My GTi alloys arrived today, with 12 bolts, as the last owner had some locking wheel nuts. I was wondering if my bolts from me steelies will fit my alloys untill i get round to buying some locking nuts? thanks
I dont think so mate, pretty sure there abit shorter.

Ahh bastard. Ive been looking on ebay for some locking ones, genuine pug gti ones are like £35. If i take a trip to halfords will i get a set to fit there?
Yes mate, i seen them in halfrauds the other day.
They aint that bad priced, you only need 4!

The gti bolts should have a flat base - whereas the steel wheel bolts will have a tapered face
What you doing with your old steelies mate - if you want rid I'll give you some cash and use them while my vts wheels get refurbed (or maybe I could rent em off you for a week?) :D
Fuzzy mate, ive got some steelies you can have off me!
Good tred on them all.
I'll let you have them for free if you collect buddy?

You're a star mate
I need to sell my rallye steelies but then I won't have any spare wheels to drive round on when I get my VTS wheels refurbished
Why not bring em up when I do your service? :D
Im thinking you collect them and do the service while your here. :P

Fitted my alloys yesterday and went out for a ride and some photos. When i got up to 60ish the steering wheel started shaking and it was pulling slightly to one side. So, this morning took it to Motorsave an asked them to balance them, and they couldnt. They said 'coz they are peugeot they are different or something, and i need to take them to pug to do?! Is this true? I went to Kwik Fit first and they didnt mention it, just couldnt do it coz the machine is bust?! so... i dunno!
Fuzzy Orange
14-01-2007, 05:02 PM
LOL you're really not gonna like this mate
But the pug wheels dont have centre caps - so they wont fit on normal balancing machines
You have to go to somewhere that has a machine where you can bolt the wheel to it :)
Dan C
14-01-2007, 05:15 PM
Yeah i no, Quikfit have that machine, but are waiting for a spare part for it coz its broken.
Dan C
16-01-2007, 09:27 PM
Turned out everywhere in gainsborough, and scunny had "broken" machines, ended up in Grimsby! But finally got them done!
Fuzzy Orange
16-01-2007, 09:57 PM
Do you mind if I ask where mate?
Need to get the vts wheels done when I've had them refurbed
Dan C
16-01-2007, 11:22 PM
Well, i went to Kwik-fit in Scunny and they couldnt do it, and said go round the corner to Bush's? So i went there, they couldnt do it, but said if you go to our Grimsby branch they can do it, so off we went to Grimsby. He said its basically on the first roundabout, but we couldnt find it, so we went straight up at the roundabout an found a kwik fit opposite Tesco's, an went in there and they did it whilst we waited, £5.25 a wheel!
Apparently, the style of wheel without centre caps is old now, so when the machines break, they dont bother spending £300 for the new bit because hardly any people will have alloys like that anymore!

Argh!!!! 14's shouldnt rub on full lock should they lol!
Coz mine are! Work that one out ??? !!
James.G

how low is your car?
i bet its rudding on the front drivers arch?
if so its because it rubs on the washer bottle behind the linings.
Dan C
17-01-2007, 05:07 PM
Yup its the drivers side lol
Its lowered at the back, but I havent lowered it, so if it is lowered at the front then the previous owner has done it. Heres a pic, think its been lowered?

James.G
17-01-2007, 05:13 PM
naa doesnt look lowered, needs to be tho! lol.
just put it on full lock to the left, and have a look, i expect the nearside corner of the wheel will be against the front of the lining.
its because the water bottle pushes the lining out more than on the passenger side.
Dan C
17-01-2007, 05:23 PM
yeah i no it needs to be, sits up at the front when its on flat ground lol How low u think?
wont do much harm if i leave the arches in now will it? ill just not put it on full lock often lol
Fuzzy Orange
17-01-2007, 05:29 PM
Post a picture on flat land not a field
The back looks lowered to hell!
James.G
17-01-2007, 05:30 PM
well you need to see if thats defo where its rubbing first tho.
and if you leave it there... it will rub a hole through the water bottle.. lol.
but neither fuzz or i have water bottles in lol. im currently trying to find a way round this problem so will let you know if i come up with anything.
As for how low. i think around 40-50mm would look good. :)
Dan C
17-01-2007, 05:51 PM
Ill get a better pic tomorrow, havent got many.
Dan C
18-01-2007, 09:10 PM
Thats flat ground, see what i mean about the front lol
http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/7324/dsc00407yv7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
That looks about 60mm at the rear and 40mm springs if that on the front.

James.G
18-01-2007, 11:42 PM
yeah the backs down a good 60-70. and doesnt really look like the front has been done...
buy some springs of lacey mate...
Dargs
18-01-2007, 11:54 PM
id say back is 45, sits pretty much the same as mine. 50/60mm springs on the front would level it out nicley
Dan C
19-01-2007, 11:37 AM
I dont think the front has been touched.
Has anyone got pictures of a 60mm drop at the front? Whats yours at the front Dargs?
Mine last one was 60 at the front.
(look at my sig)
James.G
19-01-2007, 06:29 PM
what springs/shocks did you use dan?
Eibach springs.
Can't beat eibach.

Mines 60 and not that low I dont think.
Dargs
19-01-2007, 06:36 PM
maybe 70 / 60 then :P
James.G
19-01-2007, 07:58 PM
Dan you had 16s on your old quicky mind didnt you, i think thats why it fills the arches more....
iv got eibach on mine, just looks alittle higher.. must be because im on 15s tho...
Dan C
19-01-2007, 10:14 PM
i think mine would need to be 60 get it all leveled out. Just a case of new springs, or do you need anything else that low?
James.G
19-01-2007, 10:32 PM
as said on another thread. going 60 is fine.. just you need to know that a few months down the line your inserts will bleed due to the extra pressure on them.
would defo advise new shocks a few months down the line if not stright away ;)
Dan C
19-01-2007, 11:00 PM
Would you need to do that for 45mm? Coz at the moment i cant really afford new springs and shocks.
James.G
19-01-2007, 11:06 PM
well im on 50mm springs. been on them since september. it depends on how bumpy the roads are, but it should last like 9 months before they start going. so you have plenty off time to save for shocks.
Dan C

:)
Bit of thinking to do!
