Right whenever i drive my car between 1750-2250rpm in all gears the whole car vibrates/shakes outside of this rev range it isnt so bad but still has a hint of it there.
Now the lad that had the car before me had the same problem so he had the engine mounts changed but still the problem persists :(
These seem to be the only cause of it my friends and i can think of and they're mechanics lol:p
So would changing them to the Group N engine mounts solve this? as i've been reading up on them and it says they dont pass any vibrations through to the car, if correct where can i get a set from for a GTi as i can only find sets for rallyes, and i'm guessing not all of the mounts, if any, are going to be the same between an 8v and 16v
Thanks

I had this problem on my car, maybe not the same problem but it was caused by my scorpion twin backbox, replaced it with standard box, problem went away :D It was vibrating/resonating against some metal panels under the car, maybe a new middle box correctly made to fit might sort it.

They pass plenty of vibrations through the car.
16v have a different mount under the ECU, the rest are the same.
And it does sound like your engine mounts are the problem.

Yea 1 of my m8s said it might be the exhaust, hopefully so as tht shudnt b 2 hard to fix, guna change it when i can anyways lol
Guna double check the engine mounts when i can too, as my m8 only had some of them done i believe n not all of them so it could still b 1 of those
What was the outcome of this? I had it last night and this morning, only happens when in gear and foot on accelerator.. It's quite a faint feeling but f*ing annoying when you're sticking to a speed, feels like it's wanting you to put your foot down..
Mine happens at about 2500rpm though

a friend has this on his gti
turned out the top engine mount was well shot and the exhaust was strapped up right to the heat shield. both sorted at the same time and its quiet and silky smooth now. probably a bit of both on his part but id check them first
well it's a standard exhaust so will check that..
I know **** all about engine mounts, bring on the haynes

yup good ole haynes manuals have their uses!
I've been thinking...
I have had the car for 2 or 3 weeks now, and the prev owner supposedly never let it run below quarter of a tank (which I found out last night).. On Monday night, I did 20 miles after the petrol light came on... So could it be a case of it's picked up some shite fuel along with crap at the bottom of the tank and needs some redx or something put through the system to give it a clean? It's still juddering a little at about 2.5k revs.

it dont hurt to stick some redex through it. the stuff does a reasonable job of dissolving shit in your fuel tank,
pays to run the tank reasonably dry and fill it right up then run it down instead of always leaving shit in the bottom. however your fuel filter should stop that getting through?
when was that last changed?

there wil be a difference between a misfire shudder and a engine mount vibration mate, an engine mount will cause the whole car to vibrate like metal on metal, but a misfire wil be like a jolt, as if you put ur foot on and off the gas pedal quickly
I have no idea mate, as I said, only had the car 2 weeks!
Easy job to swap? I've noticed the fuel is quite shit
would really appreciate if anyone has an input here..
I've checked the exhaust and it looks ok, tried redX but problem persists and feels like it's getting worse to be honest..
If you can imagine how the car jolts a little when you'r purely riding on the speed of the clutch (1kish revs), is how the car is feeling at about 2.3k - 2.7k revs. This happens in all gears but is fine below 2.3k and above 2.7k..
I don't know shit about engine mounts and it's only a problem on the road at higher revs so impossible to stick head in engine bay to look..
It could be misfiring but the engine sounds fine.
thanks
