Help!
I am trying to take the front two wheels off my Gti so that I can get the tyres changed.
Problem I am having is that after removing the wheelbolts the wheels are stuck firmly in place. Giving them a bash with the palm of my hands normally does the trick but don't want to use anything more "persuasive" in case it damages the wheel.
Any hint or tips on how to get them off?

use a long bar that u can attach to the wheel brace to give you more leverage, thats what i did with mine when garage did them too tight with air gun?

The wheel nuts are fine. I can remove all four of them from each wheel.
It's when the bolts are out that the wheel is firmly stuck to hub.
usually a light tap on the outer edges is enough to get the wheel free from the hub but, it's just not wanting to play ball :(

He's already got the wheel bolts off by the sound of
I'm sure it would come off if you just try to rock it side to side a bit? Sounds very odd

Try tapping from the back. top then bottom, top then bottom.
Maybe use a soft faced (rubber) mallet.

it is.
it's like the surface rust on the hub of the disc has "grabbed" the wheel and bonded it together.
I was thinking as a plan B, a length of wood and a rubber mallet on the back of the wheel, then rotate the wheel round and repeat?
I don't want to get too phyiscal with it for risk of damge to the rim.

I doubt that you will damage the back of the rim with a rubber mallet, as long as you get ready to catch it when it does come off.

Sounds like a plan :D
I'll give it a couple of lashings of wd40 to help penetrate it and then have a go tommorow.
Thanks for all the help, I'll let you know how i get on. :)

Nothing like a good tug in my opinion. :)

1.Take all wheel bolts out,
2. stand up,
3. apply one size 9 work boot heel to top edge of tire,
4. rotate wheel,
5. be ready to catch the wheel when it moves,
6. repeat steps 2 thru 5 as required.
:D Worked 4 me when my steelies were solidly rusted on. Took a hell of a pounding 2 get em off.

Once wheels are free get some hub wheel seperator film things from demon tweeks or similar. its a thin peice of plastic film/discy thing that stops your shiney wheels from bonding to the hub!! very cheap too.

Yup about right, spin and tyre kick works.
after you get it off, clean and copper slip the face so it wont happen again.
