Ok here goes, the story of my quiky.
Copying my thread of fsc and adding a few bits but il put the dates next to each bit :)
.......
May 30th 2006
Changed my car just over a month ago, and brought a quiksilver
Was nice clean and standard when i found her, which is rare because loooaaaddds are modded lol.
Im going for the cleaned/euro look.
My old one is currently up for sale at the mo, but heres how it used to be ;D

Heres how the story goes so far. .
The day i picked her up..

Only main problem with her was the brakes, they were shocking (even as they are as standard anyway lol) So first thing up was to change the brakes!

http://images18.fotki.com/v347/free/d9188/9/985234/3970549/6-vi.jpg?1156952251
Thought it was pretty kool that the standards are brembo 8)
.. Next up it was time to strip the rear and put my buckets in, only i came across a major french malfunction when i was taking the front seats out! :o
http://images15.fotki.com/v344/free/d9188/9/985234/3970549/18-vi.jpg?1156953936
..Yep..deffinatly a cracked bracket on the drivers side :-\
So off i went to get it welded back up..

..all done
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ/StrippedOut.jpg
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ/StrippedOut2.jpg
Then came the alloys
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ/Now.jpg
My coilovers arrived the next day! (thursday, 4 days before fcs!)
http://images18.fotki.com/v342/free/d9188/9/985234/3970549/33-vi.jpg?1156981620
And then lowered the friday just in time for french car show ;D
Drove 2 hours to pug performance, got the back down 70mm and then came to the front...only to find out the top cups were missing from the coilover kit! So i ring up the bloke and he says he forgot to pack them in with the stuff... yeah thanks lol. So iv had to go on 60mm springs to tie me over till i recieve the top cups!

Oh right.
What's changed with the suspension since last year mate?
Dargs
14-02-2007, 12:55 AM
well first time round it was on 60mm springs and 2 notches at the back and sat like this
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ/MineNjonnys.jpg
then coilovers were fitted and it had to be taken up a notch at the back, and sat like this
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ/Coilovers6.jpg
Now its worn in its sits how you saw it at the mids meet
but with the new springs it should be the same as the top pic but the back should be level with the front ;)

Yes keeping the coilovers now gazz :)
Heres a small update, well not really and update, more of a step back lol
whats the saying? 1 step forward, 2 steps back??
Anyways.. tax ran out end of last month so payed that off and mot runs out today so sent it in yesterday for its test and a small service.
Only problem i have is both sets of my alloys have a dead tyre on each set, the next problem i couldnt get a tyre in time for my brocks so decided to whack the gtis on and stick the spare wheel on (thought it might pass but didnt cus the tyre size is slightly diffrent)
Unfortunatly it failed i cant get a new tyre for my brocks for a week as toyo have a shortage apparently:rolleyes: so im having to get a new tyre on the dead gti today
It also failed on a split cv boot on the drivers side and knackered drum shoes on the rear passenger side, which have now been fixed so just the tyre to go!
Heres a couple of pics to go with the update anyways, havent taken any yet with the gtis on since the bodywork/suspension have been done,

First of a few winter updates :)
Back seats now live back in the car..Why? So i can redo the boot install :)
Did win some GTi leather rears on E-Bay which i was supposed to pick up yesterday, however the lad got in conatct and said that someone had been welding and grinding in his garage and that the sparks had got onto the alcantara and fooked them so that went straight out the window :(
Not really liking having the rear seats back in after them being out a year n half, really does feel strange and the car doesnt seem to pull aswell anymore.. But as they say you cant have the best of both worlds unless you spend mega bucks
GTi wheels are back on and rockin for the winter.
Tyres are totally duff on the Brocks now so looking into a few subtle possible changes for next year, just need to see if ive got the balls to shell out more money lol ;)
Will get a few pics up soon of the interior... you all know what the wheels look like :)

Well thought i would wrap this up for 2007 :)
Not alot to update really, started my new job in october and its been xmas etc so been concentrating on them.
This is what i have done though..
Put the back seats back in
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ/281020072421.jpg
And made a small start to new boot install

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/Dargs/Quiky%20BQ/281020072423.jpg
Been brainstorming ideas the last couple of days and have a few little things in mind.
Havent found any wheels yet although i am awaiting a reply of 1 company.
And GTi rear seats, ive had 3 possible sets now but all deals fell through  , still keeping my eye open for a set but i have another plan now which could involve Plush-Automotive :)
Cheers for your support in 2007 anyway, and i shall look forward to updating next year :D

Yes mate, it was a ballache taking it in and out all the time.
I want the sub in permantly but would have just got nicked being on show all the time, and tints wernt an option either.
New install will look even more classier though if plans go right so keep your eyes posted ;)

Just to give a small update,
-both original rear door cards are now back in the car,
-replaced the fubared n/s bumpstrip
and on the install side of things,
-got the sub box built last night
-amp housing is 3/4 done
which just leaves a surround, the top panel and side pannels to be made. Pics will be up when its all finished!

Yep that will be trimmed in alcantara ;) and as for more lowering, aye the back could come down easily but theres not alot more i can do with the front to be honest mate,14s with 45 profile tyres and a dish look tiny lol hence why it looks high-ish all il say is it looks better in flesh.. trust me lol

Nope the front comps are running of a 4 channel helix amp, the sub is running soley off the audison 2.9lrx which is set to mono mode. The sub is 750wrms and is munching off 900wrms from the audison :)

Looking forward to seeing the changes, and you!, at FCS buddy
Looks good mate.
Can you do the same again and do a little step by step of how you go about sorting the paint flaking on the bumper?
Mine's quite similar but i'm not sure what to do :(
Bloody jet wash :p
And you muppet! Occupational hazard of curb crawling though i suppose ;)

Cheers guys! Quite happy with the result to be honest, just hoping nothing seeps under and starts to knacker the lip up, that was my main concern
Was just a general everyday road incident really, 2 way road with cars all parked down 1 side, corner at the end, just before i was about to go round the corner another car was coming, so i had to pull out of the way, the curbs were flat luckily as theres house drives off the road, but i caught the edge of a sloping 1 unfortunatly!
Looks good mate.

I can do, but i work at a bodyshop so the steps wont be d.i.y friendly really. Needs all the paint taking off with a DA, primering, flatting then painting. Will be all done with hardwaring materials and a proper gun though, so not like the rattle can jobs..

Cheers Toby!
As said Marshall im doing it work so its not a diy job.
In short the bodyshop way of doing it is
-DA the bumper using 320
-Mask it up
-Primer
-Flat the primer down
-Mask it up again
-Paint
-De-nib and mop
Anyways, the bumper is done now, just need to refit it tomorrow :D
Prepped and masked for primer

Pretty much, just have to make sure if you go back to the plastic you use plastic primer before normal prime. I would never use rattle cans for a whole bumper though the finish will crap. can only get away with it on small bits like bumpstrips etcetc
Cheers Daz! Admittidly i didnt spray it, not that good yet :p But the finish is down to the prep which i did :D

Think seats and subframes came to about £500, they are nice seats and not a bad price imo.

woohooooooo lol, forgot to say there going back to silver aswell ready to sell the car march/april next year.
chiddy no you dont mate, only really need to key the top layer up, obviosuly need to sand back chips, curbing and any othermarks.
Im using 400 grit wet to take them down first till there all matt and theres no shiny bits and to flat the chips out, then 600 wet and then 800 wet for a nice finish, then just stick your new paint over the top once there all clean etc
chiddy0407
03-11-2008, 11:05 PM
even though you only really flatten the colour, you'll still need to primer yea?
good work btw
Dargs
03-11-2008, 11:17 PM
Nope wont need primer mate, the paint will stick fine to the flatted colour. The primers just to give the paint something to stick to in the first place, but as uve already got a primer and colour layer stuck nicely they'll be fine. Could etch primer any bare metal bits but to be honest if there not massive patches then ul get away with paint over the top, just try not to go back to bare metal if you dont need to.
and cheers :p
