
PART 1
As most of you will know from the absense of my car at FCS, I need a new engine.
Making a phonecall tonight to hopefully get this part of the saga sorted, and then progress can continue.
Went mad over the last week and started buying bits
French Plates
Mr style rear lights (Dan C you robbing git)
Green filter for raceland
Raceland induction kit
Samco hose for the raceland
And a host of other bits at the minute im not disclosinas its a suprise. Will post pics up of the car as it looks at the minute, which is shameful, and when this engines in, off she trots to the bodyshop, hopefully to be looking something like for Shakespeare.
Finished, god dont think that will ever happen, as something always goes wrong.
But hopefully, overcome the engine problem and get going again.
Iv had a mad buying spree over the last week, will post pics up of some of my purchases when I get chance, also seem to be getting somewhere with this whole engine thing nw, so we shall hopefully have some progress over the next fortnight.
Well iv just started to go mad, buyin bits etc,
all will be revealed, in part 2 when iv uploaded the pics and picked the van full of bits up ;)
Oh yes I have cash and im spending it, will get the pics of how the car is looking tonight
On what exactly mate, as Iv bought/buying quite abit, and im stil not finished, lol
PART 2
Right then, finally had time to sit down and go through the progress.
Got bored the other week so decided to have a bash at debarring my bumper.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2263.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2262.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2266.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2268.jpg
Was very pleased with the initial look, and I then scrapped that idea, and im going to use that bumper as one 2 practice on now.
I then spoke to James the club chairman, and he said he was breaking his car, so off I trotted 3 hours drive to Wales and bought, well a fair bit.
Colour Coded Mirrors
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2272.jpg
Debarred and colour coded bumper

4 2 1 manifold
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2274.jpg
Door bins, a pillars, samco hoses
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2275.jpg
And then the plates and filter I bough frm Fcs, and solenoids for the boot from james
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2273.jpg
Then put the new bumper on, and im loving the look already.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2277.jpg
Then painted my gti calipers up, and going to get the pads and disks soon .
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2259.jpg
The stripped the back arches out, rubbed them down, and tidies them up with some hammerite.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2256.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2255.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2254.jpg
So at the moment the car is on axle stands on the drive.
The engine is fingers crossed to be done this week, with a few suprises in there to.
Im going to get the bodywork straightened out, and some smoothing done, and then decide whether to change the colour or not.
Mate is selling his konig bucket seats, so looking at those too and too get the ice side of things sorted.
Then my lensos are having a big change, as want them to look different, so while they are being customised iv got some gloss black cyclones to go on.
Hopefully have some further progress to report in the next week.
I certainlt dont matey.
The second this engine is in, things will pick up at a frightening pace, then you can tamper with my torsion bar ;).
The back rub strips ate being colourcoded and the vertical seems done too, for free, god i love accidents when u have a mate with a bodyshop, hahaha.
colour of the car is causing some problems, but im sure we shall sort that out soon enough.
If you can get the rub strips off mate be my guest, as they didnt want to move when i tried.
And the doors, oh ye course, my brain isnt functioning today, il pop over and take alook at them, although if i do buy them, u can help me fit them, that includes the glass too.
I think colour wise I shall be going down the aster grey kind of route, not 100% sure though.
Having all bank holiday weekend on the car.
So will have more progress by Monday.
Ste that aint a bad idea at all, hmmmmmmmmmm.
Pics of new purchases to be put up later ;)
Right then, massive progress has been made.
To start with I bought my GTI brake discs and pads, and my rallye inserts.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2313.jpg
I then found an engine on ebay, so out came the quicky engine.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2278.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2288.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2286.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2298.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2294.jpg
Then took the head off to get the engine out.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2304.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2306.jpg
Took the engine out with a trolley jack, then dragged it inot the garage on a towel.
Nice.
Then stripped the strut tops down, rust treated them, and painted them silver, not the best job but much better than before.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2311.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2310.jpg
The went to kings lyn to pick the new engine up.

- piper 270 cam and piper vernier pulley
- GMC head, port and polished, skimmed and gas flown
- GMC 4-1 manifold
- Uprated larger injectors, believe they are 407cc

Piper vernier pulley and cam
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2316.jpg
GMC head, ported inlet, a scary amount.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2317.jpg
Then put the block in on new engine mounts, with 3 people (me, phil(fuzzy) and birk(crazy kid with the black 6) and a trolley jack, that was a giggle to say the least.
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2318.jpg
http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2319.jpg

http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s121/joe_pug106/PICT2321.jpg
Current state is, engine is in, and half plumbed in, have 1 new engine mount to put in (others are allready done), need vtr driveshafts and radiator to be fitted.
Coilpack to be fitted, then wiring to begin, which will certainly be interesting.
Wanting it back on the road 4 national day.
Wait till you see the black cyclones Nick, oh and my Fuzzy Motorsport decal of course.
you shall be more than welcome to go for a thrash in it mate.
And also the possibility of an omex is also on the cards ;)
Mate if you carnt wait imagine how excited i am. :D
Got myself a wishbone brace off a vts also, for free which was nice.
Oh and had a couple of new purchases at Trax.
- Ecosse quickshift
- Etec Strutbrace
Working on the car tonight more, hopefully get driveshafts on, brakes radiator etc, then the wiring begins.
Perfect mate, may have to have your tbs off you ;).
And amazingly Birk is quite handy with a spanner.
Next week mate, lol.
Had Sunday on the car with Phill, Mark(leeds 106) and Aidy(aidy rallye) and well good things that happened.
- Radiator is on and plumbed in
- Exhaust is now back on
And thats about it.
Tried to hook the quicky loom up to it all, and nothing, so waiting for another vtr loom, but fingers crossed thats all it needs.
If not its off to g and g motorsport and they can sort it ;)
Small but significant update.
Was hoping for the car to be ready for Nationals..........but it aint unfortunately.
Wiring is a bitch.
Got the quicky loom butchered now, the plug is all cut off and each wire labelled up, just have to chop the saxo plug off now, and wire the quicky plug to the saxo loom, and change the coil pack connector, then connect it all up.
Oh yeah and also bought an E-Tech strut brace and ecosse quickshift at Trax.
Pics to follow.
Right Update.
Monday nigth Mark and Damo cam round and started on the wiring madness, and the engine actually cranked over, hooray.
Bu the fuel pump didnt prime, so relay is knackered, so role on Sunday get the car running.
The smoothed boot and MR lights are now on, got my gloss black cyclones, they just need some rubber.
So Sunday jobs to do.
- Get engine running, complete wiring
- Bleed Radiator and brakes
- Fasten up intermediate bearing and bolt mani to zorst
- Fit delocked and colour coded handled doors
- New bonnet and bumper
- Wheels on and new H&R spacers
- Etec strutbrace on, clean
Then voila off 4 a sprint and then to a cruise for the 1st time in around 6 months, get in.
Pics will be up on Sunday.
Yet another change of plan.
All shall be revealed when its back at my house ;)

I think a Rallye with a high milage or shot engine is the way to go and then replace the engine with your 16v...i personally would go for a S2 over the S1...its makes sense since you already have the GTI engine
Also will this affect your insurance? As your quotes may rise alot if your claiming?
Not claiming Tom.
I crashed so im not putting other peoples premiums up because of me being a dick.
And the claim will fook my insurance.
So not claiming.
S2 over S1 for me 2.
And with the shell, want a full car, then will fit my billies willwoods etc etc.
